Wonderful Brandon, this is a fantastic first video, and I love your passion for your craft! What fascinating objects these are, and how beautiful! That blue one near the end!! 😍
Thank you! I actually reshot it three times before I was happy with it but perfectionism only stands in the way sometimes. And the blue one is a favorite of mine! It's a recreation of the original beaded cover that felt like it took 4 eternities, but it was worth it - and it helped me keep sane during a retail holiday season, so all wins! Thank you again!
I'm so glad you made this video. I think the quality is excellent for a first video. I understand completely where you are coming from. I received my first parasol in the mail this morning. This is the first antique parasol I've ever seen up close. I met a woman via Etsy that had an antique parasol that needed repair. She said that some restorers were looking to cannibalize it for parts but she was really looking for someone to just love it. I knew from the pictures that it was something special. We worked out a deal and this morning "she" arrived. I can't believe how light and delicate this parasol is. Even in her tattered state she is still an object of beauty. Some of her silk and lace actually fell apart in my hands as I picked her up. I thought the damage must be way worse than I had expected. Then I gently opened her up a little and saw what a work of art she really is. There is a small split at the base of the shaft where the handle goes. I'm hoping some of my wood working friends can help with that. The end of the point is missing but the wood is good. The spoke tips are all missing. I don't know where I'll find parts to replace those. All of the wooden spokes are there and intact which really amazed me. I instantly fell in love. I have no idea what I'm doing but I'm willing to learn because this lovely lady deserves it.
There are a couple others out there! But there aren't many of us. They're fickle creatures sometimes! I'm glad to be one of the few out there to help them hang around a little longer.
I loved this video. The music was a perfect choice. I feel your passion for these beautiful items and got quite teary towards the end as I too feel a very strong connection to items from the past, who wore it, what they felt when they read this line in a book or handled the cover. I bought a vintage 40s handbag a couple of years ago - empty or so I thought. On a much closer inspection I found 2 tickets for a theatre that is no longer around tucked into corner of the inside pocket. At least I know what this owner was doing on the date on the ticket. I wonder if they enjoyed the show? Looking forward to seeing your next video.
Oh goodness, I want one of your sketches in a little frame in my sewing room. But also, my love of parasols is only just beginning. I have a cheap modern one that is.. well it's just awful, but it gets the job done. It makes my heart happy to see your work.
I can't wait to see what you do with this channel -- I love seeing your process on IG so I hope you have fun here too! (and I can lust after your gorgeous gorgeous collection haha)
This is such a wonderful video. I have really adored you dedication and your skills on Instagram so to have yet another place to literally watch your progress is thrilling!
I am so immensely proud of your first video and as always in absolute awe of your exquisite skill, dedication to detail, historic accuracy. Bravo my love - eagerly awaiting your next video.
Thank you, this is so lovely. Those images of parasols against the blue sky are breathtaking, as are your drawings.
