There’s an argument that once cities no longer cared about infrastructure investment that that’s when our dressing up for everything went downhill. For example, after most of Penn Station was demolished it was no longer a grand event to goto penn station, etc etc etc. this happened all over the country. Now people goto airports with pajamas.. I’m not saying anything is wrong with any of this just a thought on the topic

I wonder how many of these souls were lost during WW1 and WW2. This was before all that. Before the sinking of the Titanic. Before the Spanish Flu. They seem just so, ordinary. It’s melancholic and beautiful. Thank you for sharing this bit of history with the world!

My friend, vocal coach and rehearsal pianist, whom I used to hang out with the 1950s, was born in 1892 and played piano professionally in New York at age 15. She could be in this video, though it is impossible for me to think of her as ever having dressed like that. Her father had one of the first automobiles in Poughkeepsie. I'm 84 now and only my earliest youth seems long ago; the 1950s still seem like yesterday.
This was my grandmother’s time period. She was born in 1891. During her era, people dressed up to go shopping, go out to dinner, to travel, go to church or any public place. She wore a dress, corset, gloves, hat, jewelry and her “pocket book”(purse), hose just to try on a dress at the department store! Her Sunday finest! It was considered improper etiquette not to. She had her Spring/Summer clothes and her Fall/Winter clothes. She never wore her white Summer accessories after Labor Day and never before Easter. Her Winter accessories were always navy blue and were never worn in Spring or Summer! She starched and ironed everything! Even the sheets! She would scrub the porch and sidewalk on her knees with a “pale” and hand brush! She only wore dresses or “house coats” and never wore trousers! They were considered masculine. The era depicted in this video was the “norm” for proper attire in public. It amazes me how calmly everyone strolls about and no one is in a rush. It wasn’t considered good manners to be rushing about or to be loud in public. Keep in mind, this era was before we learned how to wage world wars. Most people didn’t yet own cars. The stock market hadn’t crashed yet. Women didn’t have jobs outside of the home or the right to vote. It’s a bygone era that my grandmother grew up in. It was the Victorian era. Thank you for this film. I understand my Grandma better now.

Then, in 1969, when we landed on the moon, a news station here in California interviewed a woman who was 113 years old and came west in a covered wagon in the late 1850’s to escape the coming Civil War! The reporter wanted her impression of the moon landing. She was so excited! She couldn’t believe she got to live long enough to see that! Can you imagine living in her time period and all that she experienced?

Before the space age, pantyhose, before everyone had a TV, color TV, TVs shut off after the 11:00 pm news, Velcro, synthetic fabric, digital anything, nylon zippers, transistor radios, push button phones, before the sound barrier was broken, Pan Am & TWA were the big airline companies, Vietnam was an unknown country, Tanzania was called Tanganyika, Sri Lanka was Ceylon, Taiwan was Formosa, computers occupied rooms not laps, I demonstrated the first microwave ovens, the first PONG Table tennis game, the first air hockey games at trade shows, the internet wasn’t in existence, I was 17 years old when we landed on the moon, and my grandmother died just 2 years before that event. She was 75 years old when she died.
Absolutely amazing. I had to keep reminding myself that I wasn't looking at a film set. These were real people from over a hundred years ago. It's almost like having a time machine.
Cleaner streets and air. Quieter, with fewer crowds and vehicles. 1911 did have its advantages. As a time traveler, I would love to visit that time period.
Also no antibiotics, life expectancy of 60, child mortality rate of 30% average and 60% in poorer areas, extreme racism, lynchings, segregation, scarce electricity, cars only affordable for the ultra rich and made to make a few miles only, poor heating, poor cooling, no TV, no internet, not even vinyl records; only radio and papers. For the women kitchen and church (except in the countryside), married at 15 to 35-year-old heavy drinking guys, scarce healthcare provided. And the most horrible human confrontation looming on the horizon. Just saying.

