I grew up in the 80s and 90s, and we used to breakdance all the time in and around the hood. Never thought in my wildest dreams that something like this from our neighborhoods would be such a global phenomenon to the point that it's now an Olympic Sport. This is so freaking cool!!! I just wish I was back in my younger days again, I'd be right out there with them, not just competing but doing it for the love of it, while representing my country......I did that part in the U.S. Army (1995-2004), combat veteran (Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan, 2003)!!!

We had a guy, Benny, who was every bit as good with the windmill as anyone today. It's really cool to see that break dancing has flourished. I tried to get back out in my mid 30s and my body said nope.
The judges in Paris got it right. Phil Wizard is definitely the gold medal winner after watching this. He’s just the total package, the most well-rounded breaker. He has creativity, flow, style, and the moves. Everyone else has one or a few, but he has it all. Well done B-Boy Phil Wizard🥇
I love how they just look like they’re having fun, and just happen to be at the olympic qualifiers. I also love that they’re battling each other, those one on one events always add sportsmanship I don’t see in other sports, because you have to put all your attention on the other and respect their effort.
Who else came here looking for Raygun? At the 2:00 min mark, Nikia from Lithuania is the Olympic qualifier. Raygun ain’t on here. Still trying to figure out how she made it. She did succeed in one thing tho, she has us looking at Australia’s break dance scene and in that aspect I give her respect. It’s some real talent over there.
Japan’s so clean. Litheing is best only at his power moves, and then he has good showmanship, which is good for battle, but it all depends on the format of the Olympics.
My mom and uncle used to breakdance professionally back in the 80s they would spin on their head in cement and flip all kinda stuff i love seeing the new moves from today. I love how everyone has a individual style

Or grading n the basis of originality, artistic ability, athleticism, rhythm. I'm gonna watch the Olympic team! This should be interesting!
Usually it isn't completely scripted (while they have some sequences they do script) and is more of a freestyle to whatever the DJ plays. Ofc, some bboys are more scripted while others are much more dynamic and free. Additionally you have the whole battle element which one of the fundamental roots of breaking. Responding to the opponent and having a convo while dancing.
It isn't and all the people that bashed it saying it wasn't an athletic sport worthy of being in the Olympics clearly know absolutely nothing about breakdancing. These men do absolutely unbelievable things with their bodies

Hahaha. I'm born in 1970. Danced in the early eighties as a teen. We basically learnt the moves from Beat Street and the few random clips we were able to record from tv. There was no one to teach us. I know the Roxy battle from a to z 😅
I remember a large group of us going when it released. Those were the days. Jeans jackets with our favorite image hand painted on the backs, two tone lee jeans, shell toe adidas or suede pumas and a Kangol. Oh how I miss it. I am 50 now.

Wow Im now 48yrs old and remember when the break dancing scene began in the uk.. I lived in a poor area of my city and me and my mates got a scrap piece of lino in front of the local shops and started dancing for $$$s i was 9yrs back nearly 4 decades ago.. with us earning enough money for a few sweets and cans of pop.. lmao but I never made it to the level of these dancers..truth said they have really pushed the game forward.. I was also a fantastic athlete and always regret not going all out for the Olympics.. I think this Olympics is going to be my favourite so far.. amazing respect for the dedication and creative talent 😎👊💥Boooom

Watched a dancer by the name Sunday Mobile at Makerere University in Kampala Uganda and the competition was electric. Sunday Mobile went on to become the winner of Malibu World dancing competition. Now we are watching France 2024 and it takes me back to days gone by. Was happy and excited to hear breakfasting broke through to get here..
I learned break dancing as kid originally for theatre but I realized I could mix the foot work of break dancing with self defense lessons I’ve taken and now I LOVE break dancing. It’s my favorite and I hope more people look into the sport because it’s so fun

I dont know anything about the competition, so some of my thoughts may already be covered. But I hope that like ice skating and gymnastics, they have certain moves that they have to incorporate to be comparatively judged on. Otherwise, it is way too subjective. And they need men and women separate, cause obviously there are strength moves they can't probably perform.

Breaking has advanced to the point that I can no longer comprehend what i'm seeing in real time. This is a very good thing.
Among all dance forms, it definitely is the most physically demanding and well deserves its place! Just hope the judging isn't too subjective.

I’m on my way to work, standing at the bus stop with my headphones on, holding my to-go cup of coffee, watching the video, nodding my head and swaying my hips back and forth... waddling a bit with my legs. With the music playing , it feels cool. But when I look at the faces around me, I’d rather not know how it looks. 😂 I don't know what I'm doing. But i'm doing it!

It is freestyle. We don’t know what music the DJ will play beforehand. There’s a lot of in-the-moment strategy involved because depending what your opponent does you have to respond accordingly

I dont know anything about the competition, so some of my thoughts may already be covered.
But I hope that like ice skating and gymnastics, they have certain moves that they have to incorporate to be comparatively judged on. Otherwise, it is way too subjective.
And they need men and women separate, cause obviously there are strength moves they can't probably perform.
