I certainly don't mind the Israeli song but it's almost as though it doesn't know exactly what it wants to be. Noa's great though and I expect a good live performance in Liverpool.
I like the verses a lot. But the chorus is really boring, and the dance break feels disjointed from the rest of the song. I mean, they were always going to have a dance break but I wish that the SONG that they crafted around it was better. Maybe a 5/10 for me
When I first heard it, I really liked the first verse and the chorus then it became really chaotic. Noa is clearly talented, but the song feels really manufactured to me, the lyrics has not much sense. I'm expected so much more following the big hype around her.
To me, the three songs this is trying to be don't mesh together as well as they could, or as for example Aijā flows from the synth drums intro, to rock guitars, to the acoustic outro.
Spiritually, I'm glad that the bloody nature of the unicorn has been remmbered. It's still pure and peaceful like a rhinoceros, it never fights in nature and nobody eats it. But it has a huge potency and agility ready against the human corruption for the price of its horn.
It is quite a simple melody, as you say, but I think it’s their best song for a while. It will probably qualify though. And yeah, if you’re going to do a unicorn/human CGI mash-up, at least get the right mythical creature 😆🦄
Israel had much better songs in the last 5 Eurovision editions, including the last two years, though last year didn't qualify. As a song, this is one of the weakest for me. Not memorable, very generic. I think fans are getting behind the artist not the song.
There’s one too many beat changeups. The second “Phenomen-phenomen-phenomenal” section should’ve stayed the same as the first one. That way the meter change towards the end would be more dramatic. “Feker Libi” in 2020 did this perfectly.
Yes, like seven different songs stitched as one..... but I still like it.... get some staging that shows off her physical prowess from the video and it'll qualify.
What I really need is someone to do a compilation of people's reactions to the Noa centaur reveal that happens before the dance break. 😂 7/10 seems fair. This is one of my favs, the vocals are great in the video but I'm not sure they are going to hold up quite that well live, especially since the performance will prob be very physical. Was rummaging for vids of Noa singing live and she seems to mime in a lot of them, though there are a few acoustic sets. Hard to tell how this one will go at the contest, but am definitely hype to find out! 🦄🤙
For me this song doesn't feel homogeneous and these different sections in the song don't interconnect with each other. However, I love the intro and the chorus.
Hi Rachel! I think the Israeli entry is a very good one, but I do not think it will finish top5, like almost anyone expects. But if it did, I would be happy, I like listening to this song. I think though, the catchy part "this fenome-fenome-fenomenal" comes a bit late. Good luck to Israel. I would also like to add that your pretty, sweet and radiant smile in the end of your clip made my day
Quite agree with your analysis. It's well produced. It shows experts hands had the task of refining the song to its current state. But it's painfully visible that the base song is way too basic and uninteresting. The lyrics don't help with that, either. There's a lack of dynamic in her voice that also keeps the song in a constant, unmoving state the whole way through. It's fair. 6/10
well i gess allmost 16M viewers worng??? most of tham love or like the song .so i expect from you to go whis the fact .however thier few fan's don't like it and it's o.k. !!
Actually it's not my type of music but this one catch me. Maybe because of the classical instruments and the fact that each part of the song is different from the previous one. Armenia have the same vibe and both are ones of my favorites.
Most frustrating song of the year by far. It's very nearly good, but not quite. Like you, I also feel as though this track is let down by a *very* basic chorus, especially in the first instance. The first thirty seconds are so intriguing, and then it's like, "Oh. Never mind." It picks back up in the next verse, and the dance breakdown and transition into it is quite good as well (though the synth horns really owe *a lot* to "Kill this Love", and maybe Kpop in general), but it's not a song that's greater than the sum of its parts. Unsurprisingly, it isn't really clicking with Eurovision superfans right now (in the couple of fan votes I've seen, it hasn't even qualified from the first semifinal), but I do suspect people will be more accepting of it once they see it performed, because Noa will undoubtedly sell what's here. As a composition, though, it's not an amazing effort. "Feker Libi" (I believe you mentioned this one), which had some similar ideas, was much better.