That would be mostly white tshirts and denim jeans (with or without holes), no stupid blazer and shoes you can easily use from one reason to another. I wouldnt read to much into it. It was basically Americas fob era that got far to out of hand and lasted for far to long and in certain spots of large cities, does still today but also remember that there was a real lack of availability of styles of clothing that could be fuctional in all daily life and as you can see in the video, each style is basically age and function specific. As all futures judge, we may be seen as nude or prude but regardless, we can only use the tools at hand that best ~suits our needs.
I couldn't shake the thought that these people are long gone, and that puts things in perspective. We are only here for a very brief period. Still beautiful to see everyone going about their lives in 1911, more than 100 yrs ago.
Many men cheated on their wives with prostitutes and STDs were very common. A good friend of mine worked as an RN in a hospital ER in inner city Chicago in the last 70s, 80s and she said they commonly ran STD tests on very elderly female patients because it was often found that unbeknownst to them, they had been carrying syphillis for many years due to the cheating of their husbands decades earlier.

My grandfather and his brothers were teens in the city back then. They loved it - my great uncle boasted he never left NYC bc it had everything anyone could need or want. Wonderful to see what it was like. Nicer than it is now, I’d say. The skyscrapers block out too much sunlight.
My great great grandmother was born in 1911 February and she is 112 now, outlived 4 monarchs, World War I and World War II,she outlived her 2 daughters, both died of old age in 2019 at 90 and the other at 89(her third daughter, my great grandmother is still living at 88)lived to see 10 Popes in her lifetime, lived to see 20 US presidents, born when Taft was in office, she had 4 siblings and they all passed away, her last sibling passed away in 2012 at 96 and her husband(my great great grandpa) died in 2001 at 93. She has been through so much. My family is known for longevity, maybe there is something in our gene :) . I was born in 1996 and in my lifetime i saw and talked to 8 members of my family who were over 100 years old. My 4th great grandmother was born in 1851 and died in 1956.

There is a TV series called 'The Knick' set in 1911 in this same area. The footage is even more amazing when you watch the series and learn about the conditions people lived under. Also there is a youtube video where someone looked up the reg of the car and painstakingly found out who the family, driver was and how they did which was mind-blowing.
I'm watching this video out of respect for my Mother. She was born in November 1911. I try to recall the stories that were passed down to me concerning the events that have taken place since then. She lived to be 84, and passed from congestive heart failure. Her doctor was older than her, and told my family that she probably had that condition since birth. I thank you for posting this for it is helpful in ways that you may not be aware of. At 72 years of age, my mind is gradually slipping, and events that I know as fact, have become foggy, so videos such as this are greatly appreciated and very helpful. Once again, Thank You.
Unbelievable how built up it already was. I love that all the buildings aren’t just glass rectangles, they all have substance and their own thing going for them. Really tripped me out seeing the horse carriages still being common practice
There is a downside to that style of building tho, you’d probably rather be working all day in the building with the nice windows letting in all that natural light.

Wearing hats died out after WW2. The trend lingered on through the late 50's, but by the 1960's was pretty much gone. Some say that the military requirement to wear hats ( & helmets) in WW2 soured men on them permanently.
Yeah, looking at this video I was thinking that my great grandma wasn't even born yet. She wasn't born til 1915. The titanic hadn't even sunk yet. Talk about an awesome time travel. Some of these videos just shock me cause I didn't realize how many videos were taken back in those days. It's great to get this footage and see REAL people that were walking the streets in those exact days.
My maternal grandmother was also 18 years old, born in 1893, and my paternal grandmother was born the year this was filmed, 1911. So strange and lovely at the same time to be transported back in time.
@Post Toasty 103! I'm glad you had her so long! How wonderful all the girls went to college! My grandmother and her parents came from Austria-Hungary, actually Lviv, Ukraine. She gave me a book by Jacob Riis, Children of the Tenements, full of those awful photos. I asked my mother why Grandma gave me such a sad book and she said Grandma wanted me to know how children lived when she was a little girl.

The thing I love about these videos isn't the colorization. It's that they've been speed-corrected. When I was younger the people in old films always looked like they were speed-walking; it was tough to identify with them. Now you can see that they walked, talked, and gestured the same way we do today. Obviously that's the case... it just doesn't feel quite so distant. One day people will be looking back in amazement as us too.
You nailed it. The speed correction is what makes it feel so familiar and yet alien because the world today looks quite different. Most noticeably the way people dressed.

It's incredible to be able to see such an era, I just wish the invention came out even earlier so we could atleast see 1600s & 1700s. Recording history is probably the greatest idea humans have had, well besides everything else.

in 100 years, people will have the opportunity to look 500-600 years into the past (your desire to look into the 17th century). The end of the 18th century - the beginning of the 19th century is already on TH-cam!

