I prefer sleeved race kits because on longer distance races, I tend to chafe on my arm pits and with the sleeves during the run, it eliminates the skin to skin rubbing on my armpits when I sway my arms while running. BIG difference maker.
Good, I’m glad the competition keeps wanting to wear sleeveless :). One thing you didn’t mention, sleeves cover arm pits which makes for a better race photo.
I wear a sleeved suit for the sun protection. I found a lot of the sleeveless style suits also have a large cut out in the back, which is a pain have to try putting sunscreen there. I almost always wear a sun top/rash vest when I go swimming, so I’m pretty used to feeling the material around my shoulders/biceps.
I race short course so I wear sleeveless tri suits, plus I having a bum shoulder shoulder swimming having a sleeve makes it a little easier to swim. I've tried short sleeve Tri suits, but yet found one that fits me well... But I also have more than one short sleeve suits, so... It's not a big deal. If I'm concerned about sunburn or something really bad like that, I'll just put on a short-sleeve shirt in T1 over the suit.
Sleeveless all the way. Less movement restriction while swimming. Staying just a tad bit cooler while running. And my cycling isn't on par with my running and swimming so the aerodynamic advantage is neglectable at my speed 😂
For me, front zipped sleeved suits are very hard to remove, especially when wet. Pulling them back off the shoulders then down is frustrating. The few sleeved suits I have are rear zipped, which are hard to find. And then zipping up a rear zipped is not easy. If you do get a sleeved rear zipped suit, make sure it has a cord attached. One of the first ones I bought didn’t, and I had to attach a string myself. All that said, primarily for sun protection, I prefer sleeved. Basal-cell melanoma is no joke ... the more protection I can get the better.
3:40 OMG, wearing a tri suit one time, five minutes before the start, all of a sudden have to go to the bathroom... then the zipper jams on the tri suit 😀😃😄... It was close but I made it in time back to the start 🙂.
Thanks again guys, it’s great how you give an unbiased explanation of pros and cons. Personally I go with a longer sleeve to cover my tattoo, because it’s a personal thing to me in memory of someone special, and I don’t want it to fade, or to be judged for having one, but it is special to me and I would not be without it for the world. I have often wondered though, why don’t the produce one with a chamois you could “whip out” as you hit T2, for added comfort on the run? I can think of a couple of ways it could be done, straight off the top of my head.
Compared to last year, I was 11-seconds slower this year at the 2XU Malibu Triathlon using a full wetsuit versus a sleeve-less previous year. (1.5k swim and conditions were more glassy with 1-3 foot waves.) A sleeveless suit gives more mobility and comfort. My kick is not that great, but I have a long waist and long arms; thus, I need mobility. I really dig into the water and have a high turnover with a kayak-style stroke. (Not like the great Ian Thorpe, but more like Alexander Popov.) IMO and your mileage may vary. If one take longer than 30-min to swim a mile, long sleeves
I LOVE sleeved tri suits, they also offer sun protection for your lower back in case a two piece top rides up. The only drawback for me is like you said, rest stops. Women’s suits often have an addiction top, sports bra piece, and it can be a nightmare when you are wet. 😹
You’ll probably want to have a sleeveless tri suit, even if you also have one with sleeves. No sleeves is best for pool triathlons and non wetsuit swims. There is no choice with age group kit, so you might get used to it (unless you prefer long distance races).
i'm going for a sleeveless kit with back zipper for Short distance racing but would go for a sleeved one with front zipper as soon as I'd go to longer distances
I prefer sleeves. Just for one reason…I sweat a lot….I’m constantly wiping my face with the sleeve. Did one race without a sleeve and had nothing to wipe off the sweat…it was miserable :).
I used to use sleveless, then I got suckered into buying a HUUB Anamio, which supposedly will save me 15 watts on the bike. Only problem it's not designed for someone with biceps :) Great suit, it's that light I think the price is accounted for by the anti-gravity technology that it contains...but my arm (and thighs) barely fit in.
Embarrassed to say, but not shaving/waxing, so sleeved to hide the hair, but over the last few year's, I'm starting to look like Austin Power's! Decisions may need to be made! 🤨.
Why in the name of all that is holy aerodynamic...is ANYONE wearing a race bib on the bike? This is not a requirement anywhere in the US. It is completely unnecessary. Is it an Aussie or a Brit thing? if so, it completely defeats all of the marginal aero gains you paid hundreds of $$ for on your bike.

That's what armpit hair is for.
@@marekholub8668 armpit hair is not aero 😂
Tan lines at the end of a race are the least of my worries. Not dying before the finish line is my first.

Thanks, you guys are amazing!

Sleeveless for better tan lines

Sleeves are vital for sparing the public from the sight of my scrawny arms and tan lines
A trick : you can watch series on flixzone. I've been using it for watching lots of of movies these days.
@Emerson Wilson definitely, been watching on flixzone} for months myself :D
@Emerson Wilson Yup, I have been using Flixzone} for since november myself :D

Same, I have my entire back, arms and chest tattooed so I go for sleeves all day every day
Sleeves as I can then use it as a skin suit in a TT seems mad to have both.

I do shorter distances and I prefer 2 piece sleeveless. I have yet to find a sleeved shirt or suit that is comfortable
I like sleeves. I even put on white foreman/elbow compression sleeves to keep cool and be less exposed to the sun.

sleeveless.. i can really appreciate the sleeveless on the Run
What about sleeved vs sleeves wetsuits / swim skins?
i'm going for a sleeveless kit with back zipper for Short distance racing but would go for a sleeved one with front zipper as soon as I'd go to longer distances

Why are sleeves typically better for long course?
Aerodynamics
@@jippevandrogenbroek754 How are sleeves more aero?
If you buy right size it should be very tight which means more aero, also sleeve trisuits will protect you from the sun
Great tips 👌

Nice info
0:10 (cough) ah... yes... let's not discuss the small 'collection' of tri suits 😎.
I prefer sleeved suit to protect myself from sun (skin cancer). I train in Malaysia...
Or if they're a PTWC paratriathlete
I prefer sleeved TriSuit
I have to wear sleeveless or else I feel claustrophobic
Two-piece, sleeved. Every time.
If you have to go just #1, do you just piss yourself?
Yup, if you want to be like Lionel sanders then you go #2 in your kit as well

Sleeve for me...I looked more handsome wearing sleeve rather than wearing sleeveless 😂
💪
Sleeves, all day.
Sleeveless chafe and look horrendous unless your the size of a pro
Abolish Sleevery!
This is what you guys worry about?
