    Wow, I have rarely seen a rear end that works so well. On many other bikes you can see in slow motion that the rear triangle or the damper stops working if there are too many small impacts and gets stuck. That's not the case here at all and you can see how the tire sticks to the ground. But this is also thanks to the correct settings on the Fox

    8:00 I owned an EP8, and the fact that the power cuts out whenever you pedal at high cadence really ruined it for me. I switched to the Bosch Gen 4 and it's night and day. So much better.

    I seriously considered this bike but the weight and the EP-801 put me off.
    My Whyte E-160s was around 26-27kg and that is just too much to get into my car, haul onto uplifts etc.
    I went for a Spesh Turbo Levo instead and I’m very pleased with it, despite the inferior suspension.

    Looks great but if they're so focussed on value for the end user, why not offer a frameset or buid kit option with fork and rear shock so you're not swapping out the basic (touch points etc) parts immediately ? Environmentally it's crazy to be speccing basic parts they know most people will swap out straight away !

      Exactly this. Why aren't these companies doing ebike framesets? Just a nice frame, motor and battery. It's what I'm waiting for as I have all the higher end components I like to use all here ready to build up. Buying a cheaper model donor bike still seems too expensive.😢

    Own and loving the bike - great to see a good review of it as always a gamble pre-ordering a new bike. One thing I will comment is a lot of riders do laps and loop spots where having two smaller batteries is prefered, I hope we get to the point where more manufacturers can offer multiple battery options and two smaller batteries is an option.

    In your opinion Rob, how have you found the reliability of Shimano vs the many other brands that you test?
    Most bikes are spot on with geo, specs etc but the motor system has to be on point wouldn’t you say?

    Your scale maybe showing 26.000KG (it's pretty hard to nail down 3 decimal points) because max weight capacity of your scale is 25KG. I wonder if the scale just maxed out which means the actual weight of the bike is even more than 26KG. Of course this doesn't mean the bike is bad by any means.

But broke off a piece of a frame because the little M5 bolts on my Bosch CX came loose and developed play and blew out a mounting hole of the bigger M8 bolts. Bike was less than 2 years old and around 4000km. Bike discount (Radon reseller) said it wasnt properly checked by my dealer and didn't want to do anything, except give a new part of the frame for €1000. You think you buy a new 6K bike at least you have some warranty... No more Radon for me...

    What height are you? I am 187cm and have a rather short inseam of 87cm. 490-495mm reach would be perfect for me, but the bike has a fairly short effective top tube length of 615mm in size P3 (L), but a perfect reach of 490mm. For me, an effective top tube length of approx. 435-440mm and a reach of 490-495mm would be perfect. The P4 size would have an effective top tube length of 642, but then a reach of 515, which is absolutely too much. However, the effective top tube length only plays a role when sitting; when standing, the reach and stack are important. The stack in size P3 is relatively small at 638mm, but I can simply install a handlebar with a lot of rise, that's not a problem. The XL frames from Santa Cruz or Propain are always the perfect size for me, whether sitting or standing. Or the Mondraker frames in size L are also very good.

    • @RobRidesEMTB
      @RobRidesEMTB  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, I am 190cm and the P3 worked great. I'd prob put a higher rise bar on (in fact that was my intention as soon as I got it, but I actually got on quite well with stock bar height). Also, as I test a lot of bikes, on paper they all look different in reach / stack and geo, but your body adapts to these differences really quickly. I can actually ride bikes from 480 reach right up to 525 and still ride all the trails just as well on both extremes - obviously there are differences in how they ride, but now with slack head angles and decent weight placement on ebikes (low cengres of gravity) even shorter bikes feel inherently stable... Once you get your bike you can play with stem / bar height and even go for reach adjust headset if you want to fine tune

    Long chainstay means less weight on the rear wheel, so less traction rather than more while climbing.

    • @RobRidesEMTB
      @RobRidesEMTB  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes - but much easier to find balance with longer rear, stop the front lifting and allow the rear to dig in and drive the bike forward. Short chainstay on XL bike delivers more weight bias towards the rear centre, resulting in too much weight on the rear and needing more forward body language input- thus needing a shifting of body weight towards the front of the bike.

    • @DaBinChe
      @DaBinChe 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In theory this might be true but in practice longer stays has more traction climbing than short. Other things including center balance and such also play into rear climbing traction. I almost always spin out on my shorter stay (432mm) bike vs longer stay (440mm) bike. Both use same tires, pressure, sag, even almost same travel 141mm vs. 138mm, both Horst Link 4 bar. In fact both bikes are direct competitors to each other, the only real difference between the two is geometry but only a small amount. Also find this to be true with hardtails too and even singlespeeds, where the longer stays has more traction on climbs, especially on tech climbs.
