Helping a Long-Time Widow Organize Her Collections

- Jane has lived in her home for 50 years and has been widowed for about that same amount of time. Over the years, she has collected many things either for herself or for family or friends and now needs some help to arrange all of her collections into categories and in a way where she can access everything so she can start to declutter. In this video, I am working with Jane's niece, Lynnita, to organize everything, something she loves to do and is very good at. You will fall in love with "Aunt Jane" and her spitfire personality. She is quite a character! And if you ever need a "choice box," well, Jane has the choicest of boxes.

Jane was so adorable. And you can tell shes naturally funny without trying to put on a show. Thats how you are as well😁
🥹❤️😊🥰
Jane's binders and books reminds me of me about a year ago. I had a ton of empty binders and books in bookshelves and stacked everywhere in the house. I finally pulled all the binders and donated them. I had 26 of them just sitting in the basement. Then over the past year I have been sorting my books into keep, sell, donate. Today I finally organized my remaining books into my library in the living room. I have half a shelf left and no stacked books anywhere else. I'm so pleased and proud of myself. I just had to give myself grace and time to finish the process.
You go, girl! ❤
Gosh so much stuff. It's made me realise that once we pass, all our stuff will have very little to no meaning to anyone but ourselves and we leave everything behind for someone else to put in the trash or give away.
It's something to think about, that's for sure. Have you heard of "Swedish Death Cleaning?" It is such an interesting decluttering strategy. I see all that ladies stuff and I feel bad for whomever inherits it. It would take months to go through all those boxes. Plus, if things are special, just display them! Why keep things that are meaningful to you hidden away in boxes?
@@madzabinga8382 Yes I have heard of the Swedish Death cleaning. I go through my various rooms throughout the year and get rid of things. When I get older, I will reduce to minimum! I work with the elderly, and see how much stuff they have, and most don't ever clear out and leave it to their relatives. 99% goes into the bin as everyone has their own stuff and no room for more.
I am at the place in my life where I am realizing that no one is going to want my "stuff" nor dealing with getting rid of it. Many years ago my daughter told me she would back a truck up to the house and shovel the Christmas crap on it to then go to the dump. I know what I have to do, but finding the energy and will power to let go seems impossible on most days.
@@rebeccaashton5390 You need to phone a friend. Seriously, it's so overwhelming! Even though it's our crap, it's our mess, in our house, it's ok to ask for help. I know that can be tough, but some people actually love decluttering, cleaning, and organizing and would be more than willing to help you!
@@rebeccaashton5390 Start in the smallest room in your house and build up from there.
She needs to turn that room into an official library. It even has a fireplace for a cozy reading nook. Rows of securely placed tall bookshelves with books on both sides- just like a library- would make this room a joy instead of a horror.
That spider thing had me laughing so hard 😂😂😂
I'm always here to entertain you, Mack. 😄
Oh my goodness, Bonnie! I am terrified of big spiders too! You reminded me of my reactions when I see one, lol
Belatedly watching this lovely video :) Like so many people who have too much stuff Jane is extremely generous and resourceful. I bet that most of what’s in her house was saved or sourced for the benefit of other people. I’d love to know how she gets along with the rest of the process. I have confidence that what you guys did helped her a lot. Go Auntie Jane!
I love how Jane said she just needed you to break up the iceberg so she could get to everything. Makes sense to me! I feel you about the spiders!
Me too. Though my problem is MUCH larger when it comes to snakes. No matter if they are poisoseneus.😱
Jane is someone I need progress updates on. I love her.
I got tickled over the stack of children’s chairs, like she was running a kindergarten or something!
I know. Wasn't that the cutest thing ever?
I kept looking at the changing table in the attic.😳 Could you suggest a donation to a daycare or women’s shelter?
