      @@noblebynature777 Do you have any IT Experience? Troubleshooting? Building machines etc? If not, you could take the CompTIA A+ course and exams, whilst you're studying for that apply for "1st line helpdesk" or similar names in your area, or even out of your area if it's remote.
      But for someone new to an IT support role I would try and get a job where you can work in the office at least a few days a week, because it's so much easier to learn things from other people when you're with them rather than trying to do it over teams or something.
      Source: i worked as a 1st line helpdesk engineer for around 3 years before the role I'm in now.

      @EastCharmer  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Glad the video is helpful for you! Goodluck with transitioning to the IT field and doing the IT certificate. I would say that IT is a good stepping stone if you wanna transition to tech but still not sure what you want to specialize in because it will expose you to different areas of tech like networking, cybersecurity, automation, software etc.
      For the computer setup, any machine with a processor of atleast 2.1 - 2.7 GHz would be enough, 8GB DDR4 RAM minimum, 256GB minimum harddrive, tho I would recommend atleast 500GB. for monitors , 24 inch would be ideal with resolution of 1920x 1080. And you would also need a webcam and microphone for meetings. (that should be all set if you're using a laptop)

    Is it possible to land a WFH help desk position as a newcomer to the field of IT? I’ve heard employers prefer to give WFH positions to people with experience, but I’d love to land a job working from home.

    • @EastCharmer
      @EastCharmer  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's possible depending on the role. there's roles like call center tech support where they answer phone calls about tech issues and open tickets and that can be WFH. Also depends on the industry. If it's a tech company where most of the users are working remotely, then it's also possible to WFH but if it's other industry where everyone works in the office, then they would want a person on site

    • @EastCharmer
      @EastCharmer  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Haha first of all we NEVER do coding interviews coz we're not Software developers. And IT always does something. IT keeps the company together and manage the systems and infrastructure that's why during the pandemic none of the IT people got laid off because who's gonna manage the servers and such? Do some fact-checking first

    • @EastCharmer
      @EastCharmer  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think just having the certs is not enough. But what you can do is to make home labs that demonstrate your skills and add that to your resume and you can also talk about it on your interviews. I did study a Bachelor's degree from my country and when I moved to the US that really didn't help me so I did the certs (A+, CCNA).
      Also, for entry level, Bachelor's degree is not really needed.

      Unfortunately it's harder to land remote IT jobs because IT has been more saturated recently compared to the shortage during the pandemic. Because of the WFH opportunities that started during the pandemic, more people are transitioning into Tech and it's been very competitive. Also, there's less Remote jobs now than during the pandemic because most offices now are back in the office or doing the Hybrid setup.

      Hello there!!! Glad you liked the video! It was fun making it. Ok so if you want to work remotely you can learn the skills that will enable you to work remote like more system administration, scripting, virtual machines and security. Those roles don't need to be working in the office because all the work can be done in the computer compared to doing hardware or user support or date center

       I live in Illinois too! I don’t know why but the other day something got into me and I thought what the hell am I doing with my life and I’ve started studying and watching videos etc. and came across this and it’s a wonderful basic introduction to what the job can be! Thank you for making the video! By the way, you said that this was your previous job, did you do this for a short while as an introduction to the field, and then move up into a higher position? Everything I’ve read so far says get a helpdesk position as fast as you can and work that as experience to get into a better position. It’s always something like get into a helpdesk position, after a couple years get into network administration, and then after a couple years work your way into Cybersecurity.

This 2nd role was a more complex role as I've done projects as well and not just user support. I was also exposed to different environment like Linux, VMs, Python scripts and did more networking and data center work. Yes. Work in Helpdesk for 1-2 yrs then get an admin role. Not necessarily network admin. It still depends on your interest. You can be Sys Admin, Server Admin, etc and follow a different path other than CyberSecurity. But yeah you got the idea to work your way up to be a specialist

      Hello Switzerland! ooohhh web is cool. Goodluck on your IT job! yeah that could be scary to encounter an issue that you've never seen before BUT we can always look into previous documentations from the company and also be resourceful online (like you can GOOGLE stuff) and also check the manual for installation etc. And it also help to narrow down the issue by asking very specific questions. And a lot of the troubleshooting method is trial and error so sometimes one solution may not be always the same for everyone. So keep trying different ways and methods.

      VPN telephone essentially allows you to call any phone number i.e any other businesses or users over the internet. It's essentially the replacement to the landline that you connect into the wall because that has basically become obsolete. You can do the exact same thing with a VOIP phone which is just a phone that uses the internet to make call alot of these VPN phone dont even need the actual physical phone you can actually install software on your computer that does the exact same thing as the physical phone she has on her desk, they usually call it a softphone. In this line of work you need to make a lot of phone calls to many different parts of the world sometimes.
