  • Places which combine work, play, and “family” have the opportunity to be the backdrop of our lives, in ways that we never could have imagined just a few years ago.
I call these spaces Venues for Life, because that’s what they really are.
My work in the design and development of climbing facilities across the country over the last decade, and now across the world has shown me this, but it’s also opened the door to what the next iteration of these “Venues for Life” can be.
As someone who was fortunate to discover rock climbing nearly 27 years ago as a short, skinny, uninspired 15 year old, I can personally attest to the power and transformative power that an activity can have on our lives.
From daycare/ coworking, to climbing/ work/ event spaces, to workspace/ recording studios/ skateparks, to sports/ workspaces/ camps, these are serious businesses which are truly at the center of their user’s lives.
The businesses that do this well, are run by people who’ve lived these experiences in their own lives, so they “get it” in the deepest way possible. That’s why it comes across as authentic, and not just a series of buzz words stuck together in a business model.
Regardless of the specific business, it’s the same story. Someone who has a particular series of lived experiences which changed the direction in their lives, and is looking to help share that and develop what that means with other people.
That’s why I focus on this line of thinking, and the future is bright…
