I STILL Miss Jackie Welles

- Going back and playing Cyberpunk is almost imperative to your gaming journey. Unfortunately, if you forgot about the beginning of the game, you're in for a gutwrenching reality check.

I always think of him when I go to V's apartment, seeing that food stand just hits hard, miss you choom
Someone should open a food stand that looks just like it
You can call him periodically throughout the game once he’s gone and leave him voice mails, updating him on how things have been since he died. Heartbreaking stuff, but that’s Cyberpunk all over. Nobody ever makes it out in one piece.
youre hitting the algorithm with this one choom, I feel it
Funny cause i was planning on leaving this one in the drafts 😂
He did and im here for it
hit mine :)
He’s hitting my heart with this one. 💔
He certainly did he's in my recommended
Did not think I’d care about him from the opening but dude I was obsessed with going to go to Mama Welles and doing her side quest for him. And driving around on his bike? PEAK
They just fleshed the character out too well
I even had Mama Welles bury the hatchet and bond with Misty…Misty might not have been so grateful for this afterward though😂
i've known the guy for a just a few hours but i'd die for him 😔
Id give up going to the big leagues for jackie 😢
Jackie was a genuine dude who loved his Momma.
One of the rare game moments I've ever cried at was both Jackie's death scene, and the funeral scene where everyone was talking about him.
Facts bro. This game in general had me immersed and cutting up onions. I didn't get so spoiled, and I played corpo male v. Shit had me crying. My bro died on me. Now when I play the game, I don't say as much, because I'd rather not say acting anything at all them be a dick to Jackie.
Do a run and send him to Victor. It's heartbreaking what happens but OMG is this the GOAT open world singleplayer RPG of the decade. BG3 and Elden Ring the only other games that can content, but are also both multiplayer.
I found out you can still call his number, where V will talk to Jackie, like the side characters does to V in the suicide ending.
The line I hear, around the end of the game before the final mission, made it sound like depending on where you are in the story, each voice line sounds like a stage of grife: One going something like "this is stupied, why am I calling you", another one going, "This is it Jackie one final score, thanks for everything". I cryed when I tryed to call him up 😢😭
One thing cyberpunk has taught me is that all the fun good guys end up dead
And dont get me started on edgerunners 😭
Nah they did us FOUL with edgerunners
[SPOILER]
Maine's death fr broke me so hard bruh i still cant recover when hearing the song that played during his death
edgerunners taught me EVERYONE ends up dead 😭
If you read any of the books or stores of night city there is no happy ending.
But a vast majority of the people that are coming into this game aren't aware of that.
Jackie and the fate of the character is a well-done pivot point of showing the hopes the dreams and the sole crushing heartbreak that is night city.
What allows cyberpunk to be able to work as a game. The Ever-present antagonist your drug of choice The lurking shadow and warmth. Is that city....
Walking by the food card in the front of your apartment... Sifting through his storage locker as you pick items for the funeral.
The city consumed him just like it will consume you and everyone else...
I absolutely adore jackie as a character. He definitely works very well as the proverbial plunge into the ice water of the world.
But my favorite character that ever looming presents will always be the city. It stands with the ever looming promise of everything and nothing... With a silence that's almost defining.
What books should we read? Deffo wanna look into that
@WegotSkillIssues It's really hard to suggest a book.. I Enjoyed Neuromancer.
Honestly, I feel like some of the best stories are in the table top game itself where all of it originated from.
Great example of this is black hand. I don't think silver hands Memory of the towers is the reality of how it played out. I have no doubt that there is probably people on this very website that agree with me on this theory.
I'll just say silverhand is not a very reliable narrator. The Game does a really good job of making the player forget that johnny silverhand is not the person that you're talking to and interacting with in the game that's stuck in your head. It's a copy of him He is a close proximity or recollection of him , but it's not him.
There's a game of 4d chess that's being played through the game that even arasaka himself has fallen into And they're all including your character just a pon.
