You may just have a defective antenna; as you said VAS tends to make good stuff. Not sure it's within return period to test that theory. I've been doing FPV for over a decade, and have very recently started learning proper ham radio (got my general license etc). One "ham tool" I got this year, which I really wish I got earlier on in my FPV career, is my NanoVNA ultra. It wasn't cheap at $200, and not as good at 5.8GHz as the $10k rigs, but it is good enough to give me an idea what FPV antenna is doing what. A quick run on the VNA would show if that antenna is in fact defective/damaged. Of course the most useful thing it can do is give me a visual when I'm tweaking tuning on any antenna.

@truglodite its not defective nor damaged. I had one given to me some years ago back when the zohd drift came out. I thought that one might have been defective... But buying this new one proves it. It's crap. I have been flying fpv before fatshark came out. All we had back then was a 7" monitor and a 200mw vtx that was the size of a pack of cigarettes.. Lmbo 😂
But I appreciate your input. I never thought I would need a transmission tester or antenna tester. I will just stick to what I am used to. The old school blue top madmushroom and airscrew. They are Awesome!

You can see my first minion pro from 4 years ago in this video.

@@JD_1 Yeah I have to agree if I had those results I'd feel the same way about those antennas. Looking in to them they have an elevated gain compared to a typical omni, which can be hard to work with for some FPV applications. They might be good for a rover or similar though.

@truglodite probably better at being a rx antenna

@@JD_1 Ah yes I remember the those giant VTx's (Lawmate were especially gigantic!). Lots of my older stuff has been relegated to the bone yard, but I did recently repurpose an old boscam ts351, Aomway SPW, and an APM 2.5 for a rover side project. For new builds and replacements though, I found axII, triumph pro, and singularity are my top performers on the vtx side. I usually have a VAS x-hair xtreme and an axII on my goggles.

that's too bad, they have matching circular polarization?

Yes. Should be a standard omni directional antenna according to the specs. But it performed badly. Never would have thought a flywoo antenna would out perform a VAS.

@@JD_1 I've done a few little comparisons with vtx antenna too, to I was surprised how well the cheap simple ones performed as good or better sometimes

@aerialcombat it's been some years since I did some comparison test. When I tested vas years ago. I fell in love. And still today... Nothing seems to compare with the performance of the old school blue top madmushroom and airscrew. The ground station vas antennas out perform most on the market as well. But honestly the last I bought ( minion pro and ion ) sucked. I tried the ion on my mars fpv last weekend. And for some reason using it... My video feed would go black n white. I switched back to the blue top madmushroom... And video feed is rock soild again
