Hes the stray we brought in lol
I still think it's just easier to have a cat that's comfortable with going in the backyard and scratching on a tree. My cats are all outdoor cats that came in at night
I've taught each of my cats to accept getting their nails trimmed through bribery. First I hold them in my lap and pet their paws, then I play with and knead their paws. Once they accept this as normal I cut one nail at a time giving treats for each time the let me cut and are calm. Eventually they get used to it and stop needing treats. They eventually consider it quality time and come over for trims. It takes a couple months. I have three cats. One that I adopted as an adult from the shelter, one that I got as a kitten, and an ex stray that lived under my deck.
My cat would totally do this. My cat broke her jaw at the vet coz she resisted the plastic bubble being put on her head, and she drew blood from 4 staff members that day, all the while having a serious back injury that she was in for... They said they can't help a cat who won't cooperate, who is totally feral. They suggested i have her put to sleep instead. My cat is not feral, she is a sweethear with trust issues and very selective in who she trusts. You need to build a relationship with her. I asked the vet to try again, but this time to allow me to be present and let me hold her trough the process. In my arms she was a sweetheart, calm and cooperative and no cones or other safety contraptions needed. Now my cat has a special note in her file at the vet clinic, that my cat is only cooperative in my arms and to make an exception in their policies to allow the owner be present in certain procedures where they usually do not allow the pet parent to be present.
@@Aaron-ob9lo she is not feral. She just has a very narrow group of people she trusts. She is fine with me, my husband, my kido and even my kidos friends who come over. They all can take her and pet her and she is totally fine with that. But at the vets it is totally a different story. And when she is afraid of something, like loud noises, she always seeks me. She doesn't hide under the furniture, she hides in my arm pit. Lol. A feral cat would not do that. A feral cat would avoid all human contact and hide under the furniture. We have a colony of feral cats outside our apartment building. They won't approach humans even if they are offered food. They will check the food only when all the humans are gone.
@@sarah-ve7hu she did recover surprisingly well. She surpassed all expectations coz her prognosis was very grim. It took a bit of work and physiotherapy, but now she is a fully functioning cat that can run and jump and all four legs function well. But the physiotherapist did warn us that her injury could cause her some trouble when she will become an elderly lady. But for now, enjoying life to the fullest.
Here’s a tip for trimming your cats claws (that I use with my cat) : 1 : wait for them to be lazy and lay down 2 : distract them with a toy while they are laying down 3 : don’t let them attack the toy (or give it to them every few minutes) 4: trim their claws while they are laying down and watching the toy hope this helps :D
I do the first suggestion. She's next to me dozing off and I gently lift her paw and trim as much as I can. Can't always get all the claws at one time, but little my little, she gets her manicure.
Or get a happy hoodie and someone to pet them. Make sure you are fast and know what you are looking for. 3 cats done in 15 minutes or less. Should time myself when i just do their nails.
I'm amazed that you managed to get them to go for it a second time to be honest, though it would be a good way to trim their claws, using you as a scratching post

It does work sometimes if the cat is older but the training does take longer
Exactly, give em the good old armpit tuck. Butt on your leg in an upright position facing you a little but mostly outward, tuck their back in your armpit so they cant fall backwards, use your arm to hold their arm out while gently but firmly holding the paw and extending the claws. Mom has two black cats and they have never had their claws trimmed. They are outdoor cats but stay quite a bit of time inside as well. They don't sharpen their claws on random objects and stick to their climbing tree to do that on. Both of them are awesome too.
I have three cats, and the trick is to win their trust and gain their consent. It took over a year before my oldest cat would just sit beside me and let me trim her claws. If you're gentle and patient, it eventually happens.
Mine prefers me to cuddle her into a comfy pose and then she allows me to trim her claws without a fight. It also help if you get the cat use to having their paws touched. I don't even care what of the two it is in your case but I would advise you to not spread bs and make yourself look not only stupid but also like a very bad animal owner. I pray for any animal that has to live with you.

Hello, resident cat-man and renowned clipper of difficult family cats' nails here. I just put my legs around on either side of the cat and gently assert dominance. Ensure they can't escape by huddling down putting your chest over their back, wrap your free hand around the side to the desired front paw and carefully clip with your dominant hand. Note that this doesn't work if the cat already hates you but I've never experienced this, usually even if they hiss while grabbing them initially they relax and merely meow/protest once they know they aren't getting away
Yup!! That's my experience too! 😑😂
Cats are the most high maintenance low maintenance pets on earth

Friends, since you can't, then leave it to a pet groomer, keep your pet from getting hurt...🤭
Or the vet. If they're way too resistant not even a groomer can get it done.
Some groomers won't handle a radical cat.
BE CAREFUL, it has been proven that a lot of times per groomers don’t have the patience to deal with other peoples pets . Only go to a reputable place that lets you check in on your pet
A lot of groomers won’t accept cats because of that reason
If u get your cat as a kitten make sure you start trimming their claws as kittens so theyre used to it as adults.

