And yeah once he thought of that better punchline, he literally could NOT wait to get it out.

I never realized that in this really famous bit there was actually a break in the middle for an advertisement and because the most popular representation of this podcast moment is from an animation clip where they edited the add out, it's just a really cool thought that like editors have just as much a role in writing the history of any creative thing as much as the Creators themselves.
