- After starting with a cheap G27 I moved into a full Fanatec setup, and after years of use, do I still think it was worth it? I give a tour of my setup from sim rig to computer, and show you the games I play and why as well as what it's like to play them. If you're looking to get into a sim rig, this is a good video to watch!

There is a TON of sim videos on TH-cam, but yours are different. Most of those guys have never seen a real car. Your advice on how it compares to your real car is crucial!

Just started sim racing in December ( got a g920 for Christmas) and I've been loving racing and drifting on assetto and fm7. Really enjoying it, but I'm excited to get a belt driven wheel in a few years when I save up enough money. Really appreciate the vids and showing us all your setup. Thanks for keeping me entertained.
TheLoganater I like the thrustmaster t300/tx wheel as it’s belt driven and super budget friendly

I feel like you haven't tried enough mods for assetto, I have found some that really didn't feel good compared to others. You will find the right mod.
Tbh he was playing with the tando buddies which I feel are really good apart from being loose, especially on the front end. Btw I also play lfs and can switch from one to the other with no problems.
@@imnota tando buddies are about as unrealistic as it gets in assetto lol. You literally just have to get on the gas and it'll drift itself around the track

I’m with you, I get so busy I forgot about sim racing. But honestly every time I go back I get bored within 30 minutes and feel like I’m forcing myself to play. I sold my stuff about a month ago and man it feels great. I didn’t play it much to begin with. I may go get a real cheap set again for just “those times” but honestly if you have access to any real car to do performance driving in or racing I wouldn’t invest a few grand in a setup.

I can see how this can make you a better driver. The proof is in the freedom 500, you was the most composed driver. The cautions and the fact Cleetus's needed to win his own race. IDK I was routing for you the whole race. I feel like your Pisces I could be wrong. You, Brent from PFI, and Rutledge are my favorite automotive personalities. Brent I'm positive is a Pisces, and you should get to know him.
This is creepy , I bought my first " sim gear " yesterday ( Logitech g920 ) and been playing F1 2018 all day, and then you upload a sim related video 😂 that's a pretty good timing 😏
I just bought the G920 as well! Besides the wheel being small I have no complaints

Check out the DWG pack, and the Aussie Drift Co guys. They've got 300hp cars, Pro-Am cars and Comp cars, and are currently reworking the 300s with new improved data.
take some front camber out on some of the mod cars! they all run 4.5-5 or more and make it feel very snappy and understeery. i personally keep it between 3.4-3.7 and it makes the steering feel much more natural with more front end control. also i took your experience into account with softer spring rates in the rear and it 100% helps with the feeling of the cars in assetto. much more forward grip along with lateral if you completely loosen the sway bars. Sadly though none of this will fix the crappy networking with cars skating around and popping in and out during tandems.. still play LFS from time to time just for that.

It really does look incredible but it’s also the cost of all my sim hardware combined. Lol

i started off with a g27 when i was about 9 years old but it broke due to the one of the cords being tripped over i finally bought a g920 last year its been really nice too have again only complaint is dont like how the stock wheel has all the buttons just shoved on it i liked the g27 with its open wheel design im currently mocking up a seat from my car to use on it. its a great wheel overall
Quick tip Taylor is that those cars aren't all that great. Try the WDT pack (World drift tour pack). Those cars are more realistic if you ask me. Also really happy you showed some attention to LFS though. Like no one i talk to evem knows what it is lol
Don't go triple monitors this day and age, go for "Samsung C49RG90 49 inch ultrawide" amazing for sim racing. (Edit:Unless on a budget triples are still cool)
Ive been using a g920 and a lenovo explorer vr headset mounted on a playseat challenge for a couple years now... super budget friendly but and full sim rig regardless.
My family has been into dirt track racing since it started and I would love to see u get in a real dirt car their a lot of fun

Most of the older Miata seats have speakers(or the empty space) in the headrests. Might as well make use of them to assist with immersion! 💪
Easy to unzip the top of the seat to see.
As a motorcycle racer i have to say that i am straight up jealous that you guys can have digital racing that can even come close to the real thing... Find me a bike sim rig that can understand body positioning and i'll be right up on board.
Thumbs up for Live for Speed! Best sim ever ) It kind of getting older these days, but I still like it the most in terms of how car handles and responds to setup changes... Never tried IRacing though.. I can't spend much time now driving it to justify the cost...