Sounds like your cat is borderline feral. That goes beyond "trust issues". They are probably right in their assessment...
Wow!!! Hope she recovered well from her injuries!
@@sarah-ve7hu she did recover surprisingly well. She surpassed all expectations coz her prognosis was very grim. It took a bit of work and physiotherapy, but now she is a fully functioning cat that can run and jump and all four legs function well. She has also taken up extreme sports like curtain climbing, high jumps and hunting at super high speeds, she seems unaffected by her injury. But the physiotherapist did warn us that her injury could cause her some trouble when she will become an elderly lady. But for now, enjoying life to the fullest.
@@SpiritDragoness Wow!!!! Amazing!!!!
Here’s a tip for trimming your cats claws (that I use with my cat) :
1 : wait for them to be lazy and lay down
2 : distract them with a toy while they are laying down
3 : don’t let them attack the toy (or give it to them every few minutes)
4: trim their claws while they are laying down and watching the toy
hope this helps :D
😮gracias 🙂

I do the first suggestion. She's next to me dozing off and I gently lift her paw and trim as much as I can. Can't always get all the claws at one time, but little my little, she gets her manicure.
Or get a happy hoodie and someone to pet them. Make sure you are fast and know what you are looking for. 3 cats done in 15 minutes or less. Should time myself when i just do their nails.
Thanks for the laugh !! 😂

I can’t stop laughing that the cat escaped
Interesting! Trimming your cat’s claws is not a thing in Germany. Even if they are indoor cats. We live with this dangerous little things and I think, the thrill is part of the whole thing. 😂
American owners are too lazy to teach their cats not to claw them when kneading or not scratching furniture
@@DissociativeDevilsAdvocate a lot of cats nails snag and overgrow if they’re not trimmed and they can be ripped out. But sure Americans are just “lazy”
@@fart63 yes they are lazy. In general very few pet owners are actually good care givers. One of my own cats doesnt have the ability to retract her claws.
@@DissociativeDevilsAdvocate wtf does your cats unfortunate circumstance have to do with the conversation lmao? If you have well behaved cats then you have well behaved cats. Some of us have aggressive rescues and playful kittens. Some of us have lazy cats that don’t care to scratch. Some of us need to better our cats lives by getting rid of a hindrance to them that they can’t get rid of themselves. It’s our job to take care of a species that we domesticated by meeting our own cats needs. But I guess it’s “lazy”

I have 3 cats and all 3 of them let me clip their nails. You put them in your lap you give them lots of love and you tell them it's ok and what a good cat they are. Done.
yeah like its gonna work on every breed of cats
@@-0skmeb891 certainly not but its good to try. The best way to ease your cats into it is when they are kittens. You dont clip them when they are tiny tiny of course but playing with and touching their paws until you eventually work them enough to trust you to hold those paws is a wonderful way to ease your cats into claw clipping. It does work sometimes if the cat is older but the training does take longer
Bro just switched to a calmer cat and then put the cat on the same way he did before 😭

How to lose the trust of a cat:
I just let my cat sleep on my lap. Then I trim his nails because he too sleepy to fight back 😗
You usually don't do that on bath tub because you know they have traumatic experience in there.😅
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That striped cat is an awesome looking cat
Exactly how my kittens handle this.
Just pick up your cat and put it on your lap works 10/10 times
Not all cats.....
Exactly, give em the good old armpit tuck. Butt on your leg in an upright position facing you a little but mostly outward, tuck their back in your armpit so they cant fall backwards, use your arm to hold their arm out while gently but firmly holding the paw and extending the claws. Use the free hand to trim
If your cat trusts you enough you can do this way or roll it into a blanket if it's not that much friendly
:sister how much times did you watched this?
:me yes I don’t know how angry that cat was 😅
Mom has two black cats and they have never had their claws trimmed. They are outdoor cats but stay quite a bit of time inside as well.
They don't sharpen their claws on random objects and stick to their climbing tree to do that on.
Both of them are awesome too.
Death sentence, it's inhumane.
I never had to trim my cats claws, they have several scratching posts, both vertical and horizontal, it does the trick.
It does but I have a 3 legged kitty who can't use scratching posts the best. So we do have to help her and trim her claws.
Can we actually take time to understand how flipping fast that cats reflexes was to catch itself 🤣
😂😂😂😂
I just cut my cats claws when he sleeps. If he wakes up, then i just continue a few hours later when he sleeps again.
I’m glad I’m not alone! 😂
Cats can't stay at a place for a long time, this thing is useful for a dog
Those cats are like : not today!!!!??
I have three cats, and the trick is to win their trust and gain their consent. It took over a year before my oldest cat would just sit beside me and let me trim her claws. If you're gentle and patient, it eventually happens.

Mine prefers me to cuddle her into a comfy pose and then she allows me to trim her claws without a fight. It also help if you get the cat use to having their paws touched.