My mom passed away 2 years ago. She and my step dad lived on a farm. It's not a dairy farm, more of a hobby farm. She had horses at one time, but now it's just my 87-year-old step dad on the farm. They came from a generation that didn't get rid of much. So, now it's left to me to handle. I'm a little resentful of this because I've asked over the years for them to downsize some of those unused things, but to no avail. I'm a single woman who works full-time and trying to handle a mountain of things such as this is overwhelming. Seeing this video just makes me more aware of the huge task I'm facing alone in the future.
I guess I'll take it one barn, one out building, and one house room by room at a time.
I understand and sympathize with you 🤍🌺
Same situation here
Would it be possible for you to hire someone to help you?
@@yvonnelewis4888yeah, like an estate sale company. Many can do downsizing sales, to complete clean-outs. That way items find new love with someone else, the weight of the task is taken off her shoulders, and money is made for the family. Wins all around 😊
Sounds like a huge undertaking. As someone mentioned, there are usually people who will take on that task for you and you still get a portion of the proceeds from the sale of items, but you don't have to do the entire job yourself. Good luck!
So funny y'alls reaction to the spider.
😁
You have to do what the client wants, and it sounds like she’s getting ready to have a big sort and declutter, it would be wonderful to check in on her and get a progress update if that’s at all possible
I would love to get an update on how it's going. I have so many things going on right now, though, that I'm not sure when I would be able to make it back there. But maybe in a couple of months, I can see how things are going.
I wish you were in my area. I would love to hire someone like you to help me organize my collections! Great video!
We all know the value of a "choice" box!!!
You did what she wanted you to do! That's what's important 😊
Galloping horses in the shed 🤣 So many empty boxes. My mother (who was a hoarder and now deceased) had hundreds of empty boxes and I have no idea why. Mira is such a sweet lady, nice you could help her out. Keep up the good work, job well done..
Jane is obviously is a lady who is a lover of knowledge and learning. She really cares about her library.
My goodness so much. And so much work. That’s way too much for one person. Good luck ladies
I'm here 'cause Midwest Magic Cleaning said you were awesome, and he was sooooo right. Thank you for being so awesome! Also, I have a craft room that needs something like this, and now I am inspired, thank you again!
Welcome!! Thanks for checking out my Channel at Mack's recommendation. 😊🫶
Lots of energy in these rooms-you probably helped her more than you know.
If nothing else, days spent bringing order to STUFF helps those who will be ultimately responsible for dealing with it. I don't mean that to be grim, it's just as we know, most of the time people who enjoy/keep/etc this level of stuff don't aggressively downsize. So chipping away before it's inherited makes a difference.
The kindness and help we give people today matters, even if there's more clutter or reversion later. And sometimes that even sparks change.
💯
Jane is absolutely adorable ❤
I think you both did a amazing job on this and she loves it so you know you did a great job. God bless you 🙏❤️🌹
I’m always surprised at how HUGE these projects are! You’re an Angel for all the help you give to people 🩵
I wanna grow up and be sort like jane
What 2 lovely ladie you have spent time with
Loved Jane. Thank you for introducing her to us
Just so much stuff !! 😱😂💐
Jane posing in the shots is giving me life.
My husband makes me get the spiders. I put them outside. 😂
Mine too. If there is a black beauty with long legs and shiny black hair sitting on his bed - he screams "Put that spider away!"
I know. I just fell in love with Jane. She's just so positive and happy about life.
Occasionally I will take a spider outside, but only if I know they aren't fast. Those grass spiders are one of the faster species, which is why they freak me out so bad. I feel like somehow they're going to escape and crawl up my arm.😬
I am also the spider capture and release person!
I love this video. I'm so happy you got paid for it and that she was so willing to help go through her own things and declutter. This video has a much needed healthier vibe for you.
Oh dear.. Oh dear. Bless your heart. I had to come to terms with the idea that when we croak my kids will just call for a dumpster, lol
BTW trying to prepare myself for flying spiders on the way. Trauma!