I was hoping you posted this update like 2 months ago. I was in the market for a setup and I wanted to get your opinions after you had used it for a while. I ended up buying the same setup you have except I got the csl eite base. I absolutely love it. One of the beat purchase I’ve ever made
LFS ftw I tandemed with you a couple times a few years back :) 33:50 the other cool thing is it helps you remember to blink after you’ve stared at the screen the entire run
That blue car was a Starion/Conquest.
TIP: On dirt, turn your force feed back way down compared to what you run on asphalt, a few points above minimum FFB is a good space to start.
I'm getting ever closer to building my rig. I've settled on getting a super ultrawide monitor, and using trackIR instead of VR for head movement. So I'll have the width of about 2 screens with no bevels, and the ability to turn my head slightly and see out the left or right of the car. Sort of the best of both worlds.
Other than that, somewhere down the line I'm gonna get a motion rig. But I'm NOWHERE near having the money for that lol I can't even afford my gaming PC yet. A guy's gotta have a dream and a goal, though, right?

Stick to the real think dude! That's a decent set of tyres or a few dependent on what you prefer to use lol. An exhaust, a decent engine build, so many more possibilities!
LFS was unbelievable at da time but AC is definitely a step up
33:20 AC has tyre temperature and wear simulation, a lot of the times server owners turn off tyre wear, but temperature simulation is always there
you should try CarX drift racing. me and a buddy get killer tandems all the time in it
You should try the v8 Supercars on irace it is an Australian touring car series I think you would get a kick out of it. It is a very competitive series and you get to race with some of the the best Drivers 👍🏎🏎. Thanks you for all the information on your sim and how you have your sit up I have been thinking about buying a sim for a while now and that was great to see what you run 👍👍

This video deff was informative, been looking at rigs forever, but now since this virus I want one even more. Want to deff get a Set up for PC because I love watching the Iracing videos, and want the realest racing game.not really into the drift sim games but who knows in the future. Want that set up always wanted the fanatec club as a starter set up, but as you research you want the direct drive etc.

In the outlaws on dirt, its easier to control the car by staying in the throttle. Just a tip.
need to get you into some WDT and WDTS cars on assetto. tando buddies are defiantly less of an experience. hope you get into assetto tho it can be so much more fun. but thanks to u im gonna try live for speed

Oculus CV1 has a pretty narrow FOV, updating to something like Valve index would help, instead of going to 3 screen setup that takes alot of space. it has something like 130 degree FOV
Well physics on assetto really depends on who made the car lol, cars like tando, adc, dtp gaya etc aren't the best cars to compare ac to lfs
What cars can you recommend for checking? I just play assetto and it doesn't seem very real compared to LFS or Furidashi.

If you plan on playing assetto more in future give the adc cars and tracks a go. Dwg have some good additions to the game too

With Assetto i've found that a lot of the cars in the mod packs are cool but they are setup horribly from the start. Go into the pits before the race and play with alignment and tyre pressures and you will find a massive improvement. Some cars like the one you are driving are horrible from the pack but just need some tweaking to make drive great.
I genuinely think a lot of "Jank" in AC is caused by bad settings and mod cars that are designed badly or for specific goals.
Completely true. AC's physics aren't perfect (I still prefer pacejka tire model for some things) and there's some sizeable bugs, but the bugs can all be worked around very well (Or are fixed with Custom Shader Patch) and the genuine issues either don't apply to drifting or even most forms of driving, or are quite subtle issues which are difficult to even quantify as to how wrong it really is. It's almost completely down to the physics creator and choice of car (Monster trucks and tanks might not work so well), and then there's just some minor issues left over. All of the super visible stuff is purely due to bad design.