But look up black hand it's the avatar for the original creator of cyberpunk. When you parallel out with the actual game it's mind blowing how good the writing is.
Frankly, its a pretty boring way to write a story.
at his funeral i offered the book. Its not just something he was reading recently, but its something he read every time he did a job and knowing the book itself honestly feels important to his character as well. Especially when you hear the story of the first time jackie almost died. The quote V uses from the book is "When you go to war as a boy you have a great illusion of immortality. Other people get killed, not you. But when you are badly wounded for the first time, you lose that illusion, and you know it can happen to you"
When jackie was still in the valentinos he got shot in the chest and was basically on life support, when his mom finally was able to see him he looked at her and smiled, claiming "Ma look, im bullet proof" Jackie didnt really believe that, but wanted everyone else to think the illusion was real. Because if everyone else believed it was real than maybe he could as well. Jackie knew he was likely going to die on this mission, either before, or soon after. Night city doesnt let success stories happen for long and he was well aware his death was a matter of when, rather than if. Which is why to me him continuing to follow his dreams and go out of his way to care for others rather than himself is so much more admirable. He mentions all his brothers are dead and he could easily use that as an excuse to slow down and be there for his mom, run the coyote with her and simply live life. But he doesnt. He doesnt let anything stop him. he knows he can die and reminds himself of that before every job because it keeps him in check, and his happy go lucky attitude about life doesnt come from a place of ignorance or ego, but from a place of love. Which is also where i feel the fact that his drink at the afterlife has "A splash of love" added is so fitting
I can get that, but I always choose the belt. From a latin family and having the full family lore, the relationship between him and his father 100% hit home for me.
They made Jackie and Mama Welles feel like V's adopted family. I wish we got more with both of them; time, missions, calls, and all
More content with her would've been great, she was a fantastic character. Honestly, Mama Welles being omitted from the-
(spoilers maybe?)
phantom liberty ending felt kinda wrong to me. You get a number of people to call about the time skip, but she's not among them, and we don't hear what, if anything, happened to her. One of the gangers that bother V in that ending can mention that el coyote cojo is gone, so it's a bad sign... But if she were _gone_ gone, it wouldn't be like her contact info would be wiped from V's list. We'd get a disconnected number just like Jackie. Though, if she could answer, she'd probably be *pissed* that V disappeared for two years, but V would (in most playthroughs) always still be family to her regardless.
Corpo v is pretty good too. Cause they got to know each other longer. Specifically you and him meet years back during a job with the cartel.
@@hamburgerhelpers3896 I played corpo V the first time and the transition to crimelord felt a bit more "dynamic". I just love that they found a way to translate that to the players
Honestly this! With Corpo V and Jackie, their relationship isn’t just that of long time friends, but that of Jackie saving V’s life during whatever the Mexico job was which kicks off your relationship. Corpo V and Jackie relationship is a friendship built off of Jackie saving V, and at every turn that is what happens. From the Mexico job to Jackie keeping you from being zeroed by the Arasaka hit squad to him giving you the relic. Every step of the way Jackie has saved V. It’s such a weird dynamic that neither the nomad nor the street kid have with Jackie, and I feel it gives the relationship with Jackie so much more emotion than the other life paths can even try to give. Hell you get this with the funeral quest where V will talk about how Jackie has constantly saved their life over the years.
Yeah after playing corpo V myself, the relationship they have under corpo V just makes things hit harder when they need to.
I unironically think about him relatively often in day to day life, truly left an impact on me
New vid comes out soon. "Impact" is the literal main theme lol. Hope you like neon genesis evangelion 😉
I played this game for the first time in my native language. When I first saw Jackie, my immediate thought was - god damn it, he looks identical to my father - facial structure, skin texture, the hairstyle minus the bun on the top. In polish version he has a silimar voice to my father. His mannerisms are identical to my father. The way he talks about grabbing something to eat or convinces the police officer to let us into Watson is identical to the way my father behaves. His awful jokes and his laugh are so similar to my father. I was crying like a baby after the heist mission, only to find out during the ofrenda mission that Jackie also loved his motorcycle, has his mancave-garage and a stash of his favourite beer always ready. At that point I started to think of my father was secretly involved in the creation of this game cause him and Jackie literally are the same. I will always love and cherish this man just because of these similarities and I'm not sure if I would be able to replay cyberpunk after the death of my father...
