  • Hand Off Auto HOA controls are a very common and versatile control circuit. It allows loads such as motors, solenoid valves, electric cylinders, etc. to be controlled by some automatic operation such as a sensor or PLC plus allows you to easily turn the load on manually or off manually.

    Great lesson on a very common control circuit. Seen a lot of techs get confused on mounting the contacts on a HOA actuator. Makes a huge difference on how the contact blocks are mounted on the actuator.

    Thank you so much. This was actually helpful due to the camera angles along with the instructions. It’s so hard to find a video that has both.

    Tim I really like your videos and what you’re doing. I have a question. When troubleshooting a program in 5000 or 500 ladder logic and the instruction gets kinda confusing with a bunch of moves from different sources to different destinations, how do you keep everything organized to help you solve the issue? I’m trying to become a better technician when using ladder logic programs to troubleshoot. My brain can’t keep everything organized and I get lost when the instruction gets complicated. I need a systematic approach with a pad of paper to write down the correct path to follow when troubleshooting. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks and keep up the good work.

      A scratch paper never hurts but the big thing is learning to use the cross reference effectively. The destructive column tells you whether something can write to a tag. The trick that I tell technicians in our class is that if you are cross referencing something that can only read such as an XIC, then you'll be looking for a Y...always the opposite.
      Other than that, it takes time troubleshooting programs before you start to understand little things you can do to make them easier to follow. Get copies of as many programs you can and see how they do it.

      @@TimWilborne thank you for advice! I will focus on learning as much as I can about using cross reference. That gives me a good direction to focus on. We have experienced guys in our shop that we can learn from but a lot of our training is informal. We have access to hundreds of different programs/ machines to learn from. Thanks again and keep up the good work!

    Hello Tim , is that the plc output card be different out as source or sinking like the input card ? And which 24v "COM" power i should connect correctly on the module output card ,means (+ or - ) , Thanks You

      @TimWilborne  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, sinking and sourcing matter on output cards, the same as input cards. See if this video helps.

    Hey Tim, would this same setup more or less work on a 120VAC circuit with a 120VAC motor?

    • @TimWilborne
      @TimWilborne  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not directly. You would need a relay or contractor to isolate your 24VDC from your 120VAC

    Hey Tim this is off topic but I just decided to buy rslogix 500 and studio 5000 from my distributor and I was denied due to not being a business owner do you know if that is a normal occurrence?

    • @TimWilborne
      @TimWilborne  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unusual but not unheard of. But honestly if someone asked me how to by RsLogix 500 and Studio 5000 out of the blue, my first question would be why do you want to purchase it? Do you need it for a specific control system or are you wanting to learn PLCs? Here is a video on how to use Rockwell Automation's Software Portal and purchase directly but answer my question first.

      @@TimWilborne I have a couple reasons. 1. I would like to learn the navigation of the software plus I really enjoy programming 2. I plan on accruing as many different software’s as I can and potentially doing some contract work.3. Part of my job is programming plcs and I don’t really have time to practice at work where I actually have access to the software.

      @@whoareyou6854 With what you have told me, I wouldn't recommend you purchasing the software either. Start with CCW which can be downloaded for free, work you way through each instruction category and learn them inside and out.