Best advice I could give for assetto is to try different mods as there have been many mods released in the last 12 months.
tando cars do exactly what they were designed for which is cars for anyone to just jump in and tandem easily.
try out akuma workshop cars, downsyde garage (dsg), death wish garage (dwg).
All those cars feel far better and have more grip.
Jump on risky friends discord and grab the works9 s14, that car feels great.
iRacing is pay to play, it gets expensive and you have to pay quarterly subscription fee's.
Assetto Corsa is more adjustable and it takes a lot of time/ trial and error to get all the different cars dialled which can be frustrating when you just wanna rip.
Live for speed is the most dialled for what we all want and Taylor demonstrated exactly what we need.
Project cars is another good one to get into if ya wanna try everything.

Fair… but personally I find the physics in project cars to be atrocious. It’s maybe okay for formula racing, but anything else and it just feels weird. It sucks because I love having such a graphically polished game with tons of cars and licenses, but frankly I feel like you’d get better physics out of freaking Forza than pcars :( it really shouldn’t be like that

you should try World drift tour mod for assetto. They have comprtition cars and a street pack too.
If you gonna compare a game to game feeling then atleast use the wdts car pack on AC , they also have tire wear and can pop aswell

Sort of random, but have you gone as far as a tactile transducer/subwoofer for road feel? That's probably one of the biggest things that sold me was going to a E3 show way back in 2006 and actually feeling the vibration in the seat. Huge game changer even on the G25s they were demo'd with back then.
agreed that the vr does get old after a few hours and isn't as comfortable as having multiple monitors. i preordered the index and refunded it the next day. way too overhyped
Sounds like you need to grease your pedals a little bit lol they're a bit squeaky. that's the problem with nice pedals lol gotta maintain them. speaking of i should probably grease mine before i go for a rip
my take away is a lot of people that were in the Freedom 500 should have a lower safety rating.
You should check out trackIR for an alternative to tripple monitor and vr

I have clubsport V1 pedals, that's how long I have them. No need to upgrade. The GT2 wheel had no force feedback other than center until you turned it 90 degrees, it really sucked. But I now own a small MiGE, oh hells yes OSW FTW. Also the shifter with the GT2 also sucked, so thrustmaster th8rs for H and a alfa romeo sele something shifter conversion for sequential. I'm considering the new fanatec shifter. It's pretty funny how I little I play racing games after getting a direct drive, I was already playing slower paces driving games. But still I will keep the open sim wheel for life, it's awesome

You should look I to trading paints app for iRacing, can run realistic custom skins that people make, and it’s free
It'd really do you some good to not use rubbish in AC like Tando with inaccurate geometry, tires, aero, engine, everything and 10 meter long inertia boxes. Any of my physics replacement mods on Racedepartment with D cars (AE86, FD, E30) should be good, alongside Teekhy/Trawa S14 and TougeWorkshop IIRC. Simsquad 1:1 pack is also good, a bit outdated in physics but I've put some work in to help him update it and maybe there'll come an update at a later time. That should be very solid.
There's not a lot of good drift mods out there, almost all of them are private or WIP. Goes for mods in general. The amount of people in the community who can even make high level physics for cars can be counted on two hands.
LFS is great been n that for years before S1
You can get more in iRacing for less money if you time it right.
Lolol 410s are the hardest thing in iracing to drive right?. Very little steering input. Its all throttle modulation. They have like 12in of rear tire stagger so you steer with the rear of the car.
Hey @TaylorDrifts what model(s) of Fanatec gear do you have: Wheel, hub, shifter, pedals, etc? Static paddle shifters?
Just getting started again with an old Logitech Driving Force GT wheel & pedals with an Asus TUF ROG laptop. Hadn't played in nearly 15 years.
