- Hello guys, welcome again
In this video, I'll show you How to Create Paper Cut Out Effect in
Adobe Illustrator.
For this tutorial you need a contour image, so you can download from the internet, or you can use the filter on Photoshop to produce basic contour effect as I do in the first step on this tutorial.
next step you bring the contour image to Illustrator, Trace it, give some nice color(you can pick colors pallet from internet ex: color.adobe.com), add drop shadow and finally make Clipping for the artwork to hiding the unneeded shadow.
so this is a simple tutorial, make it simple and awesome guys.

It's a great work!
But as I was trying it I am not getting the option of Posterize. What can be done?
I found there were some people who had the same problem.
there are two choices that you can possibly do.
1. Try doing it on an ordinary layer instead of a smart object layer like I did in the video, or
2. Give a posterize effect first, before giving a blur effect.
its available 2017 and above version,
i think.
U could update photoshop.
Sometimes filters are unavailable in certain modes. Be sure you're in RGB mode and not greyscale or CMYK (under image>mode)
I too had the same problem
simple solution - 1. Select eraser tool and click anywhere on layer, this wont erase anything
2. click ok in popup box
Done!
Very clear and instructive video. I love that you actually zoom in so that the name of the tools are legible. A lot of tutorials I've seen don't and you have to try to figure out what they selected to get a certain result.
Thanks Robb. 😁
thanks for this, didn't even think about clouds in photoshop.. I was usually drawing those shapes by myself, but this is way faster :D thanks you!
U're welcome
In the future I would recommend selecting all the artwork and using the 'Recolor Artwork' function, would be a little quicker at trading all the colors out, through I know you still need to select and group items.
Thank you Matthew, it is very helpful if you want to change colors quickly
FINALLY - This is something I've been looking for for ages. Thank you!
Jesus! I made this in photoshop but by drawing all the shapes... this is way easier! Thanks for the knowledge! Such a valuable lesson!
This is very very helpful, and I thought it was that complicated. And kudos to the creator, there isn/t a single confusion of the instructions you made.
Adding a little noise to it makes it more paper looking. Very good result, nice tut keep it up.
Thank you Angelos.
Great job! Cool visual and good editing.
Thank you Jean.
Clear and concise demo. Thanks.

Клево, прям так досконально шаг за шагом, лайк))
Thank you for the great tutorial =D
1:22 image, adjustments, posterize
Whenever I use "drop shadow" effect near the edge, make sure the work size is slightly bigger than your intended final dimensions and crop them later. Look at the shadows near top and left edges. They don't seem natural. The contour lines look stopped at the border, rather than continuous beyond it. Think of the opposite of the residual shadows he trimmed on bottom and right border
therefore at the end of the video I masking the artwork with the rectangle.
@@nobudesign yes. masking trimmed off excessive shadows at bottom and right borders. Zoom in and look at left and top borders at 9:16. Since thats where the planes are cut off, shadows toward bottom right start from there, leaving some gap between shadows and border. If the planes actually extended beyond the border and shadows cast from beyond, it wouldn't make the gap and therefore look more natural
Nice Harry,
Thank you for the advice. I really didn't realize it until I reopened the Ai file and understood what you meant. indeed it is good to make the size of artwork bigger than the desired size, so the shadow cut looks more natural.
or it can also make the masking area a little smaller than the artwork, then just adjust the desired size.
Thank you for this!
After setting the dropshadow, the clickbox of the foreground layer was very big and it was impossible to select the next layer below.
If you have the same problem, you can fix this by adjusting the shadow x- & y- to a smaller amount.
I can't stop bumping my head! Good choice in music
awesome
То чувство когда так уже делал, но за тебя выложили видео =)
Wow!
I cant posterize smart objects ?!
EDIT: OK, I had to add an adjustment layer from the right navigation panel (middle botton) instead from the menu.
Thanks!
great work bro
Thanks bro
You have earn a sub, my friend!
Thanks bro.
I really enjoyed
such a good video, really easy to understand =)
Awesome brother!