Feels like a virtual time machine. It’s as close as it gets to actually being there. No matter how well your imagination can fill the void or how well Hollywood sets can recreate 1911; nothing short of a real time machine or actually living through this era in time it is going to match or surpass the energy, visuals and vibes you will feel in this well executed and digitally enhanced video.
Yes! I do in fact think TH-cam and other such places is like a real life time machine! Remember how folks back in the day of Back to the Future must've imagined how cool a real life time machine might be? Well we do now! And hopefully in due time we can colorize films like these without that weird purple effect and maybe be able to be in whatever historical period you want in 3D or in some sort of holodeck kind of deal...though the last part I reckon is well beyond our lifetimes.

It's strange to consider that my grandfather, who held me as an infant, was 26 years old when this was filmed. We are here so briefly before the tide of history pulls us back.

I don't know anything about my Dad's parents, they passed away before i was born.. they were more older.. my dad was born in 1965.. and he was the 4th son among 8 siblings.. so imagine how old my Dad's parents would be.. it really depends on family. My mom got married when she was 28-30 years old.. Both of my parents passed away in 2013.. I'm the only daughter living
I like that the added sound in this feels very natural, not artificially overdone and forced like in a lot of these films where sometimes it feels like they're just adding a bunch of noise for the novelty of it. This feels a lot more like actually being there.

Wow a year before the titanic sank. Looking at all the young children and wondering if they ever became someone’s grandfather/mother is fascinating. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of how living a typical day in NY was like back in the early 1900s.
Imagine a machine like in the movie "Déjà Vu" starring Denzel Washington and Val Kilmer, by means of which we could send a paper message into the past. Then we could write down what will happen to Titanic and warn them, thus trying to change history. But probably our warnings would be ignored and we would, in the end, change nothing, because physical laws would otherwise be violated.
My great grandparents were either in their late teens or early 20's here. Still a few years or so away from having my grandparents. WW1 hasn't even started yet. Amazing to think about it that way. Such a simpler time in life. The world and life in America really got crazy in the last 110 years.

And I wonder how long it took for these women to dress, because they’re dressed from head to toes. Not only the big dresses on the outside, but underneath. Most of them have their hair in an updo style. Then a big hat on top of that. Then the corset, the brazier, petticoat, shoes, makeup, brush your teeth, small breakfast, and shower. Sounds like going to work meant getting up 2 to 3 hours early! Sounds very tiresome!!

It's amazing how people feel so stress free and they don't rush. They take their time to even look around at their surroundings with curiosity. It's like no one is in a hurry. People are walking slowly and with dignity, something that is missing today.
Because these people didn't worry about things like preserving anything, they cared not about anyone but themselves, resources were still abundant. Today we have to deal with the issues caused by this carefreeness... This is the closest thing to time travel we have. Crazy to think that every single one of these people and animals have all since died. They all lived out their lives and died long ago. But we can watch them walking around New York City in 1911 as if we were there watching them, among them...

I'm quite impressed with the pristine quality of this video! To think that virtually everyone walking around in this video is long deceased seeing that as of July 26, 2023, the oldest living person born in the United States for example is Maria Branyas who was born in 1907 making the woman only around 4 when this video was filmed. Most though probably not all of the *adults* here (those who were born in the early 1890s and back) have probably passed away sometime in the late 20th century (like 1970s to 1990s-ish) at the latest!
I look at these children in this video and wonder who they became in life. How many of the boys fought in WW1 and if they made it home. Just incredible to take a look back in time like this.

Old photos are all black and white, so when I was a kid, I used to imagine that the old days were just black and white, but that's not the case (^^♪ This is also a big lesson for me. But the sounds in this town are synthetic, aren't they?

Google is your friend. The first movie camera was built in 1888. Photographers were soon filming anything and everything (sorta like today, but with MUCH bigger cams 😃)
I was a child living in New York City in the 1980s. Perhaps some of the children in this video were elderly people still living in the city at that time.
My great grandmother was a hat designer in Manhattan in these times. It’s the reason why I studied fashion design initially 💜 seeing this finally gives me a glimpse of her life and work 😍 thank you for sharing.

I’ll be searching for a recognizable face in a last ditch attempt to learn anything from a long gone era. My great grandmother who lived to 2004 was born in 1911, my great grandfather was born in 1906 and lived til 1997. I am happy I got to meet and learn from people from this era.