My dear, this song will be among the top five.. the voice, the performance, the dance, about peace, about the power that everyone has to bring out the best in themselves, the voice, the rhythm is amazing.
Hey, your videos are great would really appreciate if you could just lower the volume of your intro music as I feel it's a bit too loud compared to when you are in the video. Going through a binge-watching phase of your videos constantly having to manually lower and increase the volume lol.
The problem with this song for me is that I get into the melody and the groove of the first bit then it changes, and I get lost and never recover. The dance break melody at the end is very derivative of kpop dance breaks I would have liked there to be more cohesion in the song and more originality, this just doesn't feel like israel which bums me out
I think the problem is that the song never ‘drops’ - like where’s the conclusion? There’s a pre chorus build up, and then no follow on chorus from that.
Yeah very inoffensive flat song for me. Wonder why it's a favourite for many. Israel had two bops these past two years which fans didn't get behind, yet they get behind this?? Is it perhaps the artist they're getting behind and not the song itself?
Your observation is perfectly correct, academically. Yet, the context is contemporary ESC which dictates--unfortunately--who, why and what wins. True, in its old format the ESC was quite classical as top renowned performers from Central and Western Europe (only) would not sing songs but rather 'chantent des chansons'; I don't recall any of them break dancing. Unicorn is sign of the times, i.e., dance music, simple, catchy and not necessarily intelligent--some would even ask whether it goes down well with drugs. Anyways, when I wish to immerse myself in rich melodies, I head to Vienna which is close by. As for the Centaur... ha ha. I've heard people your age calling that Sagittarius , Pegasus, Minotaur and even Mentor (now the latter blew me off). Seems like the video producers played around with the idea of integrating a human half into a Unicorn which definitely defies the mythological concept. If you'd look close enough, the Unicorn piece is badly cut/edited and lacks more frames; in fact, it's quite forced into an otherwise great video. I'll give the song a 9/10 for it was fun.
I really don't like this song. It feels very much like it was written specifically for Eurovision. Especially the "wanna see me dance" part which makes it feel like it is a performance you're supposed to see rather than a song you listen to. Also the "unicorn vibes" song from Estonia did the same thing she does at the end with chanting 'u-ni-corn' and that song came out many months ago. I prefer the Estonian song tbh because it actually feels more genuine than this, which comes off as contrived to me.
I am definitely a Noa Kirel fan, so I am heavily biased. I believe this is maybe an eight out of ten more than a seven, at least relatively to other Eurovision songs this year. That being said, Noa has a lot of other better discography (I love "Pantera", "Bad Little Thing"), and this just barely falls short of being perfect compared to those songs.
Yeah this one is a no from me. You summed up my thoughts pretty much with how it's doing a lot, but none of the things are that great. Sounds like a bunch of songs have been stitched together. It's clearly been written for Eurovision, and it feels like it's trying too hard to be this fierce girlpop and it feels quite see-through and hollow. The whole song sounds a few years out of date to me, especially the chorus, and the whole Unicorn makes me cringe. This song was written by the same guy that wrote Feker Libi! I think Feker Libi did it better though, I like the flip at the end there but here it just feels jarring.
I mean, I think I can now appreciate the composition of this song. I just don't know why a unicorn of all things. And the fact that we don't even see one in the music video is strange. Wonder what the other song "about love" would sound like if Noa chose that instead.
Lots of Israeli people have boasted that Israel is a unicorn in the Middle East, that's soooo great that this song sings about that etc. I just hope it flops. It probably wont, but there are so many deserving songs in SF1, that to see this monstrosity get through would be a sin.
This was definitely inspired by K-pop acts which are specifically designed to catch people’s attention. Very deceptive because it’s standard pop but embellished with fresh-sounding elements (I.e. the horns section and repetitive catchy phrases). It does have an actual string section tho so that elevates it. 7/10
I'm from Israel and I really liked your review. I agree that the melody is pretty basic, not a lot of notes or development and that Noa's very good voice and performance lifts the song higher than its average and not very interesting melody.
