I just love the babana drama!😂 Also - thank you for the sneak peek at Mr Much Moore Patient. It’s always fun to get a glimpse of the person sharing the life of garden youtubers.💚
My neighbor gave me some pups from her banana tree. I have them planted in part shade. They still get about 6 feet tall. Every fall before frost I cut the healthiest leaves and give them to her. She cuts them into squares and freezes them flat to use for her tamales throughout the year. I love giving them back to her! (Zone 8a North Georgia, we can overwinter Banana trees in place)
I grew up on Maui with an Uncle who had a huge banana patch at his house. So it’s always a treat to see your banana plants get revealed in spring and to witness its prep for winter slumber. My Uncle would be amazed you have plants in Wisconsin. So am I.
Just happened to be up at 4 AM?? I mean, I knew you're crazy in the gardening sense, but this, 4 AM takes crazy to a different kind of crazy!! 😂 Thanks for the great video though-- might try to store mine now too!
Each year is a new chapter in the Banana Chronicles. Dirt in the mouth this year. What's to come next year? Nice to see Mr. Much More Patient. Putting a face to a name is always nice.
Erin, you inspired me to buy an Abyssinian for my front porch here in Colorado. It grew beautifully and my friends had a hard time believing that it was a banana plant. I overwintered it inside. What a beast to move!!! (My husband's nickname is NOT Mr. Much More Patient.) It suffered from being covered in drywall dust during a bit of remodeling, plus an attack of spider mites. I wasn't sure if it would survive. For anyone who wants to keep one inside as a house plant, they need frequent watering. Like, almost daily. It did survive and I brought it back outside in the same pot to the same place. After cleaning off the dust again, it grew like a weed! Another year of beauty on my front porch. Before this year's first frost I moved it back inside. (I surprised my husband by asking others for assistance.) It's kept growing and we won't have the terrible dust this year. Hopefully we won't have spider mites either. I would try your method, but I don't have a place in my house that's cold enough and the garage is too cold. So, I'll have to keep the open parking space for that huge banana inside. Who cares if we have to duck to get out the door?
Oh my gosh I was so concerned BP1 BP2 were getting tossed into the abyss aka plant trash. 🤣BP1&2 look like a narwals going into the cellar. *Magnus is so handsome and growing like a Newfie grows - FAST*
I use cinnamon when i cut my leaves on my orchids and plant stems. It acts as a drying agent and it has anti fungal and anti bacterial properties. Just keep it off the roots as it dry them out. Love your show!!!!
@@TheImpatientGardener I know what you mean about wanting to try new things in the planters but you’re so right about it working perfectly next to the house.
I'm having much more fun watching yr chronicles with those 2 just Banana plants versing me growing one. Yr looking great in the past few videos! Yr losing weight 4 sure! And you have a beautiful smile! ❤
Banana Love!! It's amazing how you are growing (and overwintering) gigantic bananas in Wisconsin. Thanks for the treat of seeing Mr. Much More Patient. I'm guessing you had to barricade Magnus while this was going on.
Ahh, the banana saga (x2). It's so entertaining! 😂 Two out of three years laughing. I appreciate your commitment to them, i hope they do too. Rest well Chiquita and, ???? OG?. See you in April. We really need to name him! Thanks Erin for talking us along on their journey.
Same situation for me. I’m zone 5b and have kept mine for past couple years. It always grows about 10 feet tall. I left mine intact this year too for top leaf. In past I’ve but off full top put into a empty gargage can to support it and stored in basement. No light or water but it still pushes out a few new yellow leaves at first.
I’m overwintering mine in pots as they’re not as big as yours yet. First the sun porch and later the basement under a window. Thanks for showing your method again.
Same here! Although I thing Mr MMP actually enjoys gardening ( but I could be wrong). My hubby detests all things gardening but still helps out when I need him to! Here’s to great husbands!!!
Love seeing the banana videos! Dug up my exotic elephant ears, colocasia Golden Dragon and Hawaiian Sunset. They don’t look like much either. Gonna try to winter them over in my basement.
I dig my banana tree and repot in a larger pot. I keep through the winter in a warm, sunny spot. I remove all the leaves except the newest one. When I move out in late May in southern Wis, I cut all the leaves off again except the new one. I have been doing this for 2 winters, about to begin year 3.
I almost bought a banana this Spring because I loved yours, but wasn’t ready for the commitment. Now I’m thinking I may have to commit in the Spring. It’s just an unexpected, fun plant!
Suggestion for the banana in the ground put a couple rings of drip around it so it gets the amount of water it wants without you having to hand water it
With all your fancy tools I’m surprised you don’t have a hori hori knife to cut those leaves.😊 could you tip those bananas over slightly so the tops aren’t bent?
@@mardisteffenhagen Sure, I can update that in a garden stroll video. All I did was cut it back to its main branches and transplanted it to a smaller port for storage and stuck the whole thing down there. It’s my first time trying it so consider it experimental.
Love the bananas! Very tempted to try one next year. Wondering if you don't cut the stalk down, eventually are you going to have 4+ft of stalk and then leaves up only at the top?
You're making me really think hard about getting a banana tree next season. My mom's had one before, and it never went outside, so it stayed small (3'-4') but everyone was watering it, so it rotted one summer and she never got one again.
I really need help in knowing what to do with my elephant ears (the new kind that don’t have tubers) and hedychium. I have watched several videos but every one seems to do it differently and I have just gotten less confident about what to do for them.
Probably the most we've seen Mr. Much More Patient in a single video ever!
I just love the babana drama!😂 Also - thank you for the sneak peek at Mr Much Moore Patient. It’s always fun to get a glimpse of the person sharing the life of garden youtubers.💚
“There’s so much dirt in my mouth!” He made me laugh the minute that thing dropped 😂
I love that you do this every year! The bananas look perfect in your garden! Thanks for providing me with a reason to smile today!😊
Does Mr. Much More Patient know he is a rock star?
Those bananas are certainly a “project” not for the weak! Thanks for the help of Mr Much More Patient.
Is that Magnus trying to help you? He's getting big!

Up with the puppy ... who seems to need to go out at 4 a.m. regardless of what time he was last out.
Loved the last clip, you gotta laugh in those situations. Thanks MMMP for helping Erin out, I hope you didn’t tweet your backs. Rest easy bananas! 🍌
Is Mr. Much More Patient ever tempted to say “Can’t you just buy a new one next year?”?
Why does even the word "banana" sound so comical? Thanks for helping us laugh today!

Erin,
Many thanks to Mr. Much-More-Patient for his helping hands...& muscles. 😊

Aren’t bananas in the grass family? Like palms?
@@valerieenlow6282 No. They are monocots but grasses.