Yes, unfortunately, to most people, it's just stuff without all the sentiment. 😁
Another fantastic job, Bonnie! Glad you had an energetic & fun helper too!❤
Oh wow. I loved this video. I so wish Jane was my Aunt. She is fabulous. Just to sit down and talk about life with her would be amazing. Considering I'm in Australia. Well done Bonnie, you looked like you had fun. Xx
That would be a monumental task!
Spidergate was hilarious 😂 felt bad for the spider though 😅 great team!
😁👍❤️
Jane is so fun! I love some of her sayings throughout the video.
Right?! She was cracking me up!
Very clean!!! She does a great job managing her house.
❤️❤️❤️
Interesting video and good organization for safer access. Whether for elders, disabled or anyone, it helps prevent tripping hazards and potential accidents. I understand her appreciation for good boxes. I also understand that sometimes we fear some animals or insects over others without wanting to hurt them. I can relate to that. This video was very encouraging because everyone was tuned in to the same goals of decluttering. There was no pressure on Jane. Great job, ladies❣️👍
Well said. Thank you!
You’re most welcome. Have a great day. 😍
Jane is the sweetest!!! And the niece was fantastic and good worker. Had to skip the spider section. Heebe geebees.
😅👍
Omg haven't started watching yet but those books look so yummy! I would love to get my grubby paws on those tracks. Me so jelly!
❤️
❤🧹Binging your vids to hopefully help the algorithms 🧹❤
What a beautiful lady I bet you she will sort it all would love if you went back some time ❤❤❤❤❤
God Bless you Jane! How sad that we get older & have to give up the things we loved. You're an inspiration. 🤗🕊
Awesome job. Now she can access the stuff and sort through it.
She's a doll. Great job ladies 😊
I and my aunt are missing a lumbar vertebrae! It's always something isn't it? Thank you Jane for sharing your home with us all!
Well, it seems there are plenty of us who have an extra one. Maybe we all need to get together and just swap some vertebraes. 😄
I can totally respect and understand Jane’s thought process. It’s quite genius to have you ladies get it all organized so she can sort. Love this!!!
I have so much respect for Jane. She sounds like such an independent woman. You two were a great team! I am so glad you had someone with you, to organise all the stuff, and fight that spider. Haha! 🕷Jane's house looks a little like an archive or an old library. 📚 There is a lot of clutter, but probably also some old treasures. That's what's makes it so interesting to sort it all out! Well done you two for not getting overwhelmed, and follow Janes orders. 😉😘💙🤍 X Coline
I absolutely loved this video❤ Jane and her niece are wonderful. You did an amazing job!
Thank you so much!
So much stuff! At least you all got it organised so Jane has easier access to it.
Thanks for another video, Bonnie! Jane is a hoot! ♥and I'm glad you and Lynnita got along so well... even with the tailbones! LOL! I, too, don't like spiders; but I will leave them alone if they're not in my house! Looking forward to seeing your video on Mira's patio! ♥🌻
It is kind of funny that I can be totally okay with spiders when I'm out working in the yard as long as I can see them and know they aren't going to crawl on me. However, moving a pile of wood or something, I am on high alert since I just know they are going to start crawling up my arm and I'm going to drop my load of stuff. Otherwise, they are just fine. 😊
Jane is amazing and certainly knows how she wants things sorted. She certainly has a lot of collections. Omg the box collection is huge but it’s fantastic she has someone to take some and has no problem giving them away either. Lynnita and yourself worked great together. Omg spiders, I don’t like them but I’m superstitious and won’t kill them either. It was great Jane let you post this when it was a paid job too. It’d be great if you could get more of these too. Have a great week and enjoy yer camping trip. Mary, Joes wife 🙇♀️👏💪👍💐🙏📦🎁📚📒
You are so right, Jane is absolutely adorable and humorous! 😊 I might be having a bit of a panic attack at this moment, though, thinking about having to clean out my parents' house when the time comes. 😉 And the white and yellow pages -- I totally forgot about phone books, it's been so long since I've used one. 😂 (PS, that console table you were dusting was gorgeous! 😍)
Yeah, I know you and I have already talked about how I'm going to clean out my parents' house. There might be arson involved... haha! Just kidding. I'm actually helping my mom clear out her garage and go through other things in their house. I am pretty surprised at how much they have already gotten rid of. And now we are filling her garage back up with stuff for the Whatnot auctions. 😅
It is amazing how much stuff accumulates and it doesn't take long. It is easier to get rid of some every day than to declutter it all at once.
