That was the best WR review ever. Watching the mighty little R at the hands of someone capable of riding and hammering on it was awesome. Makes me feel like an amateur on my 2012 WR250R. Thanks Wayne!
"Gently used wr250r for sale. Mostly highway miles and light trails. Lady ridden. Will trade for wr250f or yz250x". "Don't low-ball me, I know what I have". Nice to see it being ridden hard.
I love mine ! It takes me through the intricate and dangerous trails of gridlocked cars here in London ! Maybe I’ll get her muddy some day... but it makes a nifty city bike too.
Yes I must agree with you there! I always enjoyed riding home after a bush bash. These days I drive to our meeting points as I try not to wear my tyre treads!!😊
Bought one. Learned to ride on it. Put a MT21 front/D606 back, ASV levers and 14/51 gearing on it. Ride it through desert, mountains, rivers, singletrack, sand/mud/snow/ice - no problem. Couldn't be happier. Started my own TH-cam channel (Temple of Dirt) dedicated to WR250R adventures.
Ha! Of course not! The good ol Husky, great bikes!! I must say I still miss the DR sometimes, but I definitely have way more fun on the mighty WR!! I love the gnarly stuff the most, but I plan to travel around Australia soon, so I'll probably do a little more Adventure riding!😊
Surprisingly I get up most...but not always on the first go! The last hill in the video was at Coffs, out of 9 riders only 4 of us made it, the rest got an Ace rider to do it on their bikes!!! What a day that was!!!😊
Classic vid, love it. Also love my WR250R and have done 15,000 km in past 2 years. I Started doing rougher stuff like in your video so just bought a 2015 Husky FE501. Mate it’s an impressive beast and love it too. But I can’t let go of the WRR so keeping it for longer Adventure rides etc, and using the Husky for enduro rides. Ask Yamaha for a 450F instead of 250F as you will enjoy the jump in power and still way lighter than the 250R. Cheers
I buy my cable ties in bags of 1000 pcs....and love my WR, but I am not a fast rider being 54, I use the WR as a ADV bike and surprise my mates on DRZ400's.
Nice little bike, almost makes me want to buy one. I definitely considered it but ended up with a Kato 500 EXC. A little bit lighter and a bit more power, but the servicing intervals could be longer
Part of me wants to scream "For the love of God man, stand up!" to you and the other riders. Then the other part of me chimes in with "They're riding pretty gnarly -- you haven't done that yet" :D :D Nice short review on a beloved bike. I really like mine (2015).
Ha!! I'm too lazy to stand!! Hopefully with my new suspension she might be a little more tamer when climbing the gnarly hills & I can stand up without being thrown off!!🤞🤣👍
Holding your breath waiting for a new 250F from Yamaha could be more hazardous to your health than some of those trails Wayno🤣 It might be worth doing something about that crushed radiator pipe if you want the mighty 250 donk to remain 'mighty'! You even managed to weave your comedy genius through a bike review... nice work old mate👍
I can only hope Shane-O my old mate!!! Yes I'll get around to fixing it, come to think of it, I failed to say in the video it's my second radiator! lol
Probably the best all round dirt bike ever built...and they are going to be "discontinued" Artist Wayne Dowsent HAS to be on the development team for it's replacement!
Woweee, could be a new job on the horizon with Yamaha with an endorsement like that! From the one & only Mighty Mick Strong!!😉👍 Hope you're doing well buddy!😁
great review!! you tried upsizing the rear sprocket? I run 48 and its been all gains and no loss. Noone could accuse you of not committing when ascending those hills. That is half the battle. Be timid and you will find yourself off the side of the trail watching the other riders make it to the top.
Wayne...U.S. follower for a long time and DR650/DRZ400 owner. Great vid and I saw you migrated from the DR to this WR and changed things up as you went more single track. As a large guy (tall/athletic) I went with the DRZ for more displacement but I keep lusting for the WR. Still not sold on a true enduro for how I ride. Any basic guidance? Enjoy the DrZ and call it a day?...or is there magic I'm missing in the WR? THX
That's a tough one mate! I loved my DR, but in the end it was just too hard to do the rides I was gravitating to. I'll be honest, the WR holds it's own doing the singles & gnarly hill climbs with the enduro bikes, but it does cop a bit of a hiding along the way. The advantage I would say it has over the DRZ is it has an extra gear (pretty sure that's correct?) & it's fuel injected. I still Adventure ride my WR but it's certainly not a bike you want to do long stints on, neither was my DR for that matter. At the end of the day I'd suggest getting your hands on a WR & see how it fits, my wife actually bough one & I rode it home through the bush for her & instantly fell in love with it! Hope this helps you buddy, both are fantastic bikes, actually let's include the mighty 650 in there as well, funnily I preferred that to riding a DRZ!
Thanks man. You get it, weight and nimble vs not. Sounds like I need to press my DRZ more to failure like you have with your WR to make a full eval. The DR is just so solid for touring my style, I can't let it go. It's just too heavy for my riding where I do in the hills of the appalachains. Thanks again for the responses and inspiration mate. Keep em' coming.
@@WayneDowsent '18 250 Camo. Sold it to "upgrade" to YZ250FX, then CRF450X. Sick of the fixes and issues, going back to the KLX very soon. Had more fun on that even if it wasnt proper enduro like u said
