    Thank you so much for this. I found out in January of this year that I have Diabetes2 and have kidney disease with a eGFR of 66, also had a potassium of 6 with A1C at 9.3. I had a heart attack 7 years ago so this high potassium thing scares. They redrew the potassium 2 days later and it was in the normal range. But I chose the side of caution and have been writing everything I eat in a notebook and making sure I don’t go over the 2000 a day limit of potassium on myself. So far so good. I go back in late April to have it all redrawn again. I also eat plantbased, low fat, high carb, and do not use salt, oil, nor sugar. Hoping and praying I can reverse this diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease and heart disease. My chron’s disease is already in remission!! 🙏

      Can't tell by your name if you are a male or female?? I would like to know who I am talking too.. brother Harvey here.. Yes you can get rid of diabetes 1 or 2 weather your on insulin or not... Keep taking meds till numbers come down.. I was a type 2 as well, for 15 yrs untreated.. 2015 doctor told me I am diabetic. Doctor gave me metformin, never took it..In 2016 or 2017 a new doctor in new town told me I was diabetic, gave me metformin, never took it.. I started in 2017 to eat only vegetables with 5.oz,s rotisserie chicken from Walmart, all weighed out. Was gulping down 4 & 5 fruit servings a day, was eating bean & cheese burritos 3 times a month.,, Also I started walking as fast as i could walk in the 4 miles, steps 10,678. Walks are three days a week even if it rains, I am going.. I walk up & down hills, nothing flat at all... Mostly veggies and the 5.oz chicken in veggie soup. After a short time the diabetes was NO MORE, The doctor said... I still have bananas half yellow and half green, always Organic, so when I was told officially about diabetes, I never gave up any fruit choices.. I continue to eat what God gave me to eat, Bananas, strawberries, Mandarins, Ruby red grapefruits, Red large Grapes 🍇🍇... Avocados 🥑🥑🥑🥑 ,,. Honeydew melons,, watermelon 🍉🍉🍉, Blackberries, Blueberries, Cashews raw unsalted, Almonds, Walnuts, other mixed unsalted nuts & seeds. I am still doing good, have not been to the doctor in 2 yrs.. Going to do a blood test after I loose the last 30 lbs to go.. I was 242 lbs. Then 235 lbs for 5 yrs , now I am around 165 lbs, shooting for 145 lbs, where I was at when I was 23.. working on spare tire that's almost gone & the chest & in-between those..most of my fat was an is in that area...Get a SMART HEALTH WATCH to monitor pulse & Steps Taken & time.. keep record of every bite you eat and what you eat & your hikes along with start & end time, steps taken, TOTLE hike time. Take water & drink some every 40 mins.. Take rolled oats & mandarin for a lunch..Practice holding in stomach when walking...that will actually work on chest & stomach at the same time, look on internet for butt exercises & stretching exercises. Remember, the healthiest & longest living people,. Do Not Go To A Gym Or Pump Iron, and those are CENTENARIANS, those are people who live into the hundreds while they still play with the grandkids.. CENTENARIANS all live in the BLUE ZONES, and there are Only 5 places in the world 🌎 that are BLUE ZONES, Google BLUE ZONE COOKBOOK , and Google two doctors that are to must have, DR ESSELSTYN, he is all about feeding the body, and he has two books out...and Google DR ALAN GOLDHAMER, he is 40 yr expert in nutrition & fasting & intermittent fasting. These two guys have been a blessing to me and many others..DR GOLDHAMER has a fasting & refeeding clinic with a team of Doctors to monitor all patients while doing more then 5 day fasts while at the clinic, it's a large apartment building like place..

I must watch this video again to understand of the potassium cell inner vs. outer. Then, I can ask my Nephrologist more questions. I'm noticing that these doctors aren't volunteering information for your health, you have to know what your asking, as if having kidney failure is so normal. I exercise a lot and worry about electrolytes I may need while doing so. Most of them have potassium which I try to avoid. I have found a stable diet where I eat most everything but with low frequency for high potassium foods. I also use Veltassa to keep my potassium level under control. I have been very stable for years now. How does it work? I assume potassium is released through my sweating as well as magnesium and sodium. Do I replace that potassium as anybody would by using these commonly used electrolytes? Or do I use one with no potassium at all? Thank you for your help on this.

    Great chat filled with alot of info. I was just hit with a bomb, my recent lab shows my eGFR at 57 low and 66 high, my potassium at 4.7, Creatnine at 1.28. I met with a dietician who said I can consume potassium but not to exceed 2000 mg per day. Just trying to get a second opinion. Your thoughts, thanks. James

      I would think that you’d also want to run that advice by your nephrologist. I erred on the side of caution, limiting my potassium intake to under 2,000-mg daily and after two months, my BP had skyrocketed from 100-110/60-70 to 160+/90! A subsequent blood test showed my potassium level dropped to 3.3! Once I added back in more dietary potassium, my BP quickly returned to normal. But I hasten to add that while doing so, I made sure to keep dietary sodium to around 1,000-mg daily. A potassium to sodium ratio at least 2:1 is normally considered vital to maintaining your BP. But don’t self-experiment: make such changes after receiving medical advice.

    I’m worried because my husband has CKD Stage 3A and also has been limited to under 2,000 mg of dietary potassium daily. He’s noticed that his blood pressure, historically about 110/66 for years, has just started to climb over the past two weeks. Ditto for his pulse. My question is this: I know that his lower intake of potassium can lead to a rise in blood pressure over time and if so, what can interventions can be done to bring his blood pressure back down? Thank you so much.

    • @PlantBasedKidneyHealth
      @PlantBasedKidneyHealth  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You will want to talk with his doctor and renal dietitian to make sure that he needs such a tight potassium restricted diet. Potassium is beneficial for lowering blood pressure and often times people in earlier stages of kidney disease with normal potassium blood levels have no potassium restriction in their diet.

      Got my potassium down in a week and a half due to diet from 5.5 to 5. Wanted to take medicinal mushroom supplement, ie - Cordyceps, lion’s mane, shiitake, reishi & turkey tail, as they help pull out toxins from the body & help with liver & kidney function. Do your patients w/ hyperkalemia have good or bad experiences taking these functional foods? I’m hesitant, because they say mushrooms are high in potassium, but I don’t know if these medicinal mushroom supplements have an effect on the body’s potassium levels. Thanks!

    So, at 8:30, are ACE inhibitors good or bad, reduce or increase, potassium in the blood? Unclear, as you only say that they're common medications.

    • @PlantBasedKidneyHealth
      @PlantBasedKidneyHealth  ปีที่แล้ว

      ACE inhibitors are one of the preferred blood pressure medications for people with CKD. They can raise blood potassium levels, so that has so be considered/monitored when a person is prescribed it depending on the stage of CKD they have.

    • @PlantBasedKidneyHealth
      @PlantBasedKidneyHealth  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would depend on the person and blood potassium levels. If someone with CKD (especially stage 1-3) has normal blood potassium levels, there is no reason for them to restrict potassium. However, it is important to get variety/diversity of different foods in the diet vs getting most/all potassium from just one food. We always recommend working 1:1 with a renal dietitian so they can assess your intake and needs and make individualized recommendations!