LMAO with the spider. I get spider crickets and they TERRIFY ME! Jane is adorable!!!🥰
The spider part was very relatable, lol. I can handle snakes and rodents, but keep those spiders away! Great job organizing.
😁👍
THis was so awesome Jane is os special. Thank you for helping her get organized.
Awe!! This organizing video was so much fun! Jane is super cute indeed- what a lovely lady! You did a wonderful job getting her collections in order so she can pare them down! ❤🎉
Loved this - such nice and funny ladies! The spider escapade… “Will you watch him?” 🤣🤣🤣
😁👍
Hallo Jane, what a gorgeous gal! What interesting stuff! 🤯
You are great to not pass judgment.
That was fun! Gotta love sweet ladies like that. Good job!
Jane was exactly as I pictured - feminine, delicate and with a competent and capable feel about her that went deep! I have never ever seen such a large collection kept in such pristine immaculate condition. Her hoard piles were more organised that my actual organised stuff - everything was neat a pin. Good on her for getting help for herself 😊😊
I do!! I have the extra floating vertebrae
Hi Bonnie! You mentioned that your channel has not been doing very well lately. May I suggest that one of the reasons could be that you changed the type of content you make? It used to be more about cleaning and now it's mostly just organizing stuff. We don't even see much of decluttering. It's ok when a video includes decluttering (throwing away), organizing and cleaning (like Mack does), but when it's just organizing it can be less satisfying for your subscribers. I, too, enjoyed watching you clean. Just s thought. I liked it when you made a video of cleaning your home recently. It helped me to understand that my house is not as bad as it seemed to me, and that it's just normal to have some dust and dog fur ☺️
I understand the hopeless feeling of being overwhelmed and having absolutely no idea where to start organizing this much “stuff”. You have the help you need Jane and I know your stress will soon dissipate over this seemingly impossible task.
Finally became a member! ❤❤❤
Oh, thank you!😘🙏
Jane is beautiful. That is a very clean attic. Thank you and her niece for helping her.
OMG!! I dream of attics and attics leading to spaces all the time!! I’ve always wonder the meaning of them.
Jane is a hoarder, bless her heart! She is adorable.
I'd be careful about using that label. Hoarding is a mental health disorder with a lot of stigma attached, and Jane appears to be quite far from meeting the criteria.
@@jlaurelcThank you for saying this. Other than owning a tremendous amount of stuff, I don't see any characteristics of hoarding. She gladly asked for help, didn't interfere with the sorting process to rescue things, and she was looking forward to donating things. She impressed me as being well-balanced and emotionally healthy. I'd love to have her for a friend! 😊
She did proclaim herself a hoarder, although, as was mentioned, she is now willing to part with stuff, just needed better access to it.
@@ABeautifulMessExtremeCle-zl1wp - That's good to know, for accuracy's sake. I still think it's a label we should avoid putting on someone else, though. There's just so much baggage with it.
@@jlaurelc Absolutely, I agree. I was mostly posting that response to the original comment, not necessarily to you because I also don't like using that label and, in fact, prefer to say "someone with hoarding disorder," but I actually don't even know if Jane is a true hoarder or just has accumulated too much over the years, so I wouldn't want to make that call without an official diagnosis.
I wish I lived near her to help sort, what a great lady!!!
Another great video. The homeowner has a great sense of humor. Enjoy your camping trip. Love and hugs to you, as always.
