I think Tafsir = the explanation by Shaykh As-Sa'di in order to understand the Quran Translation = translating the meaning of the words from one language to another (arabic to english)
During the Tafsir's class we do two things: Read the Tafsir of the Aayah by Imam As Sa'di رحمه الله And make our own, more accurate English translation based on that tafsir, as well as taking inspiration from Shaykh Hilali's and Sahih International's translation رحمه الله. Before the Ustadh حفظه الله used to Read tafsir and work on the translation at the same time. But some students complained that they weren't able to benefit as much from it, hence the revised structure.
