If all christains walk in love by the discription of this song, it would be a better world.
The hypocrisy of fundamentalists is evident. Somehow capitalism and faith have become tied together. Missing the point of Jesus' teachings.

Who is watching in late 2020? I think this version of the song epitomizes the missions of the Salvation Army.
I beleive that this song is concerning anyone going off to war, it could have been any war.
Someone at church requested this song and I was a little anxious over playing it (on my flute) since it is such a familiar secular song. But listening to this by MWSmith convinced me that the values it conveys to me (that we all need to be the bridge for those that are hurting in this world) and hopefully the further value many of us know of (that Jesus is the ultimate Bridge for all of us) will shine through! I was 10 when my grandpa died. This played at his memorial... I'll never forget that day. Last nite, I found out my great grandma died. She was 95. This song was #1 on the charts for 7 straight weeks in 1970. It's truly a universal message, as it speaks to the listener's heart, no matter what allegory it may be tied to. Paul and Art at their best. How ironic that it was the "straw that broke the camel's back" for Simon and Garfunkel as a group. Great performance, Michael. Just enough of "yourself" in it to get my attention.

I sang this song directly to my wife as it was playing while we were dancing face to face with each other at our wedding reception in June of 2003. We were just divorced on Wed Feb 2nd. This song will remind me of how my heart was broken by her betrayal and infidelity. It wasn't supposed to be like this. Love has become ancillary and meaningless in our disposable Western society.

One of my best friends left this world four days ago. We live in different states and when I was informed of this I couldn't shed a single tear, as if was unbelievable, maybe only my brain trying to protect me from pain, even I not being the emotional type. But I remembered this song and now I can't stop crying.

I wouldn't call it a "Gospel" tune, necessarily, but it's certainly Inspirational, and it's a song that has really been growing on me the past few years. I particularly like to hear Elvis Presley's versions of it, but this version is very good and reminds me a lot of Simon and Garfunkel's original.
THIS SONG INSPIRED MY MOTHER WHEN I WAS YOUNG AND NOW MORE THAN EVER IT HAS INSPIRTED ME AS WELL. I REALLY LIKE THE WAY MICHAEL W. SMITH SINGS IT THE BEST.
