I love how that D minor pentatonic and Bb major scale fit very nicely next to and on top of each other. Was jamming on this last night and felt like for the first time I was really hitting chord tones on the chord changes. It felt awesome.

I haven't heard much phish, but man, these videos are still so full of good stuff. You drop gold nuggets of information in every video.

I'd love to see a video of some common Trey licks. (Double walk ups, thirds, etc. - obviously if I knew what they were I wouldn't have to ask.) Thanks!

Like that light speed hammer on pull off trick he does in first position around the a or d chord. Off hand I couldn't even say what song he uses it in.

I know I've said it before, but these videos, with demonstration + examples are really helping me advance.
Thank you for the hard work!

So awesome Stitch. LOVE this song, and you just made it so easy. Where is part two? Could you break down the beginning section as well which is sick?? Thx!!

great that you reference the Live in Brooklyn version which is the one I've been trying to learn for years...Any chance you'll do a follow up where you take a deeper dive into his phrasing and movement across the fretboard?

That moment when you decide to watch Trey play this live so you find the Coral Sky version on TH-cam

Would bending that F (Bb) to a F# (D7) and then releasing work in this jam? (Chalkdust video).

How can I make my soloing less “linear”? I seem to just run up and down the scales, landing on the root for emphasis. But I just don’t have the licks that i see guitarists like you and other awesome players pull off so organically. Thanks amazing video as usual

A lot of it is emphasizing the “special” notes of the modes or bending up to notes. The crazy licks you hear are just previously learned licks they play over a key generally a pentatonic lick that we all love. Obviously be creative to and pre-bend like said in the video. It all just comes down to being creative and choosing the right notes for situations. Use your triads too and chord shapes as notes to singularly play

These videos are really bringing things together for me, so thank you! Quick question.. Isn't the scale over the Bb chord an F major scale rather than Bb major? I definitely hear trey playing the E over the Bb chord at least in some of the 3.0 versions i've listened to.

That's my reaction too. Bb in F is a Lydian scale. I came across this video last night and didn't have a chance to sit down and play it until today, and I think the Bb Ionian doesn't fit as well, but it works. Maybe Stitch was just trying to teach us the Jazz theory way of soloing vs. the diatonic.
