Lived in Bishop for 12 years (80's-90's) and only experienced serious snow about three times. 4300 ft elevation. We would have loved what's goin' on these days!
Snow like I remember growing up in Bishop. Funny, Barlow Lane didn't exist to the right off 395, when I lived around the corner from you on Lazy A. When Lazy A Drive went straight out to 395 and the Chevron Station was on the corner with Safeway. The houses on Bear Creek were just beginning to be built. Those houses you are at were cattle fields, where we spent our free time riding bikes, fishing the canals and hunting rabbits and quail. Thanks for the views.
So was I. I was expecting a winter season akin to last year's; what I've seen at Mammoth Lakes and now Bishop has caused me to reconsider my plans and maybe go _next_ month. I didn't buy tire chains this year and I don't wanna get caught needing them to get from Bishop to Reno.
thanks for the video. i had no idea bishop proper got snow. way up i imagined they did. what a year! can't wait for my next road trip up there. everyone stay safe! mono city hang on.
Friend who works at Ken's sporting goods said Bridgeport received two feet of snow Friday night the 24th. That's bonkers! I've car camped many nights at Buckeye and Travertine in zero degrees temps. Always slept solid.
Actually it is here too. We have gotten down to -8 degrees at times and just 35 miles up Hwy 395 is the town of Mammoth Lakes with 11 foot high walls of snow along the roads in town.
Them's _old_ days too. When my family owned a condo and cabin in Mammoth Lakes in the early 70s I remember several occasions when we had snow on the desert floor all the way from Palmdale or Cajon Pass to Bishop. Been 50 years since I've seen snow like this in Owens Valley or in Mammoth Lakes. I was supposed to take a road trip to SoCal this month, with US-395 and Mammoth Lakes on the itinerary. I may have to put that off a month because I didn't buy snow chains this year. Don't wanna be told to turn around.
Mammoth has now stated they are over the 600 inch mark for the season and this is such good news. Hoping in the very near future they find a way to store more of this water they get from the valley when we have years like this rather than letting the water flow into the ocean. record snow fall is like 3ft so this is nothing--used to see this all the time--probably be like this more in the years to come--big pine record is over 40 inches--it always in cycles
@@thechevykibs I lived in Long Beach CA in 1969 and that winter has stuck in my memory all my life. Not just the snow but the endless mudslides throughout the foothills of the San Gabriel and San Bernardino Mountains. Watched entire houses just get picked up by cascading water and dumped into raging rivers which were normally creeks.
Cool - was expecting that storm to blow our way in Santa Fe but doesn't look like we will get that much snow - $4.89 for gas - wow that is $2 more per gallon than here - glad I no longer live in LA
I had that sign custom made at a local shop, Alpine Signs, about 20 years ago. They liked it so much that they began producing and selling the US 395 signs in their store and online and they were a big hit. Alpine Signs has since moved out of Bishop and they are now located in Montana. You could do a web search if you're interested, they have a website, and they may still have some for sale.
Wow. Interesting, I used to drive by that shop many times and finally stopped in and bought that 395 sign. It’s hanging in my garage. Glad you had them make it. Was wondering what happened to that shop. Great video btw!
Wish I was there, love Bishop!!!

Caltrans is going to come knocking on your door for that missing Route 395 sign in your garage.
Nice! Thanks for sharing.

You're right, Meadow Creek as the housing track is called wasn't built until 1984.
Wow... Much different than what I've experienced in my visits to Bishop! 73!
we were thinking of visiting in march but i think i will wait 😅😅😅.
LOL!!!

Thanks for your comment. Yes, Bishop does get snow. In the Winter of 1968-69 four feet of snow fell in one night!

Bishop or Fairbanks? Looks the same to me. :/
I have friends in Fairbanks and I think they would agree with you.

Good video, Mike! Chalfant didn't get that much, thank god. Highway 6 was a nightmare tho. Make it stop, OK?

$4.44 on the nearby Rez gas station.
Did it dump more on Saturday and Sunday?
No, it was mostly clear, but it is snowing again today in the OwenValley and really dumping snow in Mammoth.

@@sidfrench3798 Thank you, the Alpine Signs gut did a lot research to find the exact typeface used on California US 395 signs before he made mine.
