"The Bills didn't install a brand new offense in less than a week of preparation." Groundbreaking analysis here. Of course they used the play book they have, it's how it was used within the flow of the game that made it successful. There was a plan to attack the Jets, not just, "Hey, let's try this"
I get Kurt's point, but I don't think anyone thought they were going to completely change the playbook. It's also not totally fair to cherry pick these same 10 plays one week to the next and say it's only about execution. What also needs to be taken into consideration is all 71 offensive plays as a whole, and how each play sets up the next. The offense felt way more cohesive this week vs. last. Seemed like there was a better gameplan against the Jets than the Broncos. Does Brady deserve all the credit? No. But hard to say he didn't have an impact after watching the Bills struggle since the Jags game.
I think Kurt's commentaries are usually excellent, but I agree with you on this one. Getting the ball to running backs on designed plays was huge in the Jets game. I think putting guys in motion helped a lot as well.
The Bill's haven't scored consecutive points on back to back drives in weeks... Granted those back to back points were 3, 3 and 3 but that still counts... The difference was definitely visible
Now I don't know what to make of Kurt's analysis any more. Sure, conceptually they are the same routes but details matter a lot - a few inches apart could mean a clear lane to throw or a tipped ball. Even a fraction of a second could mean a receiver is a bit ahead to catch a deep ball - and this is where motion with intention can matter. No sane person would expect a dramatic change for this team's play calls especially in the middle of a season, so calling out that these are just similar concepts is moot and no offense, a bit lazy. Jets defense is no joke, even better than Denver's, yet Bills were still able to score points (albeit not TDs) so something clearly worked better. And don't tell me it's the players mood, because many of them looked really depressed after KD's departure, including JA.
Exactly! I watched Cover 1 breakdown the plays, and a number of plays showcasing how the added pre snap motions created space for our receivers. I am not seeing a similar analysis here in Kurt Warner’s video
Kurt, you are missing a few key plays here. I'll give u an example. A jet sweep to harty that loses 3 yards. Ok fine whatever. Never ran that with dorsey. But you know what that did? It set up the ty johnson 4th and 1 play for a td. Because we ran it earlier we got the LBs to take a step towards it allowing ty johnson to be wide open and eventually score
Disappointed because this was a bit lazy. The motion matters with this because Brady not only utilized a jet sweep for run & pass, but also an orbit motion for a screen. Dorsey just used motion to identify coverage. You brushed over the gameplan and pointed out the obvious; Brady had to use the existing playbook on a short week. You’re better than that
I think this perfectly highlights the point that it wasn't (just) the plays drawn up that made Dorsey's offense flat. It's that they are run by human's who need coaching which involves managing personalities and relating to the humans running your offense. Maybe this week was a novelty bump and they'll regress. Or maybe Brady coaches people better than Dorsey.
All of what your saying is true, but weeks ago I said there is a disconnect between Allen and Dorsey. The plays are the same for the most part but an OC's job is to beat the other defense and that wasn't happening. This week Allen is starting to be Josh Allen excited to be out there and seemingly caring about the outcome. An OC has to create the game plan but also have his QB and team buy into it.
I disagree and you purposely didn't show the plays he came up with that Dorsey didn't run. You also didn't talk about how he set up plays to catch them off guard later in the game, something Dorsey wasn't doing. You just don't want to be wrong and it's ok.
Exactly. The ty johnson touchdown was set up earlier in the game by a harty jet sweep which got the LBs to take one missstep on that play and he was out
Noone was saying dorsey didn't have an idea how to run an offense. But there was 0 plan of attack as far as hey we gotta have it here. Both of those touchdowns to cook and ty johnson were the most schemed plays we have in years
its when the play is called especially mixing in james cook and now ty johnson those play will always have success with the run - the philadelphia game we will know
They’re not going to change the playbook lmao. It’s the calls Brady made and focusing on using the backs more in the passing game. Cmon man. He called up Ty Johnson, the 5th running back in the depth chart and schemed up 6 plays just for him. It’s subtle things like that. And lining up under center and running and play action. It’s completely better
The little details is what was missing. The motion helps identify the zone vs man faster and actually using jet sweep had the LBs play closer to the line of scrimmage and create more spacing. Yes, it wasn't the scheme but the little extra detail is what made the difference
Why did he not include the 2 touchdown passes that were easy throws to wide open recievers or explain that the pre snap motions were to help read the defense so Josh could figure out the coverage pre snap. Or the percentage increase of attacking the middle of the field and plays of josh under center where he is the best in the league. Obviously in 3-4 days your not going to throw out your playbook and install a completely new offense. That was never the issue with Dorsey. Nobody thought Dorsey was the only issue with this team, neither did the organization, but when the team is ridden with defensive injuries you need a coordinator that can be consistent and help the offense find a rhythm and scheme plays that include some easy throws. Picking 7 plays that are the same play and saying look little changed but the players execution is not very insightful.
