Nice work on the future proofing. 👍 I actually have a Vader and a Junior sitting on a shelf that need similar work. I should probably move those up in the to-do queue.

MindFlareRetro keep watching. In the week coming I’m going to be doing an A/V mod, pause mod and an LED mod !

4:24 The instructions on the website where I bought my refresh kit (which comes with the same components) shows that you remove C242 as well and just replace it with one of the chiclet caps that came in the kit (even though C242 is a brown cap), and it says to remove and replace C242 on all the different revisions of the 4 switch they list (rev 13 and under, rev 14 and 15, and rev 16+).

4 orange caps towards the rear can be replaced with TDK 0.22uF 100V 20% film box caps.

Maybe adding a real heatsink to the voltage regulator would not be such a bad thing.

I bought the Easycargo 20pcs Raspberry Pi 4 Heatsink Kit (the small individual ones with the sticky thermal pads) for my 4 switch and put them on all the chips and the voltage regulator (the tiny ones in that kit fit perfectly on the voltage regulator). Overkill maybe, but at least the chips and voltage regulator aren't going to die from a thermal issue, and the are low enough profile to allow you to still put the RF shield on.

@@madmax2069 There are heat sinks, which are made to fit the different sizes of DIP ICs (like DIP28, DIP40). It is better than putting several small heat sinks on one IC. The heat is generated in the middle and it does not spread equally over the whole IC. So with like three small heat sink, you will get a hot one in the middle and two without much effect on each end if the IC. It is better, than no heatsink, though.

@@svenpetersen1965 I know that multiple smaller individuals heatsinks are not as effective as one larger one (the overall effectiveness didn't bother me as the chips don't get too hot anyways, the voltage regulator on the other hand gets a fair bit hotter than the CPU/TIA/RIOT chips do), but it was either $7 for a 20 pack (which I can use the leftovers for other things, and I do have a Raspberry PI 400 that could use a little more cooling), or $4 for a 4 pack.

Do you sell a kit for the heavy sixer? I’ve got a few 6 switch and 1 4 switch but I’d like to fix my childhood sixer.

I have a question for the RF module if it really rusted out you think that is the problem with no video or sound and of course recapping it with the A/V mod would fix this issue with no sound or video

Funny you sigh at 2:38 because a 40 year old gaming console will have to be cleaned too. Did you expect any less? Also, Light Sixer came out before the Vader.