Isn't she funny? 😄
Well, it's back to work tomorrow I know I have a mountain of Embroidery waiting on me to do. I guess I missed it but I am so glad I have finally got my kitchen and dining area decluttered and organized. Thank you so much Bonnie I could have never doe it without you.
Congratulations! 🥳
👏❣️🍀
I'm so happy for you to have gotten that done! Enjoy some embroidering. 😘🙏
Hello. New subscriber with my new channel. Inspired by Mira in the help that you have given her, I've created this channel for me to make my own effort to clean small spaces, I don't have help and I can't pay someone either but I've decided to do it for myself, because I don't want to reach to be very old and that the disorder has been in my room and my home for more years. Physically, I've pain from several incidents of small personal accidents, but I know that I can get through it, in pain but motivated by watching your videos and Mira's ones. Thank you very much for all the advice and that energy you transmit. God bless you 🙏🏻
That is amazing that you have started your own channel to do something similar to Mira and film your progress. 👏❤️💜🩷I wish you the very best. Just keep in mind that Mira had a lot of experience with TH-cam as she had a scrapbooking Channel before her current one, so her editing skills were already very good. If this is your first channel ever, it probably will take a while to build up those skills and to learn TH-cam, but I love that you are doing it and, even if it never gets big, I think it keeps you accountable to keep up with the decluttering. So awesome!!
Love the respect of others shown in this. You are doing great work ❤
🙏
Jane is lovely. What a difference after the organizing
I'd love to have an attic like that. She could put that room to good use. And it's really pretty darn clean!
As a young woman I lived in a space like that attic. It was very cosy, and I cried when I had to move to another town. I also had a little door under the roof where I stored big items like hiking stuff, boots, beverage crates and so on. My landlord's little granddaughter loved to hide in there (together with their German Shepherd), playing "pirate in a cove".
Jane could make a guest room or AirBnB in that attic, or a private library with home cinema, or a private museum with display and information texts.
I always get PTSD symptoms if I see basements cramped like that. Where I live we don't store valued items in the basement because river Rhine gives us flooding every year, and with climate change it gets even worse. In northern Germany there had been severe floods in December/January, now there are floods in southern Germany with a broken dam and a drowned firefighter, some people missing. From the flood in Ahrtal and Belgium 2021 with about 200 fatalities the communities haven't recovered yet. We only store things in the basement if we aren't sorry to loose them.
Bonnie you both did a great job in clearing the space she needed.
💕💕💕💕
Mid-west magic cleaning sent me. Cheers.
Welcome!😊
Hi, I would like to do that. I've cleaned houses also but not that extent of cleaning. 🎉 nice job!
That's really interesting about that extra vertebrae! It's fun when we learn things about ourselves are unique but have been normal to us the whole time. I learned about a month before my 40th birthday that the rest of you can't hear your own eyeballs moving. I thought everyone could but it never came up.
Whaaat?! You can hear your eyeballs moving?😮 That's fun and interesting!
Hej BEAUTIFUL ! You are so very awesome. I was 'directed' to your videos by "Midwest...." . 🍀
Thank you. ❤️ I'm really glad you're here! 🙏😊
I thought I was the only one who collected boxes? But her collection is much larger than mine. At least she is a very organized hoarder, with a very sweet disposition. She knows what she has, for the most part and seems to enjoy going through her things. I hope her family appreciates all the genealogy she has amassed? Nice job in helping her out.
OMG I want to adopt her as my Aunt too! Looking at her list, it looks like she used a different handwritten "font" for each item. So cute! Can you help her by taking loads to a donation center as she sorts through, or has she already arranged that? That would make a nice follow-up video. 😊
I also have the extra vertebrae. I fell in my garage and snapped my tailbone off and it hasn't healed up in line correctly, so that's how I found out about the extra. I've heard that about 10% of people have it and most don't even know it. I've always had lower back pain too. I thought it was just because I'm busty! 😂
OMG, yes, the different "fonts" thing is so funny! I wish I could show you the texts she sends. They are w.r.i.t.t.e.n. kind of LIKE *this*. And I was afraid she was not going to be a texter because of her age, but she can definitely text and it's always a hoot to read them!