From what I have heard, Dorsey had the receivers running different routes, depending on what the defender, defending them did. It sounded like guys were confused or just to much thinking involved. If Josh is expecting this and the receiver does that, that would lead to frustration. Not sure how they simplified things or what they changed up with the plays but it worked, what a difference.
While concepts and overall structure is the same, there clearly are tweaks in both how they are executed, but more importantly - choice of personnel for the routes, e.g. the fake Jet sweep to Diggs that pulled the middle of the defense towards him and away from Kincaid.
We really should also note the defense. I’m no analyst by far but it looked like a cover 3 concept on some these plays in which the Broncos were simply in position. They played better D to make plays on the ball. The jets same coverage but their secondary looked outta position. Idk if the motions helped with that but definitely something I noticed.
This is really lazy film work. There were tons of new wrinkles and changes, Warner just doesn’t notice them because he doesn’t follow the team each week. Watch Cover 1’s breakdown of all the differences, which is a phenomenal breakdown by those who have actually watched every bills snap.
Im happy the Bills won, it was a much needed confidence boost, and reminder to everyone they're still elite. I just hope they do their homework against philly and KC, playoffs are still a way to go, a win against philly will really be a statement to the NFL and the fans
The difference was they put Josh under center a lot more and handed the ball off. Which led to the Jets not being able to just line up and play pass defense. In fact I wished they would have done it more. Then they would have scored 40 points on the Jets. Ken Dorsey refused to put Josh under center. If you can’t run the ball then you won’t be able to pass the ball! We have the offensive line and the running backs to be able to pound the rock as often as we want. That’s what will lead us to the promise land! FYI, running the ball helps keep the OLine engaged and having fun. No offensive line wants to pass block all game long. Like Dorsey was asking them to do. That’s why they literally said they were getting bored out there with Dorsey. They have to stay engaged all game!
Kurt is a joke. I’m the play digs went ok motion, it moved the middle linebacker opening the middle. Calls and motion with intent. Clown. Lost all credibility
Will never question a hall-of-fame quarterback but I think he's just confirming why Dorsey had to be fired. The offense was basic and had no innovation.
Most motion since 2019 and ran the ball more than passed it. Passing td to a rb that hasn't even played under dorsey. All things you forgot in this video. I think brady made better personel decisions too in this game
I’ve watched a few of these, and I have to say the tone of this video was really weird. It’s like Kurt took the firing of Dorsey personally. No real analysis in this one, but I hope at least it helped him sleep better…
Its how the plays were called to set up other plays. It's the volume of run plays Brady called. Dorseys offense was flat because be NEVER ran the ball. The Broncos game was the only time he ran the ball the entire season and the offense was moving. Teams literally stopped playing the run and only played the pass caise he was calling 6 run plays a game and they always came af ter the 1st quarter. Teams cpuld literally just sit back and wait for the passing attack of the bills and pick everything off. They dont ecen have to hesitate qbout the run. With Joe Brady the attack is completly balanced forcing teams to respect the run. It's that simple. Dorsey should've been fired last year.
🥱 You're just mad 'cause Buffalo embarrassed your team even more than usual. Ya gotta lash out while working thru the pain, I understand. But at the end of the day, you're still a fan of...the Jete. 😂
@@Brendan-Black their defense has given the Bills issues in their last three matchups when Dorsey was OC, now suddenly they destroy them with Joe Brady. That defense is fr tho. They put Hurts and Mahomes through hell