Nice and cool. Easy viewing
Lovely and Peaceful and relaxing for mind 😍
cek tutorial coreldraw th-cam.com/video/VGJVOaXG_S4/w-d-xo.html
@@AnekAgam Thanks, amazing tutorial. unfortunately i can't use Coreldarw on Mac!
It looked satisfying
mast
Great art work! Love it! 😍
Minus the drop shadow, you can get cool quick colors if you make the initial forms in black and white and then use a color overlay layer =)
Nice idea. 😁
@@nobudesign I like methods with less control sometimes. Though I need to up my game because you get a much more decisive result
So cool!!! and amazing tutorial, I love it.
Thanks Crusenho
Thanks! Amazing video!
Execellent
very beautiful ,i love it
Good Vibes, Bro!
First time i've seen something like this and i've got to say this was pretty genius. Love the topographical map feel to it. It also reminds me of those foam toys kids play with 10/10 for creativity, execution, ease, and a dope backfround song 👍
Thank you Daniel.
I know the topographic map effect in Photoshop from the Spoon Graphic Channel, maybe you know. He made a tutorial how to create contour map with photoshop and illustrator
Keren tehniknya. Cuman Klu bisa next tutor bkin shadownya vector supaya bisa upload di microstock
thanks bro, makasih juga atas sarannya, ane belom pernah main di microstok.
Nobu Design sip bro
Eh Orang Indonesia rupanya. Backsoundnya apa bro? enak buat temen kerja
Wow,so nice..thanks for teaching..
U're welcome
Great tutorial. Thank you very much man
Thanks laurent
I am so thankful that i run into your channel!
also, I noticed that when you did the cliping mask some shapes lost the shadow :/
Love This 👍
Perfect in all aspects!
Awesome technic thanks a lot
Thanks Nobu
This is probably the best tutorial i have seen too far. But the only thing bad about the tutorial is the tools that you used. There is many other options than this tools. But i can understand that as you are making tutorials for beginners. Keep up the good work
Thanks
This is great!! Thank you
Thanks for that fabulous tutorial ! :-)
How can we do when we don't have Photoshop ? Is it possible to get this kind of result only with Illustrator ?
just love you
The video is called Adobe Illustrator Tutorial but Adobe Photoshop was used in this video. Change the video name.
hi grate tutorials what is the full name of colour palate you used
Cool tutorial, but you are using PHOTOSHOP not Illustrator as described. You can't render cloud in Illustrator
Yes, I know not all the process in Illustrator, we need generate contour image in photoshop first then bring it to Illustrator.
😍😍 thanks a lot
U're Welcome.
대단해요!
so nice
Thanks
cool :)
Thanks
3:32 , can't you just use Edit Color options so that all the contour color will be adjusted accordingly ? It's seems faster.
My photoshop doesn't show the layers like that like the process you go through???? Help???
Make sure you convert the normal layer to smart object before you do all filter
I was at the end, but I can't find "image trace". Can I do it another way?
Adobe Illustrator
Window > Image trace
@@nobudesign There's no more option. Now it's called an image recalculation
@@mooonlight- I've no idea. What's version of Ai are you using?
Hey Nobu Design, thank you for this awesome tutorial! How did you get your color Theme appear above your image? I only can get it into my Libary.
prepare 5 rectangles, find the color scheme you want to use (go to coolors.co or color.adobecom) then sampling the color scheme one by one to the rectangles.
Remember it's not color swatches but only rectangles with fill color.
@@nobudesign I appreciate your answer! Thank you again for this awesome tutorial!
Can't get this cloud filter. Please help
Make sure you do the first step in Photoshop
If you can't apply cloud filter on smart object layer, try normal layer.
Where do you get the color palettes from? it was some website with the codes etc.
I got a color palette from color.adobe.com and coolors.co

This weird green glow keeps showing up in photoshop when I posterize?
Mine does not anywhere near as nice as this, my shadows make everything dark, even when i copied all your settings, i dont know whats going on, its too dark.
Just play with opacity
Hello! I'm having troubles adding the drop shaddow. When I add it to my artboard it appears to the low right part of the artboard. I have grouped all of my colors together.
do a clipping mask on your artwork to cover the shadow. check 08:32
it'll look like a birds eye view of a minecraft world if it was green
expand button is disabled for me
sir ap illustretor ka tutorial bata k photoshop ka tutorial bana rahe hani logon ko bewakof kyun bana rahe hain
How can you imagine doing something like that?
