there is a warehouse down here with a ton of those old tractors. Some mans collection along with a bunch of cars new and old..thats an awesome tractor..
Hey there Billy, if you want the paint to last a lot lnger, just get some fiberglass resin and mix your paint into it and its hard as a rock once cured....and looks cool, I guess it would like gelcoat, then spray it with clear coat, I can sent you pics of the ones I did, ttyl.
Around here it so soft that most farmers get steel wheels for there brand new tractors. Well they have had rubber over them so they dont tear up the roads but still not a soft ride
Hi Bill (not forgetting your dad!), Some really interesting Tractors from way back when with those CASE medals which were under cover at the Farm you went to, I am assuming anyway. I am not that old but still remember when my dad had an Austin 7 I think it was and that was cranked up and the crank handle used to stay in the front of the engine, though not engaged. Not sure if this is what dad did to prevent the finding of the starter-handle each
time, but that was easy to start, I used to start it the only way was with the Handle and I was not more than about 8 ! People really do get spoiled. I guess not that far in the future cars with start automatically when we press the door opening key-fob, and have some kind of mechanism to mend punters almost before they become obvious? And how far away are we from just having to think, "Start" and the car or whatever we own will start with no key?
The wheelbase was just over 6 ft and was truly the first micro mini with a 7 horsepower engine. Looking at it now I realise just how tiny the car was, but for our family it was a huge step-up from a BSA Bantam Motorcycle and sidecar, though the car was only about 7.5/8ft long which was about the same as the sidecar!
I think the longest journey I ever did and our whole family of mum dad and four very young kids was about 70 miles to the coast. We of course got stuck in traffic several miles from the actual Town, Southend or Brighton I think, and I was busting for a pee, and there was no carpet needless to say but bare floors, well in our Austin 7 it was, and there was a small fist sized screw cover plate where the brakes were bled, and I don't know how, but I got down there and peed through that hole!
Not so weird when the solid nature and such a bouncy/crunchy type of ride to it, I know everything is kinda over-designed, but I guess the fuel tank fittings were not one of the things over built made of plain gauge sheet steel? Nice old tractor, and I have only watched as far into the video where it was leaking, so do not know what he did to remedy this, though if he had something to pump out the Tank a modern repair with a home-made gasket and sealant would probably do the job?
That gives a new meaning to jump starting. Thanx for the vid I love the old tractors
