As a paramedic who spent 3 years working downtown Myrtle I can assure you it’s not safe. I’ve responded to multiple shootings, assaults, countless drug overdoses on the streets and beach itself. There’s a reason the MBPD have started flushing the boulevard at night. It’s a mess down there. This video is one man’s perspective of just an hour or two of walking around. I’d recommend north Myrtle or surfside but steer clear or the south end.

Lol I’ve lived here well over a decade. I go downtown literally all the time. How many years ago was this? Because sure we’ve had I think one shooting where no one was even hurt this year and was basically an accidental discharge. The city is experiencing a nearly 20% drop in all crime over the last 5 years and a LOT has to do with the yellow cap program. NO city is without all crime, but comparably? Can you name a SINGLE other city full of millions of people peak season on the east coast where you can take your children downtown for the night? Because I’ve lived in NY, DC, Baltimore and lemme tell YOU lol you don’t wanna be a paramedic on those streets I bet. Maybe in 2001 or whatever it was worse but again, the proof is in the pudding.

We received a comment recently on this topic. Asking us why we would “promote” Myrtle Beach when it’s nothing but a haven for crime. We responded in a similar way, as we have never experienced any trouble on any of our trips over the years- and we hit the downtown area at night on every occasion. Good work here.

Whooowee! It’s about to be the FANCIEST area in town pretty soon! Lots of young families buying into the area, and new shops opening but that will be the epicenter of the city’s new ‘arts and innovation’ district which will be kinda like market commons so, it’s gonna be much nicer soon but yeah, I usually park back there at night when it’s busy because it’s free.
You know, like most cities we DO have a homeless population, but, for real if you know the phrase ‘sorry bud, I don’t have any cash on me’ the response you’ll usually get is ‘no problem god bless’.

Of course there’s better and worse parts of town. But the tourist section is perfectly fine day or night. Most folk wouldn’t have much reason to travel west from the boulevard, and with the new updates to the downtown area it’s going to bring big changes to the surrounding area as well.