Lol i misread this comment the first time and thought you meant your dad had already died 😭 but either way I love that video games can bring out stuff like this in people! Keep playing.
Corpo v and Jackie felt thy best for me. You already knew Jackie for some time and even had to rely on him for an op. That's why when V says Jackie was his best friend, he really meant that shit. Bro saved his life twice, did of not 3 times. Could've blackmailed V, but he didn't, even though he is a Corpo.
i love this vid. i feel the same way about jackie - i got out the cab after he died and just sobbed for a while cause it was so sad and i felt so attached to him. ;-; i missed him throughout the rest of the main story right till the ending.
another gut wrenching thing is that misty mentions that jackie and her had an argument just before the heist that was never resolved... which means misty never got a chance to make up with jackie. that reallyyyy hurt to hear. i remember playing through the heist feeling like jackie's mood was a bit *off* and then i connected the dots after the misty interaction. knife through the heart man
Like at least give us a few more missions with him wtfff 😭😭😭
Genuinely the only flaw with Jackie is how little time we got with him. I would KILL for a dlc which is just an hour or 2 of missions with Jackie
fun fact: if you call Jackie's number after his funeral you can leave a message to him. at the end V even remarks that they may be going insane
Jackie was and is the ultimate choom. A true ride or die in NC. Can't believe you only have 86 subscribers. Definitely deserve much more
I always call Jackie’s phone before going through an ending. Iykyk, but it always brings on the feels. I lost like that before, and I still talk to them like that, never left me.
Its so sad leaving the voicemail for him 🫠
The only item that never left my inventory was the Jackie Welles...
Also the first time you call Jackie’s phone after Konpeki you get a couple of lines of dialogue from V to Jackie and I think it’s really sweet and sad, cuz I know I’d do the same thing. Every play through I start now I always do it.
Jackie was just a genuine guy who wanted be the greatest version of himself, and he wasnt afraid to love and live life to the fullest...
Corpos like my V don’t got a lot of friends…Jackie was something else. Too good for NC. Too real for our timeline
I once saw an ad where old man Jackie Wells asks you who you’re gonna be and I got so sad and happy at the idea that he could’ve lived to be old.
1:42 Ah yes, Edgerunners. There's no better way to make a grown man cry tears of absolute sorrow.
Plus, that song still almost moves me to tears whenever I hear it.
As a bartender i immediately recognised his drink as the Moscow Mule. After his death i remembered the story behind how the drink was made. 2 Random people coming together to combine their mistakes to create something great. Don't remember how the story behind the people who created the moscow mule ends but the similarity betwen the story and V and Jackies Friendship shows how good the writing is. Dont know if it was intentional or not, but its the little things like these that make me appreciate the game and its story.
i normally don't click on the randomized low-view videos that youtube forces into my recommended, but goddamn i couldn't leave this one unwatched. The cold open of the game, and the entirety of act 1 had me so attached so fast. CDPR writes companion characters *so* well. We needed more Mama Welles and Misty related gigs in act 2 IMO
@@crow-perch Right? Like ill take FETCH quests at this point 😂
I hated Dex so much after not saying anything like "how is Jackie?" He just started blaming V and Jackie, didn't help he betrayed V like 3 seconds later.
I wish CPDR would have added in more content with Jackie when they did that 2.0 update.
I got attached to Jackie the MOMENT I saw him, he's perfect I'm in love with him, I spend the whole game thinking Jackie would love this or Jackie would hate this, when I crash his bike I have to say sorry to Jackie LMAO. When I called his number after he died (without knowing there would be dialogue on the phone to "talk" to him) it actually made me so teary eyed! He's such a cool looking fun loving handsome guy I adore him! my favourite bestie I've ever had
BRUH AHAHAHAHA
You need to go outside
@@mwivy_ And you need to grow some human emotions, you bitter thing
Starfield: kill off npc you choose as love intrest, no one cares.