I also either broke or severely bruised my tailbone when I was about 13 when I hit it hard on the corner of a coffee table (never got an x-ray because we were very poor and never went to the doctor unless it was life-threatening), but I think that is what started to set off all my other back pain. I've heard that a lot of people likely have the extra vertebrae as well, but don't know it. My back pain is definitely not because I'm busty! I had to pay for the "girls" that I do have...LOL!
Sent over by Midwest cleaning ❤ enjoying your work already!
Oh, thank you! Mack is the best!! I'm glad you're here!🫶
😊 Happy Sunday 🌷 Thank you for the advice and what you do, this motivates me to do it in small spaces, since I don't want to get too old and have less strength to organize and since I can't currently pay for extra help I have to do it By myself. Years ago, my mother, 79 years old, began to classify and eliminate papers by herself, in her own time and because there are valuable items for her that she wants to keep and because she said she wants to leave the craft room tidy with the items for me. Best regards from Costa Rica 🇨🇷
This was fun Bonnie, enjoy your camping trip. I can’t wait for Mira’s patio cleanup. ❤
You are the kindest person!!!
Thankfully we don't have large spiders here in Iceland! I was in Spain once and we had a cockroach the size of a mouse and it was TERRIFYING to me, and I'm usually the one who goes calmly to go capture or get rid of insects here at home, it's just something about large fast critters that is scary. And yes, Jane is adorable! I hope she's doing good now
Thank goodness I have never had to deal with cockroaches. There were a few where I lived in Indianapolis for a summer, but I've never seen one hear in Utah. I know they exist here, but I've been fortunate enough never to have had them. Those would freak me out. They just seem so disgusting. And having one the size of a mouse...no thank you. 😬
I wish Jane lived near me and was looking to adopt a granddaughter.
(And the way you immediately started itching when the spider appeared was very relatable. Same, girlfriend.)
I just love Mrs Jane, you and her niece. Yall worked so well together. ❤
My husband has a phobia about spiders. We live in south east Alabama, and have a dog door. We have Mr. Gene, who sprays our house and yard for bugs. No roaches in the house, no fleas/ticks in the yard and the grand children can play in the sand/dirt.
At any rate, I go into crisis management mode by using a kleenex to pick up the deceased huge wood spiders, that come in from the rain. I'm allergic to roaches (asthma)and fleas (rashes) so he also takes care of the copper heads that occasionally show up.
We're good together. 😊
Sounds like a match made in heaven.😁❤️
Yay for a Sunday upload!
Can you imagine how excited she would be over Apple item boxes? The IPhone, IPad, etc boxes have little to no use, but they are so nice and hard to part with.
OMG, aren't those the best boxes?! They are my favorite for "junk" drawers or other drawers to contain items.
Jane is so sweet
Great job as usual Bonnie and also can check if Aunt Jane has an "opening"? I would love to be her niece. LOL! 😄 She's what I aspire to be for my niece's and nephews.
I think Jane always has openings. She seems to adopt you as family the second you meet her, so I'll have to let her know there are several more people waiting to be adopted.😄
Did you say Jane is 80?!!! She looks AMAZING!!! Great job!!!
I think 82, but I might be off by a couple years. She looks great, regardless.
What a gorgeous lady Jane is! That situation could have been tense and stressful for all of you but you guys put a positive spin on it and uplifted each other. I'm just wondering about my own vertebrae as I need to do the exact thing that you do to put your back back in line. I've never seen anyone else do that like I do! I keep putting off going to a doctor.....it's not that I'm in a lot of pain, my back just gets kind of stuck. I'm like one of those camping chairs that you have to fold completely before you can open them up 😅.....sooo looking forward to the video of Mira's patio! Enjoy your camping trip xx