The song is messy constantly building up to nothing and dance breakdown at the edn is wierd and lackluster. It sounds generic and the unicorn chorus is sooo cheesy and not enjoyable to listen to that part. Also there is 0 message to the song its overdone women power is bad way
i hate how unbalanced this song is. Its a weird breed between Uk house/middle eastern dance sounds and a basic 2010's pop ballad/ reggaeton song at the end
She is the winner 🥇 The song talks about her, how can you not understand it? She is the unicorn, that's why they made her a figure of half human half horse and she is the unicorn! Unicorn is a special animal and not like all animals, she is not like everyone else and that is also what she says in the song with her Hebrew name, I am not like everyone else, not like the whole world.. excellent song👌🦄🏆 the best this year ❤
Unicorn or not, how come nothing was said about the brilliant lyrics? You don't really think that the song is about unicorns, right? That's too shallow.
Dalia, I never said the song was about Unicorns though. Usually I don't take lyrics into account much in my reviews because I focus on the musical elements. Afterwards, I study the lyrics in my own time.
She's been doing the unicorn symbol with her hand so many times throughout the video, how did you miss that the "centaur" is actually her as a unicorn with the hand gesture??? LOL!!! Brilliant track and vid!
Transforming her into a half horse with the hand gesture doesn't make her a unicorn, but a centaur. They could put an unicorn with her face instead, not half of her body.
@@angyML , She is the unicorn! It's the creative freedom of the artist. Your unnecessary negativity about it has absolutely no relevance or significance here. Chill out!
@@GPBKM She doesn't have any horn, dude. Unicorn are supposed to have horns. Like this 🦄. A horn on the head. Making a sign implying unicorn doesn't make you one.
You are like a little child who doesn't like something he doesn't understand, there is a lot of meaning to the words and the principle of Unicorn but you couldn't understand that's why the song sounds simple.
A bit mean tbh. but I’m giving the song a chance and trying to learn more about the lyrics/intricacies that a person simply can’t get all on one first listen
This is what Michael Ben David WANTED to be last year except a lot more polished and interesting (sorry for the frankness). It's a bit quirky and sometimes unpredictable (ending was really quite out there) and yet it's quite typical of a lot of former girly pop entries by Israel in recent years. Not a winner, and not what I tend to listen to, but I think it's pretty good objectively and should get a good final position, methinks.
@@ThePeaceAround It's from a Disney movie as I recall (Despicable Me?). It's a sound bite that someone set to piano music and I remembered it when I saw Noa's title reveal months ago 😅
This song is not one of my favorites and I just can't get over the lyrics. What I hear is basically a political statement from Israel (there are references to " being out here all alone", "history repeating itself"...). Of course, I could be wrong but it sounds so obvious to me.
O.K., here goes: I am going to write my reaction before listening to Rachel's - I really dislike this song and this vocal performance, I give this a 2. jmho, it's irritating and she's dull. btw: why oh why can't Israel find a great song for Eli Huli to sing at ESC? He is a potential superstar and his getting the exposure of ESC would be phenomenal. The song they saddled him with for which he almost made it last year just wasn't strong enough for him - still it was so much better than that dance thing they chose instead of his song.

I think Feker Libi did it better though, I like the flip at the end there but here it just feels jarring.
if u look closely she puts her hands on her forehead and made the symbol of a unicorn horn.. centaur lol
What _is_ the power of a unicorn?
Well maybe it’s immortality like from Harry Potter?
this song is just blend of 3 songs in 1, i thk she will kill the performance, but i dont think that would be enough for top 5 this year.
@@LeafHuntress Very happy that you were disappointed and not only that didn't flopped, it finished 3rd.
This song going to be so much batter on stage in may .u aint see nothing yet!!!