Cyberpunk: kills of npc you meet in tutorial and know for maybe 3 hours.
I.
Fucking.
Cried.
It's a testament to the talent of the writing team, and the voice actor, that a character with just a couple of hours of screen time can leave such a lasting impact.
Damn yeo Jackie really felt like a persona social link with the music😂😂
I had to stop a few times because of Jackie's death. I didn't spend much time with him, but the time I did spend I loved. He was great, it was great to be around him, he felt so human and genuine amongst the hell of Night City.
Using the Persona 5 Music really made this sadder. The fact the everyone I know that played this game, all wished for more time with Jackie means he was a very well executed character. The only other character I really connected with besides Johnny was Panam. The whole family and nomad dynamic just felt fitting.
You're absolutly right. Also the hat is surprisingly fitting for NC.
The hat protects me from the true horrors of night city
I loved Jackie in the short time we knew him he was truly the homie
I still wish that sequence where we’re doing missions with Jackie wasn’t just a montage cutscene, I think it legitimately takes away the building up the characters we could have done there.
Almost completed my first playthrough of cyberpunk and yeah, this hit hard. Gone too soon, i also miss jackie. Great video man:)
Lol I had to pause the game after the heist!
@@WegotSkillIssues same
Always love when a small channel squeezes its way into the algorithm
This video is preem choom, serious chops to you!
Look forward to seeing what else you got
I remember thinking Jackie was a little annoying my first playthrough, the way he kept making jokes during the failed heist felt immature, but then when he died 5 mins later, I viewed it as a loss of innocence almost. Bro just wanted to make it out of The Glen, and V ended up going so much farther in Night City because of Jackie’s sacrifice and him keeping the Relic safe until his death. Rip Jackie
I drink to Jackie before every big gig in the game.
He feels so much like a real friend, the kinda person you always really want in your corner.
Being given an option to go to the Jackster's funeral, to call him on the phone even though you know he can't answer anymore, visit his spot in the Columbarium...
That makes it feel so much more REAL, you know? Loss hits harder when you get to live in the after, when it's not just an off button, but a reality you have to live in where you're reminded of all the places he used to be, and the way you'll never hear him crack his corny ass jokes again
Honestly, a Jackie expansion would genuinely make this game fucking HEARTWRENCHING-
being able to actually go on a small pool of gigs with him in Watson, stop by restaurants and eat, help him or misty plan a date or something
that would be genuinely life changing
The most heartwarming detail about Jackie is that even split between three timelines, he and V find each other and become best friends
Still pouring a jackie wells to this day brother. Best choom you could ask for
This video encapsulates how much I love this game, its character development, the world, the gameplay, how you can always find something new from your last play through. Great video bro!
I still miss Evelyn Parker 😢
Oooooo thats definely one id wanna cover. Itll be a while but ill add that to the list
jackie was awesome bruh and i somehow missed the fact that his death had been known about for a long ass time before the game came out so i was actually surprised when he died
Great vid bro. I loved Jackie and the only times I cried in the past year were for him and Evelyn my beloved 😭🙏🏻
So glad I'm not the only one who is still stuck to this game like a glue trap. When everyone was hating on it when it came out, there was always such an amazing game under the issues, even before the dlc. There will always be my favorite classic games from back in the day, but by far, my favorites of the times will always be Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur's Gate 3. Games made with pure passion, pure devotion, and an obvious love for what games can really do when it comes to story, characters, and making a place for players in their worlds. No games have stuck with me more than those two, feels like an understatement just saying it.
Dude same! I felt like i was being delusional this game NEVER had a bad taste to me. And ima just consider the bugs as a "you just had to be there" moment
Right there with you, man. I like Jackie, but I want more time with him. A few side quests with him in the start would've been really strong.
Id love to see more of your vids on Cyberpunk. very informative and relaxing. Youve just earned my sub dude.
