I've been speaking American English my whole life. I've never heard of this "Dark L" before. The way I pronounce "L" is that it is shorter at the front or middle of a word and longer at the end of the word. In both cases, the tongue is pressed on the ridge behind the teeth. Perhaps more of the tongue is pressed against the ridge on a terminal "L", but it certainly is not a sound that I make in the back of the mouth; I certainly don't use the uvula. I think, for foreigners learning English, it is helpful to understand that there are variations in the way native speakers of English actually pronounce the language. I love watching videos on how to pronounce English. Not that I can't pronounce it, I just like to see an analysis of pronunciation.
