I actually didn't even know that they made D for the Playstation until a few months ago. I rented D back when the Sega Saturn came out and loved every second of it.
My brother and I had the long box (sleeve) variant of wipeout when we were kids. It was our first ps1 game (we got a ps1 Christmas of 95). From what I can remember, most of the long box variants are older than the rest.
I just discovered you about two weeks ago, and I must say that you're a pleasure to watch & listen to. I'm enjoying your content, and your passion for game collecting. Keep up the great work Mr. Wright Way!
I have only one cardboard longbox PS1 game, Road Rash, and one of my all time favorites. Lol, I bought PGA Tour 96 in the jewel case when it first came out. Ugh and I threw away all the PS1 jewel cases I had in exchange for those stupid cd case holders 😭. Now I have a bunch of expensive games without cases and manuals. Not in a million years would I have thought back then the case would have been of value. Please tell me I’m not the only one who did this.
Yep I 100% recall the PS1 Longboxes. The first time I actually played a PS1 game was back in maybe early 1996. I actually rented the console, along with Assault Rigs (Longbox). At the rental store at the time the PS1 was still pretty new and the only games they did have for it were all Longboxes on the shelves next to each others. As of right now I have a genuine, mint condition Longbox (rigged plastic on the side) version of Assault Rigs (which I put inside a PS1 Longbox-sized protective plastic case I bought on eBay). And indeed some of the Longbox games did later come out in the regular CD-ROM cases. From what I recall (correct me if I'm wrong) the Longbox games for the PS1 were only produced for a period of maybe one year (give or take a few months). They were very quickly replaced by the regular cases. It's kind of unfortunate that it happened in my book. The full plastic 'jewel' Longbox could have been their standard format (comparable to the Saturn's format). I remember contacting a Reproduction maker on Etsy about 2 years ago and asked him if he could make Longbox versions of games that never actually came out in Longboxes. He said that of course it would be physically possible for the cases themselves but pointed out that making the actual Instruction Manual and the Front and Back cover prints would be trouble as the actual formatting would have to be completely re-done, and the preview pictures and front / back art would be deformed as it was never originally intended to be made for that sort of format; which was a good point I never thought about (comparable to say... old games running at 4:3 screen ratio and seeing them running on 16:9 ratio all stretched out). The only other Longbox game I'm currently looking for (in mint condition) is DOOM, not easy to find as most of them are beyond scratched, those early Longbox games show their age very easily.
Jumping Flash was an awesome game the sense of height it gives you was amazing at the time. I was a Manager at Babbages when the PS1 Launched we had our managers conference in Nashville when we came back from dinner the first night we had a PS1 and 4 games waiting on our beds compliments of Sony what a thrill that was.
I learned something new today. I only know of the cardboard long boxes. I've never seen a full jewel case long box, until today. Thanks Mr. Wright Way 👍🏾
Hello, awesome video. Do you like modded consoles? I bought an Original GBA with all the bells and whistles and I love it. I remember seeing the long box Playstation games back then. I knew they'd be rare.
@@MrWrightWay I just played the Incredible Hulk and it is a bad game on the gba the controls are janky, you try and go one way and it goes another but it seems to have multi-player.I am enjoying the PS Pursuit.
I remember my brother he had a few long boxed PlayStation 1 games I always thought they were unique and cool. I love the jewel cases more because they are easy to have organized and they don't take up a lot of space. I love Tekken I have Tekken 1 , Tekken 2 and Tekken 3 for the PlayStation 1 they are amazing classic games. Cool video. ^_^
Fantastic video Steve! Absolutely loved it!!! Very informative! These are the PS1 long box games i currently own: Defcon 5, Killeak DNA Imperative, Ridge Racer, Hi-Octane, Tekken, Darkstalkers, and Zero Divide. Killeak, Ridge Racer, Hi-Octane, and Tekken are all in the long case like Sega CD/Saturn. Defcon 5, Darkstalkers, and Zero Divide are all actual cardboard boxes. I know my Tekken is rare, and how some value to it however I didn't know that my Ridge Racer does too! I was going through my PS1 games the other on my Gameye app and it says it's worth $300. Now I don't know how accurate that is (current value wise), but I was really surprised by that!
Very interesting video. I remember the switch from longbox to jewel cases, but didn't know the variants of each. PlayStation 1 definitely changed the game back then, and it looks like that extended to game packaging as well.
I copped The Raiden Project for only 10 bucks about a decade or so ago. The only CIB long box I could find, of a game I like in a decent condition. D is an interesting game that I still own loose for the Saturn. That one QTE section with the knight gave me hell, but it's a unique horror game.
I still love my PS1 long boxes! I preordered the PS so I'm nostalgic for those long cases more than the basic jewel cases. The long boxes had character, not the CD cases... Id love to collect all the LBs, but my collection is more curated lol, which is to say i cant afford a complete set. Anyway, something to strive for i guess...
When PS1 was still being sold and they switched to the jewel cases, I didn't like how PS1 changed it and I wanted to replace all the long boxes with jewel case versions just because of space and the games matching on the shelf. I used to go to Funcoland and the employees where fine with me taking the jewel cases. I got several of the jewel case variants this way. So I have many small jewel case and the long box versions and only one copy of the game. Some where GH versions, but many where the Black Label version.
Should have mentioned Ridge Racer, Alien Trilogy, and Magic Carpet,. I see Ridge Racer pop up even less than Doom on ebay. Toshinden without not for resale print is pretty hard too. Toshinden is fun becuase there's 3 black label versions. I guess if you dont have those you dont want them to have hype though
We had a few cardboard long boxes but they were driving Scott crazy because they didn't fit on his PS1 shelf. Mind you, we have D in the long box jewel case and good luck to Scott if he tries to get rid of that. 😂😂😂
It’s Cool to see the jewel case variants. I finished the long box set 4 years ago when the prices weren’t too high yet.

Black label jewel case Air Combat is really rare to find as well.
I had a disc only copy of Starblade Alpha so I made a jewel case design for it.
man. the game "D" gave me nightmares as a kid. We got it for Sega Saturn and still have it! Cool to see it for Playstation

Thats such a fun pursuit.I love the art of longboxes and manuels. Best of luck finding Silverload in the wild!😊 🙏🏽

I enjoy your Playstation coverage in general keep it coming I'll keep watching 😊
It’s crazy to learn about all of these variants. Great video! You are almost there for completing the set. Keep it up!
Thanks my friend
I picked up more stuff at GameStop just now I’ll make a video when I get home
Those long boxes are so cool! Great talk!