I miss him bros.... SEE YA IN THE BIG LEAGUES 😿
@@iaidobotanist8281 😿
There wasn't enough Cyberpunk for Cyberpunk to Cyberpunk. Bunk :(
Worst thing CDPR did was show Jackies demise IN A TRAILER, just hours before launch. I had set up a PS4 with 27" Monitor for my mate, a Gaming Laptop for my daughter and me on my PC for a midnight launch and I literally screamed at the screen -You can't Kill Jackie....WE HAVEN'T EVEN MET HIM YET!
I was gutted.
Dude no they weren't stupid they knew that they if didn't show it in the trailer it would get them slammed when the game actually started. They weren't stupid they knew that people would get attached to him and they wanted the spoiler to be out there so that you understood don't have the expectation that he's always going to be there because it's going to die and that's going to be your incentive to get revenge.
@@christyshultz6443 hmmm maybe. I get that, but it was odd to show it so late IMO. And I don't see how it's a vengeance story at all though. Apart from the funeral, he's mentioned as a lost friend, not a murdered compadre retribution arc.
I'd play any mod with him in for sure and hammer any vengeance route though.
16:44 He kept his eyes open... just like you told him...😢
Jackie was probably one of the first npc characters that i genuinely wished had swapped places with my character. He had so much to live for i felt compared to V at least my version of V. I started as a nomad but i saw all the people he meant alot to at his afrunda and i felt fate picked cruelly. This hit harder later in the game when you can call jackie’s phone and monologue to him.and as i looked out into night city i realized that jackie was the real legend by the end of the game. In his short time he made more of an impact on the people around him then my v ever did. As he said death was just his finial flourish.
He was the best choom around long live Jackie
really wish we could've gotten so much more time with jackie but it is crazy that how despite how short of time you actually get in game with him, how big of an impression he leaves on the player
great vid, glad youtube recommended it to me. earned a sub! :)
Jackie was a throwaway character, yet he is my most favourite character in the whole game.
Jackie wasn’t a choom, he was THE choom. I lack the words to describe my feelings properly, and even tho we had him for only a short time, and would love to be able to spend more time with him, every second with him was worth it. I can only agree, I miss Jackie. If it wasn’t for you, we would’ve never had this journey.
Rest in peace choom, see you in the big leagues.
This video is a gift from the algorithm gods. All I wish is that we had spent more time with Jackie. It breaks my heart when you see him close to the end at the soulkiller place. He reminds me a lot of a real life friend I had, but due to a number of reasons we don't speak anymore. We had good times though, and I remember him fondly, he was my Jackie.
Never have I so badly wanted too spend more time with a video game companion
I'm glad others miss Jackie as much as I do.
I started as a street kid on my first play, and when Jackie offered to take you to get some of his momma's chili, I remember thinking, "Oh, I guess we are homies now?" So I went along with it.
I wanted so badly for there to be an expansion or something to Cyperpunk where it was just reliving missions done with Jackie. Like Jackie has a journal, and as we read it, we can play through some of the jobs it shows us during the first montage of scenes.
Hearing you basically describe my feelings back to me in this video is weird but cool.
Id love more videos like this from you❤❤❤
Jackie Welles might hands down be my favorite character from any game franchise
rest easy choom we miss you :’)
Really enjoyed this. Keep it up choom!
@@yumikalashnikov2634 see ya in the big leagues
Jackie dying was one thing, when his girlfriend tells you not to diminish him - that his softness was an act for the benefit of others and that he was actually ambitious and complex - we all both know that guy and are half that guy
We all miss him choom, the fact he died in the prologue is what makes it even more saddening.
I hate how he's even better than the only companion we get if we're straight women TvT
Fantastic essay; very well put.
I generally play Cyberpunk a lot, and Jackie’s death hits me in the gut every time. Almost to the point of just…deleting the save and trying to start again. Maybe this time I can save him.
