Just gonna put some things out there. I hope this doesn’t sound mean or like criticism.
Sans sleeps during the actual course of the video game. It adds to his lazy character
Sans’s mouth shape stays virtually the same because in the game, his mouth shape doesn’t change. His mouth doesn’t even move.
Also the black backgrounds were used because when fighting or encountering a monster, the background changes from your location to black.
The reason Chara was a ‘being’ and then possessed Frisk, is that Chara was never alive during the Undertale playthrough. The only way Chara could even speak to the player was the fact that at the end of genocide, Chara is in split control over Frisk’s body with the player.
Sorry if this sounded a bit rude. I just wanted to point stuff out. Have an awesome day.
When you slash Sans (and actually hit him), his mouth changes slightly. And then there's Undertale reward tiers explanation (you can search that in youtube) where Sans drank from a straw.
Edit: ...Though, even when he CAN move his mouth, he very rarely does it. His smile is practically constant.

HBegaming YT it’s called a joke, it was still the edge of the map made to resemble a hill but still looking a little too much like an edge to the map, and they still could’ve made the environments have some hidden trees(if you’re talking about the bland background sin at 5:20).

1. Sans is sleeping cuz hes lazy
2. Sans's mouth dosnt change shape because thats just how his mouth naturally is both in game, and in some animation.
3. Sans's lips dont touch thhe tronbone because sans lacks lips, due to him being a skeleton.
4. Chara dissapeared and reappeared, and went within and out of frisk because chara is a ghost, hence they can "posess" frisk.
No offence, but you need to kinda study up on your Undertale XD

Yeah. And apparently, sleeping gives you extra health above your normal hp, so with Sans being so weak, that's probably why he sleeps so much and tires easily.
