Before digital reverb processors, there were different ways.
The most natural was a large room, where you play the part you need reverbated over speakers and pick it up with microphones. When radio stations did live music, they sent the effect send to the station building and got it back.
Later the hall plates brought a good reverb and live musicians had the options of spring reverb or echo machine with short delay time.
Before reverb units, record companies added microphones to catch the recording room's reverbation separately.

Greetings . First of all congratulations for the channel !!! EXCELLENT !!! your work the one you are doing, I have an Onkyo Digital A-8800 with all the modules of the equipment are Onkyo which are an M504 amplifier sound, with an EQ540 Interga equalizer and another EQ-201 and another EQ-25 and another EQ-140 and one TA-2550 Interga and one TA-2750 Interga and one TA-205 Interga deck and another double deck TA-RW 909 . a CP1500F Interga platter and Ortofon 40 turntable needle and CD DX-708 Interga, and the T-4500 Interga radio, All the models are from the Onkyo brand, which is the best that Onkyo does NOT make mass production if they are not selected from the Onkyo And the cables connected to the equipment are of the KabelDirekt Pro Series RCA brand and 4 DAS R-212 Speakers. and 2 Mivoc hype 10 g2 hifi subwoofers, 300 w, from 20 to 180 hz. IN THE END A CLASSIC OF THE 80S AND 90S of sound equipment of that time, over the years I have never broken any module, that is already seen from how they worked before and the manufacturing materials, I hope to have it duarte, many years for the quality of a good musical team, greetings and very good videos that you have a great like for your great videos, great sound models like these devices are no longer manufactured, it is a pity, that nowadays everything is plastic, greetings from Barcelona - You could do one of Onkyo Interga also of Review - Congratulations to all Onkyo electronics, the Inegra Series was a true excellence. I bring you bad news, for this glorious brand, which made hifi history, these days, Sharp, who recently acquired the brand, announced that the debt is incurable. The electronic audio equipment company Onkyo has filed for bankruptcy, after accumulating debts of US$24 million. Onkyo, founded in Osaka in 1946 under the name "Osaka Denky Onkyo K.K", has failed to position its mainly analog equipment in the streaming era, consequently Onkyo has been declared bankrupt by the Onkyo company. Even if the electronics produced today had nothing to do with the wonderful electronics that it has... A big greeting from Barcelona, Spain,

Craig, your video on stylus cleaning was hugely informative and once again audiophile nonsense shattering - do you think you could do a similar video on the methods of cleaning records, using the microscope? Ie using isopropyl vs spin clean, and also different cloth types ie long vs shorter hair microfibre cloths? I sometimes wonder if I’m depositing hairs into the grooves, and while at first the clean will work, the newly deposited fibres will become etched into the record!
Or alternatively, do microfibre cloths with shorter fibres not reach as deeply into the records?
Does rinsing the record afterwards have a bigger impact when the stream of water directly hits the groove, or as long as some water runs over it is this just as effective at clearing leftover residue?
Just some ideas, I wonder if you also have your own!
Big fan, been watching you from my introduction the hobby three years ago - you are on of the reasons I can enjoy this hobby so much and find the middle ground between enjoying hi quality sounds, and not getting lost in a stream of over the top audiophile madness.
    Ian

@22:00 I invented large wooden 'effects' boxes in the year 2000 that were all analgous in nature, no electricity that emulated certain known effects, like Gated reverb. It was like the old time recording method of a big Horn in front of an orchestra.. generally but the boxes are much different and complex shapes inside the box that the microphone on the other side capture with the music performer on the other side- the sound passed through. .. so in essence, yes not really can get that sound in nature unless someone's ear canals were blocked in a certain shape 😂 They were as big as a couch. Did them all for a big art installation and got a grant for the designs.

    Boy, I learned something today!
Very interesting subject, ambience or spatiality in music is something I've always found way cool in music.
I have a Dared VP 845 83 pound 20 watt single end triode pure classs A tube amplifier, and a Cary 300 B set 8 watt pure class A amplifier driving Klipsch Cornwall mk3 103 db sensitivity speakers , these combinations are known for reproducing air or ambience, giving a 3d sound experience. I also use a Innuos Zenith mk 3 server/streamer into my Lampizator Lite 7 single end triode DAC, 24/396 PCM, or SACD or DSD 256, utilising pureclass A power tubes on the output stage, 2a3, 300b, 45, or 101 directly heated tubes or dht in my digital playback in addition to my VPI prime superscout turntable.
Jbtw that album was one I purchased in high school or just after graduation REO speedwagon in highfidelity, still have it today!
I didn't know this reverb subject, very good musical enhancement!
Thanks for sharing your experiences and knowledge, way cool!
    Keep us enlightened!

    Craig.
Thank you very very very much for doing your content. I love your contact.
Do you agree with me but if you've got a really good turntable, it will beat any CD player of a comparable price hands-down? I also have a marantz SX 72 scratch suppression piece of kit. Have you ever heard of One? It is supposed to get rid of the scratches and popple sounds of vinyl records. I am yet to hook it up, what is your opinion on this kind of stereo separates? Is the last couple of years I've started to play my vinyl record collection more than I play CDs and I tell you this vinyl sounds much better and more natural the CD.
I prefer the tactile nature of vinyl now. Your work on vinyl sleeves as much more superior the CD artwork. I have a Technics SL 1210 Mark 2. I bet you've heard of these decks haven't you? I consider I've got a half decent turntable. What say you?
I have just recorded onto my computer all of my Madonna True Blue album 12-inch singles and the album itself. I recorded it into audacity and did a bit of noise reduction and scratch audio repair removal with a bit of EQ to make it sound better and I'll tell you I'm completely blown away with the results. I have true blue on CD but my vinyl recording blows it out of the sky regards to quality stop the dynamic Headroom is much better on it and a frequency Headroom is a lot better on it as well. It just sounds so much better. I am now going back to vinyl and I'm glad I've rediscovered it. Vinyl is not just final it is beginning middle and end. Not mention final of course. As far as I'm concerned vinyl records are a person's best friend.
By the way can you do an audio recording on audacity or that reissue ACDC album plus the original album that you found in that collection full stop so we can hear the sound different so we can see it represented as a waveform on audacity? As like everybody else I would love to hear the difference.
Again Craig thank you very much for your TH-cam channel.
    Regards.
    Pure.

Craig, what about loop tape reverb units with a loop of tape a record head, 6 or 8 playback heads and an erase head.

These units, like the Roland Space Echo, combine several echoes and feed them back upon each other. This is called multi-tap delay. I have an analog delay unit which I modified to do something similar, and it almost sounds like reverb, but it's not true reverb. Also, some of those units, like the Space Echo also have spring reverb in them too, which when combined with the tape delay, can sound quite good, but still not like true reverb.

Been meaning to ask you Craig, what is the effect on In Another Land by The Rolling Stones. Starts at 10 seconds into the song, vocals sound like they are coming from underwater.

That is called Tremolo, and it's usually used on electric guitars. Most guitar amps have a knob for it.
