What a ride! Thanks so much for this talk!! I read a lot of Barker in my youth (ages ago) and rediscovered him last year, because our bookclub put Imajica on the reading list. It was a first for me and blew me away. I'm reading and re-reading Barker ever since. He's such a great writer, I'm rather embarassed what crap I read in the meantime... I discovered you guys on the Hellraiser 2 special features and am really glad for that. Going to listen to all of what's here. :)
I just found a first edition version of this book at a goodwill, along eith several other Clive Barker books. However, in this book particularly, whomever owned it, has made notes on almost every page as if they were developing it for a screenplay or storyboarding it out. It severely drops the first edition aspect but adds this layer of mystic that is fittting for a Clive Barker read.
@@anarchyxtra7795 whatever version you get make sure you have book 1 and 2. Although it would probably be easier to get a hold of than the separate books.
I know you have said in the past not to start with this one for Clive Barker, but upon hearing all of your videos talking about it, I have never wanted to read a book so much. Your Clive Barker discussions are incredible, I glean so much from them. I really hope to hear more. Love all of your stuff George.
If anyone asks for a book recommendation from me, this is it. Absolutely my favorite book ever. Full disclosure, the first time I didn't fully get it but it still called to me. On the second reading I wept. I got it, and now, many, many moons later it's still the best, most profound book I've ever read. I'm gonna stop gushing and end with...take a deep breath and read💙💙
I found it left on a wall near where I lived. Someone had bought it and it had the shop receipt in the plastic bag. It submerged me into this realm that my imagination just exploded with visions of the different levels. One of the best books I have read. Aztec by Gary Jennings is the other one that is one of my best reads ever.
I never got to finish weave world, I moved and lost the book, after having read the great and secret show. So my mom introduced me to this type of authorship... She was a big King Fan. Alfred Hitchcock, Kristy and so forth... Barker was not on her list I just found his work reading what my mom read.
Thank you so much:) love this. I first read imajica in 94 and it still has an incredible draw to me. I attempted to read it again a few years ago but didn't make it. I've always been shocked that more people dont seem to be aware of it and how incredible it is. I'm totally fired up to get into this again now. Thank you. I've found you guys on TH-cam but is this available as a podcast as well?
I have always seen Yahweh as satan and Jesus as trying to destroy him and I feel like this book was barkers way of making that statement. Jesus was trying to destroy the belief in gods who expect worship and sacrifice much like gentle
The second reading is much better! You learn so much again and see the points you might've missed on the first reading. This book is fantastic! There's so much to unlock. I dont agree with some of the points that are stated here, but you all seem to get the best points and point our certain things that might've been missed. I felt a certain sadness when the book ended. The book was so good and captured the imagination in so many ways. You can see the care put into the book and themes.
Ok, hear me out. To put Imajica on film picture the work of Ralph Bakshi and the effect of rotoscopeing like in the animated version of The Lord of the Rings from 1978, or thereabouts, crossed with Henson puppetry like in The Dark Crystal. The possibilities are endless. It would have to be done as a series. A single 2 hour movie wouldn't be able to encompass the entire arc. Oh it could be glorious!!! Thanks for your discussion this is my favorite book ever, I can't tell you how many times I've read or listened to this one. It's always nearby.💙💙💙

My favorite book, still have the original copy that could barely fit on the shelf!
This is my favorite Clive Barker book

I love this book. I did a research paper on heretical writing in college and I used this as my primary source.
Which version is best to get ? The original ?

My favorite book of his. Was so fun to read.

I looooved this book, yeessss.
Best book I've ever read, closely followed by Weaveworld, also by Barker
Weaveworld was one of my favorites. Why it's not a movie or TV series on Netflix Hulu or whoever kills me.
I never got to finish weave world, I moved and lost the book, after having read the great and secret show.

The Tulpa Diane from Twin Peaks:The Return reminds me of Judith.
