40 milli-tesla suggests that this is for use with a strong external magnet.
Problem.
The lead-frames (resistors, capacitors, ICs) and bodies (pish-button-switch) of the components of the sensor 0:59 are sufficiently ferromagnetic to hinder accurate measurement. Would you consider a version with these components far removed from proximity of the sensor? (Try with a wire-extender on the current PCB to see how much of a difference this makes)?
Basically, all you need now is a night cap and candle, Rob.
Hmm... DIY magnetic encoders. Without the quadrature decoding. (or with, either way)
