Tweak your RF power meter: Here's how

- My small VHF/UHF RF power meter was giving an inaccurate reading. Watch how I tweaked it to give more accurate results. And does it work on HF? I'll give it a test there as well.

Having played around a little making RF power indicators and SWR bridges, I found it is not easy to get accurate readings across a wide frequency range with simple circuits like this. I usually treat readings on uncalibrated commercial indicators for ham use with a pinch of salt. Just as you did, calibrating with a reference you trust at one frequency is probably the best approach.
I agree and have had the same experience. I have a Welz SP-10X portable watt/swr meter that is good for 1.8 to 150 MHz and it is no more accurate as this one. Good for spot checks and I used it to check used radios at hamfests for RF output. If the output power was in the ballpark I could assume the transmitter was operational.
Peter you should call your channel "The Barefoot Ham" with all the work you do.
Thanks but the existing name and website is pretty established so I think I'll leave things as they are.