I got a paper cutout inspiration from Pinterest and I've seen a Spoon Graphics tutorial about How to make a contour map
th-cam.com/video/qU_u_7CPA40/w-d-xo.html
I want ask, when I will "posterize" why that can't be click ?
found there were some people who had the same problem. there are two choices that you can possibly do. 1. Try doing it on an ordinary layer instead of a smart object layer like I did in the video, or 2. Give a posterize effect first, before giving a blur effect.
Or you can check the pin comment on this video about this problem
How to make a shadow without drop shadow effect.
Shutterstock does not accept work with effects and raster.
add one layer below the original layer, give it a darker color then slide it down.
I think it will need more patience.
Anyone know of a way to create the original contour image without using Photoshop?
can please provide the source file too..?
I'm unable to select shapes as a group in illustrator
at which stage did you find the problem?

Good explain thank you mc. Admin
Hi! Does anybody know how to add "thickness effect" for such kind of "paper layers"? Thanks.
Not sure what you mean?
Cool stuff, i learnt something new, but damn you took your damn ass time xD. If you were to present it in a non tutorial way, the whole thing would be done in 1-2 minuets haha.
😁 Thanks bro.
not Ai. this is a Ps ?
Like. Пиздато вышло!
i cant select the posterize option
Try to resterize your layer first before apply posterize. What your photoshop version?
@@nobudesign I am using Adobe cc 2018 and when I rasterized the layer, I still cannot select the posterize option
I first posterized the layer then did the render and blur, after that I placed the posterize effect over the blur and cloud, it worked for me
Nice try.
Actually I dont know to solve this problem, for me everything oke in smart object. Thanks
Why not only AI
I can't produce contour effects in Illustrator
somehow i cant make the clouds part, i already checked every detail and the clouds wont show :C
make sure the foreground and background color is Black and white before you use Cloud Filter
it was my photoshop,i already fixed, thnx anyway and thnx for this amazing tutorial i tryed it and i love it (:
U're welcome : )
Anyone know how to animate this so it’s kind of just an ambiguous collection of blobs?
hi, sorry for late reply. Thanks for your question, I finally got an idea how to animate this kind of contour effect. I have made the tutorial and it will be released soon.
Quite misleading since you used Photoshop whilst the title says Adobe Illustrator. Good video nonetheless.
Its Photoshop
I feel uneasy watching this, its almost like typog something something >.
I dont get it what you mean.
is it just me or is that photoshop?
First step, Create Contour Image in photoshop ( 0:31 - 1:56 )
Next step in Illustrator
Nobu Design I see!🤙🏾
I'm in dubio. I love the tutorial, but I hate getting 70s porn music instead of speech.
Nah, forget it, I'll just click dislike.
😊
If you want tones of a single hue, like @ 09:30, you can do so already in Photoshop:
1. Add a color layer, and set blending mode to overlay, or
2. Add a Hue/Saturation layer, and check "Colorize".
You are doing really great buddy, this one was really helpful and satisfying too.
I loved it, keep it up Nobu,😍😍😍😍😍
I'll be waiting for More videos✌️✌️👍
Thanks nandal.
This is an amazing tutorial : ) How did you add the color themes to the top, mine just has it appear on a side panel or in the swatch tab?
Actually the color themes on the top is five small rectangles, I screenshot the colors from adobe color then sampling with eyedroptool to the rectangles.
You mention how to make this in Illustrator. And then the first thing you do is open Photoshop. Doesn’t make sense at all lol.
When I made posterize, there have appeard red and orange colors beyond black and white. How can I fix it?
Are you sure that you made it in adobe illustrator? Then why is there the letter "Ps" in the upper left corner? 🤔
what was the purpose of the clipping mask at the end?
Thanks for the detailed tutorial. One thing that would be great is to show shortcuts for the tools you are using, it saves a lot of time and helps to learn the adobe deeper
U're welcome and thank you Nick for your suggestions.
the files to large, its normal?like 100mb
