Feels like were all pretty similar, at least when it comes to this game. Very underrated but it will always be one of my favorites and hold a special place for in my heart. Spent many many hours replaying through it lol, lost my original PS2 memory cards and I nearly cried but bought new ones and played it again a bazillion times anyways lol.

A well intentioned antagonist with sympathetic qualities. He had witnessed the humans being used as throwaway vessels by the other dragons so many times that he finally chose to change that and give humanity a chance to redeem themselves as something else than sacrificial tools. In this story such a redemption was not meant to be since they’re treated as destructive in the human path and dispensable in the hands of Ridley in the non-human path. The whole game is rather full of pathos.
Though Jack keeps using his 1st sword during story cut scenes where he draws his blade and the Arbitrator before the fight against Aphelion at the None Human path.
This is one of the few games that I really wanted to play through multiple times to get every friend and find all the best weapons and armor, spent a little over 300 hours on this game with no regrets haha
VanguardCommander yes, the non-human ending is considered the best ending, but the human side has the strongest characters who are more suited for the end game dungeons for the ethereal queen

@Recca Visey YES! Also I want to know if the maze of tribulations have Water Dragon,Gold Dragon & Cain Russell as bosses. I’m proud they threw in Lenneth Valkyrie & Lezard. Throwing in those two makes sense because the lore of the story for Radiata Stories is there are 6 dragon gods who watch over the world,each overseeing a type of race. That is the only religion we see within the story. For all we know,Valkyrie’s could exist in that universe too and just like how the silver dragon went rouge and plotted to take over the world, and the premise of the brigades were to serve under a commander,the gods in VPL were waging war against one another and trying to plot to take over. The main character or his dramatic foil (depending on the playthrough) slays the dragon gods. That character would make an excellent enheriar to fight alongside Lenneth.
This was the first game I ever got for the PS2. I played it constantly and never got bored with it, and it effectively became a comfort game. It's really nice to see all the cutscenes all in one place so I can experience that joy all over again
You know what I think? I think Jack became the vessel of the Gold Dragon in the non-human ending. The after credit, you hear him sound almost feint and an echo while Ridley sounds normal despite her sparkling hair. By interrupting the ceremony, Jack inadvertently took the Gold Dragon within him, sparing Ridley that role. But because he didn't receive that transmutation thingie, he becomes a mortal host with an immortal soul. (Kind of like the Last Air Bender) With all the humans gone, they become this generation's Adam and Eve. I can only imagine what comes next. A shame there's no Radiata Stories 2. This game wasn't the best but it certainly was memorable. An imperfect gem. I was really hoping for a sequel since square enix made this but it probably flew under a lot of people's radar. Hell... I wouldn't have known about this game if my aunt didn't just randomly pick something from the store for me. Talk about a lucky roll of the dice.
paul xion That is not what happens. Because Ridley is the vessel of Quasar, she is the only human being to survive in the series (according to the nonhuman ending). There are two theories for Jack's echoic voice. The first theory being that Ridley chose to preserve Jack's soul and ONLY his soul (she has the power to do so as the vessel). The second theory is a much more dark approach as to what really transpires in the ending. This theory suggests that Ridley is simply imagining Jack, as she is alone and holds him very dear to her heart. As the last surviving person, it's not a stretch to say that the latter theory is true. After all, Ridley essentially threw away all of humanity's survival away for a dumb prophecy. Who's to say that she didn't crack after a sudden realization and needed a coping mechanism to handle the stress of her burden. Makes perfect sense if you ask me. Personally, I'm partial to the human ending myself. There are less plot holes and it simply makes for a far more interesting tale. Everything that occurs in the human path adds up nicely and is explained in a very sensible manner. There is even a greater sense of urgency and despair. It's quite difficult to believe that Jack would throw away all of humanity's hope for the sake of Ridley and the nonhumans. In all honesty, living with the burden of having his love stripped from him makes the story far more believable and flavorful in the end. The only problem with that ending, aside from it being proper tragic of course, is that the Arbitrator doesn't make an appearance all throughout the game until the very last scene. That is a travesty!

I love and hate when Ridley dies. Jack, who pretty much was dense dummy throughout the game watches his love die, partly his fault. He suddenly doesn't care about the world or dragons or anything. He knows his love was just killed, and he knows the dragon did it. So he kills him.
The human path is so much better. Jack goes through so much, losing Dynas as his father figure, and Ridley the love of his life. Aphelion is also more developed in the human path. In the human path, Aphelion's motives are much more relatable. He has seen humanity for what it is with his own eyes, and feels they deserve to live instead of being eliminated by the dragons. In the non human path hes just a cliche B-Villain. Only thing good going for the non human path is Ganz and Ridley living.
@Raydnt A little late here but in the non-human path you see Cross develop into a pompous psycopatholgical murder who is drunk on power and moxie as Jack develops into a mature human being and a stronger and better person towards everyone,even facing his greatest fears and having closure with what happened and why the events with Cain & Gawain,in addition to accepting Gawain for who he is. Also,my boi Ganz Reuinited with his dad and they both finally have closure to the point they’d die together. Aphelion still sees and understands what the humans go through which still gives him extra motivation to go apeshit and try to stop the natural order of their religion by trying to prevent Gold Dragon’s age from coming (which he still succeeds in doing). Here Zane doesn’t completely forgive the humans and isn’t thankful and holds ill wills after the final battle (hint for an antagonist for a continuing game-PLS TRI-ACE MAKE IT HAPPEN!) opposed to Jack just going off on another journey somewhere in the world like,fuck all this bullshit I’m out,type of exit lol. I really do wonder if you fight Aphelion with both Ridley & Ganz in the non-human path. If so then that is not only badass but sooooo rewarding since it would be like old times fighting alongside them like how we started in the early game. It also looked like The Human path was easier than the non-human path because those battles are against seemingly weaker enemies (battle on the moat) vs battle at the frontline base where it seems like you’re facing much stronger enemies without assistance from your party or even the ogres.

I was 12 when I first bought this game (22 now). Was at a party store that had these Ps2 games on sale at the time. They had this one for a mere 15 bucks. Best $15 I've ever spent in my entire flipping life.

Personally I prefer the non-human path.
Well, the npcs there have fewer things to do daily so it's easier than the Human Path where one needs to plan before hand more.

But, meanwhile...
7:15:00 - Non-Human's music is not a sad one.More like atmospheric.
So i think, human ending side is really hard for Jack.And worse for the world.

I was stupid young at the time. Didnt know the red and blue flags were used to *save* files. I would screw up a bunch and had to repeat 00:00 - 22:23 like 5 or 6 times. Man I miss being stupid young. *lol*
I was 12 when I first bought this game (22 now). Was at a party store that had these Ps2 games on sale at the time. They had this one for a mere 15 bucks. Best $15 I've ever spent in my entire flipping life.