The thing I noticed the most from this amazing video was the pace of life was so much slower than ours today in 2021. Life is so hectic today in the digital age. I really think people back then were much happier, smarter, and healthier as they walked most everywhere. Very rare to see anyone overweight. Time took it's time and nothing was rushed.
Happier? Maybe some people but not all. Not if you were a minority (especially black) with few rights. Also, the very young children working in factories and mines instead of going to school would probably disagree. Or industrial workers with 65 hour work weeks. As far as smarter, literacy and education rates have gone up drastically for everyone in the US, especially for minorities. And not healthier either. One out of every five babies died that year because childhood vaccines were barely getting off the ground. Cancer was a death sentence and penicillin hadn’t been discovered so people died from simple infections all the time. I get what you’re saying but you wouldn’t have found that slow life you’re describing in 1910 New York. Try a pre-industrial hunter-gatherer society. It’s estimated that they only worked around 15 hours per week.
Speed correction, colorization, restoration, sound effects...it really does so much to remove that barrier that makes you think this was all that long ago. Historically speaking, it's yesterday.
I lived in a house for a few months while i was fixing it that was built in the 1830s. It tripped me out thinking about how the people in the civil war werent even alive yet when the house is built and other things along those lined.

I barely appreciate cameras until I realized how they captured moments from the past for us to see on the present day, it's really the closest thing we can ever have like a time machine just like any other people would say. Truly a great invention of humanity.

There’s an argument that once cities no longer cared about infrastructure investment that that’s when our dressing up for everything went downhill. For example, after most of Penn Station was demolished it was no longer a grand event to goto penn station, etc etc etc. this happened all over the country. Now people goto airports with pajamas.. I’m not saying anything is wrong with any of this just a thought on the topic

My friend, vocal coach and rehearsal pianist, whom I used to hang out with the 1950s, was born in 1892 and played piano professionally in New York at age 15. She could be in this video, though it is impossible for me to think of her as ever having dressed like that. Her father had one of the first automobiles in Poughkeepsie. I'm 84 now and only my earliest youth seems long ago; the 1950s still seem like yesterday.

Fascinating to see that moment in history when cars were starting to become popular but many people still used horse drawn transport.
Look at the way they walked...incredible. they exuded confidence and class like no other.
They strutted with the extravagant boast of a fellow.
This was my grandmother’s time period. She was born in 1891. During her era, people dressed up to go shopping, go out to dinner, to travel, go to church or any public place. She wore a dress, corset, gloves, hat, jewelry and her “pocket book”(purse), hose just to try on a dress at the department store! Her Sunday finest! It was considered improper etiquette not to. She had her Spring/Summer clothes and her Fall/Winter clothes. She never wore her white Summer accessories after Labor Day and never before Easter. Her Winter accessories were always navy blue and were never worn in Spring or Summer! She starched and ironed everything! Even the sheets! She would scrub the porch and sidewalk on her knees with a “pale” and hand brush! She only wore dresses or “house coats” and never wore trousers! They were considered masculine. The era depicted in this video was the “norm” for proper attire in public. It amazes me how calmly everyone strolls about and no one is in a rush. It wasn’t considered good manners to be rushing about or to be loud in public. Keep in mind, this era was before we learned how to wage world wars. Most people didn’t yet own cars. The stock market hadn’t crashed yet. Women didn’t have jobs outside of the home or the right to vote. It’s a bygone era that my grandmother grew up in. It was the Victorian era. Thank you for this film. I understand my Grandma better now.

Then, in 1969, when we landed on the moon, a news station here in California interviewed a woman who was 113 years old and came west in a covered wagon in the late 1850’s to escape the coming Civil War! The reporter wanted her impression of the moon landing. She was so excited! She couldn’t believe she got to live long enough to see that! Can you imagine living in her time period and all that she experienced?

Before the space age, pantyhose, before everyone had a TV, color TV, TVs shut off after the 11:00 pm news, Velcro, synthetic fabric, digital anything, nylon zippers, transistor radios, push button phones, before the sound barrier was broken, Pan Am & TWA were the big airline companies, Vietnam was an unknown country, Tanzania was called Tanganyika, Sri Lanka was Ceylon, Taiwan was Formosa, computers occupied rooms not laps, I demonstrated the first microwave ovens, the first PONG Table tennis game, the first air hockey games at trade shows, the internet wasn’t in existence, I was 17 years old when we landed on the moon, and my grandmother died just 2 years before that event. She was 75 years old when she died.
Absolutely amazing. I had to keep reminding myself that I wasn't looking at a film set. These were real people from over a hundred years ago. It's almost like having a time machine.