GO ISRAEL SLAYED NOA!!!🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🦄👑
This was definitely inspired by K-pop acts which are specifically designed to catch people’s attention. Very deceptive because it’s standard pop but embellished with fresh-sounding elements (I.e. the horns section and repetitive catchy phrases). It does have an actual string section tho so that elevates it. 7/10
Because of inflation some delegations decided to sent 2-3 songs in the price of one.
listen 2 the End befor you Preech
I'm from Israel and I really liked your review. I agree that the melody is pretty basic, not a lot of notes or development and that Noa's very good voice and performance lifts the song higher than its average and not very interesting melody.
Սատանայի պես կպել է առաստաղին, մեղա մեղա
Do Armenia, Austria and Sweden please ❤️
🇮🇱👍👍😊
The song is messy constantly building up to nothing and dance breakdown at the edn is wierd and lackluster. It sounds generic and the unicorn chorus is sooo cheesy and not enjoyable to listen to that part. Also there is 0 message to the song its overdone women power is bad way
i hate how unbalanced this song is. Its a weird breed between Uk house/middle eastern dance sounds and a basic 2010's pop ballad/ reggaeton song at the end
It has the potential to work with the fusion of genres and the stitching together of different ideas, but the ‘glue’ between the ideas isn’t there
Why do not you put subtittles...?
It is just a Click...
Thank you for your reaction...
Yes! Centaur, not a unicorn!
Such an annoying little thing! 😆
She is the winner 🥇
The song talks about her, how can you not understand it?
Chill out!
@@GPBKM no matter what hand gesture she does, she is still biologically a centaur. It's not a hate. It's a fact.
@@arvinroidoatienza7082 , No it's not a fact! She IS the unicorn in the video! Get over yourself! 🤫
@@GPBKM She doesn't have any horn, dude. Unicorn are supposed to have horns. Like this 🦄. A horn on the head. Making a sign implying unicorn doesn't make you one.
One of the worst songs this year, just many elements that doesn't work together and calculated for live performance only
You are like a little child who doesn't like something he doesn't understand, there is a lot of meaning to the words and the principle of Unicorn but you couldn't understand that's why the song sounds simple.
The thing is - is it STILL a centaur if it has a horn on its head? I'm just glad it's not "Unicorns I love them, unicorns I love them..."
Can you imagine if those were the lyrics - like some kind of my little pony track
@@ThePeaceAround It's from a Disney movie as I recall (Despicable Me?). It's a sound bite that someone set to piano music and I remembered it when I saw Noa's title reveal months ago 😅
For me this song is too "already heard". It sounds like an Ariadna Grande song. But it is ok.
She is obviusly an unicorn in the video haha
But unicorns are just horses with horns! she's a lady with a horse body, which is a centaur. :')
@@neconeconeco Yeah I was joking about the thumbnail; ithought it was funny that she is a Centaur haha
@@randomname9949 hahaha no worries!!! she should have just gone full pegasus unicorn centaur
Hey, this is a response song to the anti-Semitic Kanye West
Good singer, poor song; kind of mixed bag. Well, Käärijä's song is kind of mixed bag also, but it works.
The song is very basic and stops halfway through, giving way to a dance break that continues to the end. Not a lot of song here for a song contest.
This song is not one of my favorites and I just can't get over the lyrics. What I hear is basically a political statement from Israel (there are references to " being out here all alone", "history repeating itself"...).
Of course, I could be wrong but it sounds so obvious to me.
The song is too frankensteiny for me. Too many songs packed in one song. You can really hear, that it was written for Eurovision.
I can get that as well - I think when songs are ‘written’ for Eurovision, that’s their own undoing
All her songs like that. She mix up oriental with Hebrew rock and pop and hip hop to the same song. This is her kind of music
@@ThePeaceAround it was written for the Eurovision of course like most songs in the Eurovision. But this is her style. Mixing.
The song doesn't know what it is, kind of like their nation.
I can't take a song with this nonsensical lyrics seriously, sorry.