I too still miss Jackie. When I first started the game, I also choose the Streetkid lifepath. The pair of us felt like a pair of fuck ups, trying to make it in the world. And it makes the end of it all the more sad.
“Okay game I have full healing items I can save him. What do you mean I don’t have the option?”
there are only two games that stuck with me this much, Cyberpunk where you basically miss all the characters and cry at all of their demises, and Signalis that just broke me to a pulp.
My first play through of this game was street kid, and my goodness, Jackie was awesome to play with.
would've been so cool if we got flash back side mission throughout the game where we are doing jobs with Jackie, that way the intro of the game stays short and sweet and we still get Jackie content, it'll make it all the more sadder doing those mission knowing that he'll die, but it'll also make us appreciate each second of those side missions more knowing how little time we have with him
My favorite thing that I did was play Corpo V. He knew Jackie the longest, even asking him to do a job. It honestly feels like a nicer connection to him than Streetkid V.
Both Jackie and Mysty are two genuine authentic people in the dog-eat-dog world. They're V's safe space. I wish we had more opportunities to spend time with them, especially Jackie.
Before this I loved the way the Maelstrom encounter was handled in the 48 minute demo. In that version, Jackie turns to V and explains sitting makes you an easy target, then Dum Dum grabs Jackie’s gun while distracted. It really highlights how clumsy Jackie can still be sometimes.
I REALLY love the idea that Jackie’s just being super cautious and wants to make sure everyone’s good.
RIP Big Jack you would’ve loved the Aldecaldos.
Anyway great video bro we’re hitting the major leagues with this one 💯🗣️🔥🔥🔥
How do we get so emotionally attached to Jackie Welles even though it’s like the intro sequence 😭
banger video. might run the game back for another play thru🤝🏽
Jackie Welles is the best! Genuinely cried when he passed.
im honored to have the same name as him. it also means i feel really attached to him. still miss you choom
I had Jackie for like an hour and a half of gameplay and I’m still not over it
This was a great video dude and Jackie was one of my favourite characters in 2077 would have loved to have spent more time with him
Same bro, same
the algorithm hit me with this right during my 3rd playthrough, the last scene with him in the delamain cab still hits just as hard as it did 4 years ago. pain.
My Jackie could not hit the broad side of a barn but had an excellent personality. Great talks with damn good companion.
Jackie Welles was much more than V's best friend, he was their brother
Same, I still miss the big choomba as well. No matter how many times I've played through it, I hate, hate, and hate that he has to die.
Jacket was actually the best friend more then the rest.
I really wish the game hadn't jumped forward just six months. Like imagine it starting in 2076 and you celebrate the new year with Jackie and his family and he says how this year is gonna be the year the two of you become legends. It gets V even closer to him and adds more of that foreshadowing.
great video thought you would have atleast 200k subs really reminded me of j1mmy
Im actually a big fan of nakeyjakey and internetpitstop!
Love the vid and I wont lie, your ending clip of that booth kind of hit hard....
Really did feel like the montage was something they put together because they knew they wouldn't have time to go into a proper prologue act. Always felt like Act 1 should have been from character intro to V's death, Act 2 should have been from your resurrection to meeting Alt, then Act 3 should have been from there to the end, with each of those having roughly the same amount of game time, maybe skewing towards act 1/2 more than 3.
I sobbed like a baby when Jackie died my first time through. Great video, choom. Hoping you take off with this one.
Street kid is cool but corpo is better because you are Jackie's actual friend from childhood and you get to be his man / gal on the inside. And he gets to be your guy on the street basically you both got it covered.😅
Nomad makes him your 1st friend in NC. His mom treats you like family after yours disbanded. Plus you get an iguana.
Same brother every time I think of cyberpunk I think of him
Yes I completely agree I wish so much of the beginning we could have actually played through and not just a montage cut scene I wish that whole beginning part was playable making the story longer and your time with Jackie longer would have been so tight
It seems one of the great messages of CP2077 is that a group that can call your own.family friends even just someone you respect is one of the few things that can keep you grounded keep you alive and keep you sane