Cleaner streets and air. Quieter, with fewer crowds and vehicles. 1911 did have its advantages. As a time traveler, I would love to visit that time period.
Also no antibiotics, life expectancy of 60, child mortality rate of 30% average and 60% in poorer areas, extreme racism, lynchings, segregation, scarce electricity, cars only affordable for the ultra rich and made to make a few miles only, poor heating, poor cooling, no TV, no internet, not even vinyl records; only radio and papers. For the women kitchen and church (except in the countryside), married at 15 to 35-year-old heavy drinking guys, scarce healthcare provided. And the most horrible human confrontation looming on the horizon. Just saying.

I wouldnt read to much into it. It was basically Americas fob era that got far to out of hand and lasted for far to long and in certain spots of large cities, does still today but also remember that there was a real lack of availability of styles of clothing that could be fuctional in all daily life and as you can see in the video, each style is basically age and function specific.
As all futures judge, we may be seen as nude or prude but regardless, we can only use the tools at hand that best ~suits our needs.
I couldn't shake the thought that these people are long gone, and that puts things in perspective. We are only here for a very brief period.
Still beautiful to see everyone going about their lives in 1911, more than 100 yrs ago.

Many men cheated on their wives with prostitutes and STDs were very common. A good friend of mine worked as an RN in a hospital ER in inner city Chicago in the last 70s, 80s and she said they commonly ran STD tests on very elderly female patients because it was often found that unbeknownst to them, they had been carrying syphillis for many years due to the cheating of their husbands decades earlier.

My great great grandmother was born in 1911 February and she is 112 now, outlived 4 monarchs, World War I and World War II,she outlived her 2 daughters, both died of old age in 2019 at 90 and the other at 89(her third daughter, my great grandmother is still living at 88)lived to see 10 Popes in her lifetime, lived to see 20 US presidents, born when Taft was in office, she had 4 siblings and they all passed away, her last sibling passed away in 2012 at 96 and her husband(my great great grandpa) died in 2001 at 93. She has been through so much.
My family is known for longevity, maybe there is something in our gene :) . I was born in 1996 and in my lifetime i saw and talked to 8 members of my family who were over 100 years old.
My 4th great grandmother was born in 1851 and died in 1956.

There is a TV series called 'The Knick' set in 1911 in this same area. The footage is even more amazing when you watch the series and learn about the conditions people lived under. Also there is a youtube video where someone looked up the reg of the car and painstakingly found out who the family, driver was and how they did which was mind-blowing.
I'm watching this video out of respect for my Mother. She was born in November 1911. I try to recall the stories that were passed down to me concerning the events that have taken place since then. She lived to be 84, and passed from congestive heart failure. Her doctor was older than her, and told my family that she probably had that condition since birth. I thank you for posting this for it is helpful in ways that you may not be aware of. At 72 years of age, my mind is gradually slipping, and events that I know as fact, have become foggy, so videos such as this are greatly appreciated and very helpful. Once again, Thank You.

Wearing hats died out after WW2. The trend lingered on through the late 50's, but by the 1960's was pretty much gone. Some say that the military requirement to wear hats ( & helmets) in WW2 soured men on them permanently.
My grandmother was 18 when this was filmed. What a treat to see the NYC she knew.
Yeah, looking at this video I was thinking that my great grandma wasn't even born yet. She wasn't born til 1915. The titanic hadn't even sunk yet. Talk about an awesome time travel. Some of these videos just shock me cause I didn't realize how many videos were taken back in those days. It's great to get this footage and see REAL people that were walking the streets in those exact days.
My maternal grandmother was also 18 years old, born in 1893, and my paternal grandmother was born the year this was filmed, 1911. So strange and lovely at the same time to be transported back in time.

She gave me a book by Jacob Riis, Children of the Tenements, full of those awful photos. I asked my mother why Grandma gave me such a sad book and she said Grandma wanted me to know how children lived when she was a little girl.

