  • Sithi Nakha is a traditional Newar festival in Nepal, celebrated in May or June, focusing on the worship of Lord Kumar (Kartikeya) and the cleaning of water sources such as wells, ponds, and stone spouts. This festival marks the beginning of the monsoon season and underscores the importance of clean water for agriculture and daily use. It brings the community together for collective maintenance activities, fostering community spirit and cooperation, while also featuring traditional Newar foods and cultural performances. Sithi Nakha highlights the interdependence of cultural practices and environmental sustainability.
During Sithi Nakha, we BYC team cleaned wells and ponds to prepare for the monsoon season, ensuring that our community's water sources are free from debris and pollution. This tradition emphasizes the importance of clean water for agriculture and daily use, fostering a sense of collective responsibility and cooperation among us.
You should also participate in these activities to help maintain our environment and uphold this meaningful cultural practice.
