    I worked at Bucees deli. They brought in a chemical engineer who designed the brisket. He brought in 40 different tasting briskets and said our vote is the one that makes it. It was a great day. They smoke them somewhere else and freeze them and send to the store. Store pops them in an oven for like 8 hours. It's honestly the top 3 brisket ive ever had. Nobody EVER believes me when i say its legit great brisket.

    Went to my first Buc-ee’s a few weeks ago on a road trip. Going, I had the brisket, egg and potato burrito. Coming back the XL sandwich. While not the best smoked brisket I ever had, totally 100% respectable and you would not complain if you went to a smokehouse and got the same. Considering the volume of the operation and the quality of the total experience, I will never pass up a Buc-ee’s again in my life if I pass one and have the time. Absolutely a great experience. The bathrooms are so spacious and clean that you will never find anything like them elsewhere.

      I can relate. The last time I was in Texas a buddy and I headed out to Snow's in Lexington, one of my favorite BBQ joints ever. We got there at 8am and the line was already 300ft long (250ish people). We were there for an hour and the lined moved maybe 70ft. As much as I love Kerry and Tootsie at Snow's, we said no way and left.
      So we drove over to Taylor, had some amazing breakfast at Plowman’s Kitchen (a converted school band hall) and then picked up some bbq to go at Louie Mueller's.

    Not a Texas native here, just here working, and everything he said about Buc-cee’s is 100% accurate. I don’t know if it’s possible to go there without spending $100. 😂 I’m going to be moving out of Texas in a couple months, and I’m going to miss both Buc-cee’s and HEB. Most other things about/in the state is more “take it or leave it,” but those two places are amazing.

That helps Buckees put the local small operators out of business. I hate corporate welfare. Here locally, they gave Costco $15 million to build the new Costco. GMAFB

    A little background on my first WHATABURGER in the early 70's Port Arthur,southeast,Texas. Only Whataburger in the area. They took a meatball out of a metal bowl that was sitting in ice. Toss it on the griddle right in front of me and flatten somewhat. Grease fat flying popping
    everywhere. S and P on the patty. Threw the long crinkle cut fries in fryer again in front of me. Toasted the buns on the griddle in the fat with butter. Pulled fries out and salted. Mayo and mustard dressed out burger. You had to do the lean over to eat the burger. Juicy juicy and it didn't fall apart. That was the absolute best burger. Nobody has come close to that burger. Now today cooking is hidden. If you want a hot fresh burger go early in the morning. They have to cook patty fresh. Burger is no where juicy as before but good. No more crinkle cut fries. That is a loss in my book. Today's what whataburger is a disappointment to when I was a teenager.

    Man! You and Joe DEFINITELY nailed the Buc-cee's experience! For example, the food (including the brisket, chips and Kolaches). Way better going there than going to any fast food place or just in general if you don't have time to stop for a restaurant meal. Whenever we are on the road in Texas, Buc-cee's is definitely one of our stops. I agree that their brisket, though not the best, is better than some places that supposedly specialize in BBQ and are overpriced. You mentioned the gazillion gas pumps as well. I was watching the whole video and seeing that it was getting close to the end and thinking to myself "I can't believe they didn't mention the restrooms." Well, sure enough, right at the end, you did." I wish I would have known where you were (which Buc-cee's) you guys were at. Would have loved to meet you all. All the best to you guys. Happy trails.

When you live in Dallas and you pick any direction to go in for a camping trip you’re pretty much guaranteed to run into a buccees. My grandma who was pure Czech used to make kolaches when I was a kid and they were amazing. I dont know what the hell they gave you though, sure wasn’t correct, that was like a pig in a blanket. A kolache was always like a dessert that was a round baked bread with a fruit type filling on the top of it.

    • @dangkolache
      @dangkolache ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is more of a klobasnek, but everyone around here calls these things kolaches, I don't get it. Go to West, stop by Gerik's or Slovaceks or Czech Stop (I prefer in that order) and get an actual kolache

      @bmettura ปีที่แล้ว

      All of my grandparents are of Czech heritage. A kolache is a fruit filled pastry, most commonly with a prune filling. The sausage in a bun thing is a Klobasnek. Calling those Kolaches would be like calling a taco an enchilada. It's just a little annoying to anyone with a dear ol' grandma, like me, who used to make real kolaches.

    My two biggest criticisms of Bucees bbq is the price of course, and when they chop it up all the big blobs of fat all stay in the mix. Many times in the sandwiches and brisket tacos you get a huge mouthful of fat. Other than that as Jeremy said it’s no competition winner but it’s not that bad tasting either.
    Oh yeah, Bucees doesn’t sell any Pepsi products so don’t go looking for a late night Mountain Dew for the caffeine kick lol.

    • @cross_fire_
      @cross_fire_ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The chopped brisket gets the fat and the sliced sandwiches get the lean cuts. Pro tip

    • @MetalMann-de3xi
      @MetalMann-de3xi ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you compare the price to? A price less than BBQ joints? The price is fair to me considering its not some cheaply made brisket. Also, getting sliced brisket instead of chopped will reduce the fat content. If you don't like fat, don't order chopped brisket which is always the fatty side of the brisket.

    Bucc-ees is an amazing place, I go there every day. Their brisket is hit and miss. Your review was spot on. It needs more smoke and is not too robust. Sometimes it’s very good, not the greatest, but sometimes it’s really disappointing. I don’t buy their brisket anymore. But I love that place ♥️ And as for Whataburger, you need to ask for the burger well done, and go with mayo instead of mustard. Then you’ll appreciate it. Go well-done on their patty melt and that thing is spectacular too.

    Have you tried the brisket at The Texan in Schulenberg, Texas? It's much like Buc-ee's... a large truck stop, with a bazillion fuel pumps, large clean bathrooms, all the trucker paraphernalia you could ever want & lotsa MEAT!!! I recommend the Brisket Mac platter. I had never heard of such a combo before. It's about a pound of macaroni and cheese topped with a generous layer of shredded smoked brisket, BBQ sauce & jalapeños optional... You can buy a variety of pastries too, kolaches included. I died & went to heaven!!! Then, as you go to check out, you're confronted with bulk bins of jerky! Heaven!!!

    To be honest, as a 7th generation Texan, before the internet I had never heard of Franklins. Texas Monthly was an Austin magazine publication and we have our own style of brisket in east Texas where we raise more cattle than central Texas. I love central Texas BBQ but I also love hickory smoked brisket from east Texas. It’s not as picturesque as post oak because it leaves the meat a more brownish grey color than deep brown but it also has a great flavor. West Texas and south Texas also has their own style of brisket where they too raise more cattle than central Texas. It’s actually an older style of making brisket than places like Franklins.