The thing I love about these videos isn't the colorization. It's that they've been speed-corrected.
When I was younger the people in old films always looked like they were speed-walking; it was tough to identify with them. Now you can see that they walked, talked, and gestured the same way we do today. Obviously that's the case... it just doesn't feel quite so distant.
One day people will be looking back in amazement as us too.

It's incredible to be able to see such an era, I just wish the invention came out even earlier so we could atleast see 1600s & 1700s. Recording history is probably the greatest idea humans have had, well besides everything else.

They've existed since the advent of the internet and Ive seen it my whole usage but I never understood why? Well done. One of the most interesting videos I have come across in a long time. It’s captivating.
Feels like a virtual time machine. It’s as close as it gets to actually being there.
No matter how well your imagination can fill the void or how well Hollywood sets can recreate 1911; nothing short of a real time machine or actually living through this era in time it is going to match or surpass the energy, visuals and vibes you will feel in this well executed and digitally enhanced video.

Yes! I do in fact think TH-cam and other such places is like a real life time machine! Remember how folks back in the day of Back to the Future must've imagined how cool a real life time machine might be? Well we do now! And hopefully in due time we can colorize films like these without that weird purple effect and maybe be able to be in whatever historical period you want in 3D or in some sort of holodeck kind of deal...though the last part I reckon is well beyond our lifetimes.

I like that the added sound in this feels very natural, not artificially overdone and forced like in a lot of these films where sometimes it feels like they're just adding a bunch of noise for the novelty of it. This feels a lot more like actually being there.

Then we could write down what will happen to Titanic and warn them, thus trying to change history. My great grandparents were either in their late teens or early 20's here. Still a few years or so away from having my grandparents. WW1 hasn't even started yet. Amazing to think about it that way. Such a simpler time in life. The world and life in America really got crazy in the last 110 years.

And I wonder how long it took for these women to dress, because they’re dressed from head to toes. Not only the big dresses on the outside, but underneath. Sounds like going to work meant getting up 2 to 3 hours early! Sounds very tiresome!!

It's amazing how people feel so stress free and they don't rush. They take their time to even look around at their surroundings with curiosity. It's like no one is in a hurry. People are walking slowly and with dignity, something that is missing today.
Because these people didn't worry about things like preserving anything, they cared not about anyone but themselves, resources were still abundant. Today we have to deal with the issues caused by this carefreeness...

I'm quite impressed with the pristine quality of this video! To think that virtually everyone walking around in this video is long deceased seeing that as of July 26, 2023, the oldest living person born in the United States for example is Maria Branyas who was born in 1907 making the woman only around 4 when this video was filmed.
Most though probably not all of the *adults* here (those who were born in the early 1890s and back) have probably passed away sometime in the late 20th century (like 1970s to 1990s-ish) at the latest!

My great grandmother who lived to 2004 was born in 1911, my great grandfather was born in 1906 and lived til 1997. I am happy I got to meet and learn from people from this era.

@@MarioVAmaya Not only did you have to worry about being hit by a car, but run over by horses. Long before I was born (around 1919) a 3-year old aunt of mine was killed by horses in Chicago.

The thing I noticed the most from this amazing video was the pace of life was so much slower than ours today in 2021. Life is so hectic today in the digital age. I really think people back then were much happier, smarter, and healthier as they walked most everywhere. Very rare to see anyone overweight. Time took it's time and nothing was rushed.
Exactly, it wasn’t chase a dollar sign til you cripple your social life, and personal life. Til you are overworked tired and bitter.
Happier? Maybe some people but not all. Not if you were a minority (especially black) with few rights. Also, the very young children working in factories and mines instead of going to school would probably disagree. Or industrial workers with 65 hour work weeks.
As far as smarter, literacy and education rates have gone up drastically for everyone in the US, especially for minorities.
And not healthier either. One out of every five babies died that year because childhood vaccines were barely getting off the ground. Cancer was a death sentence and penicillin hadn’t been discovered so people died from simple infections all the time.
I get what you’re saying but you wouldn’t have found that slow life you’re describing in 1910 New York. Try a pre-industrial hunter-gatherer society. It’s estimated that they only worked around 15 hours per week.

Speed correction, colorization, restoration, sound effects...it really does so much to remove that barrier that makes you think this was all that long ago. Historically speaking, it's yesterday.
I lived in a house for a few months while i was fixing it that was built in the 1830s. It tripped me out thinking about how the people in the civil war werent even alive yet when the house is built and other things along those lined.
