  • LeBron James is a tremendous athlete, obviously, and he uses some of his gifts to be one of the most versatile defenders in today's NBA. This video is meant to highlight some of the little things he does, such as using phenomenal footwork to put his body in the way at the correct angles to contain opposing players. His strength and quickness are showcased, along with his active hands, which made him one of the best "cover for teammates' mistakes" guys and a defensive player of the year runner-up.
    I also made a video showcasing his athleticism a while back where he would let guys blow by him so he could time up blocks (and chase downs fall under this also), so here's that: • LeBron James - Swat (C...

    The difference between lbj and mj's defense is that LeBron is more physically imposing where as mj was like a cat, stealing the ball outta nowhere with great hand eye and LeBron is like a brick wall, just can't get past him and is the best chasedown blocker ever. Both great defenders.

      Comments like this make me fucking cringe. LeBron defense ratings always ranks near the last of all players in the NBA because he doesn’t play defense until the play offs. Don’t believe me look it up. Yes the man could effectively guard all 5 positions when he tries but he doesn’t. That’s why he will never be on any all defense teams awards not even close to DPOY.

    I feel the first The San Antonioni series put lebron's defensive capabilities on display, he would go from guarding and smart, strong, skilled, and big post player in Duncan to guarding a lightning quick, shifty, smart and talented pg in tony Parker to guarding a incredibly athletic combo of the two in khawi. Regardless of how you feel about him or how you feel he ranks among other greats no player not even the big "O" epitomizes a true all-around basketball player like Lebron James. Only thing Giannis is better at is rim protection, that’s it, he is also more efficient but that doesn’t necessarily translate in the playoffs against the best defenses like we have seeen against the Celtics, he averaged 30+ but on like 40% FG, but with Lebron it didn’t matter what type of defense you had, that’s why he has the record for highest PER in playoffs history in 2009, he averaged 38-8-8 against a prime Dwight Howard (3x consecutive DPOY).

    Watching this brings back a lot of memories, people tend to forgot how great this team was on D especially Lebron. Any team who faced the Heat back then was scared shitless when they saw Bron, Wade, Mario, Cole roaming the perimeter. A soft pass and the ball would be in the hoop on the other end basically in 5 seconds. Lebron from 09 to 13 was one of the best defenders I have ever witnessed, strong, agile, smart, can lock down any one and I mean anyone from the 1 to the 5.

    I do not understand why people think LeBron is a shit defender. LeBron is fucking amazing at defense. Sure his defense with the Cavs during 17-18' season was his worst, but u have to score to win games and he was trying to save up his energy to run offense. People dont appreciate his defense enough.

    1: Okay, your matchup tonight is a big dude.
    2: How Big?
    1: 6'9 260 pounds big. All muscle.
    2: Pretty big. Seen bigger. Gotta be slow, right? Low to the ground?
    1: Nah. Faster than your PG, and I have literally seen his chest level with the rim on multiple occasions.
    2: Sheesh. That's big and athletic. Gotta outsmart him, then.
    1: Nope. Basketball IQ is as high as Magic Johnson's. Sees three moves ahead.
    2: Wtf. Force him outside?
    1: You could. It worked before. But then he got stampeded in Dallas and came back with 3-level shooting and post scoring plus new footwork in like his 11th year.
    2: C'mon. This is your NBA 2K MyPlayer, right? haha (nervously)
    1: Haha (even more nervously). No. His skill is so varied that it is literally impossible to create a MyPlayer as good as his prime versions.
    2: He's unbeatable then?
    1: No one is unbeatable. He has one weakness: at his core, he is a nice guy. If he was a narcissistic killer like The Great Mamba or His Airness, he would have been unbeatable. He has succumbed, but only to those who are capable of being mentioned among these we speak of now. He led a band of rebels from his home to a place of glory they should have never seen; his feats of heroism in Motor City still etched in the minds of their faithful to this day. He was 21 then, unready, propelled by abilities he had not master. Years later, the greatest foreign-born player ever+the reigning DPOY+the culmination of all expectation made him vulnerable. That was the last time I had seen him vulnerable, 12 years ago. Then he was bested greatest coach ever+the greatest PF+a genetically engineered cyborg with impossible hands who would later form his own legend+2 of the greatest foreign-born players. Or the greatest shooter ever+the 2nd greatest shooter ever+another person who appears genetically engineered to defend against his attacks--and add the best scorer of that generation later for extra mountainous challenge. But don't worry; he's old now. All you'll need is the most skilled big man ever to beat him.

    Could you imagine the defence if he was allowed to hand check OMG, he would've won 2-3 DPOY's awards.

    • @CHRISISIIS
      @CHRISISIIS 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I consider LeBron one of the best defensive players in the league, he just cant commit a lot of energy to that side of the ball because his team relies so heavily on his offence. If LeBron decided to devote all his energy on the defensive end for a whole season he would win the DPOY right now.

    • @CHRISISIIS
      @CHRISISIIS 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ill give you Kawhi and MJ but barely Kobe isnt in the same universe as LeBron in terms of defence. Kobe has had 11 seasons with 100 or more steals, LeBron already has 13 and has played 6 fewer seasons. To finish, the amount of times Kobe has had 50 or more blocks in a season is 4 whereas LeBron is currently at 10 season. The simple fact that LeBron can easily guard 1-4 which not many players in the history of the game could do, whereas Kobe can only guard 2-3's maybe. On top of that an argument against MJ is that back when Handchecking was allowed you could play up so much more because handchecking allowed you to hold them back and players couldnt blow by so easily because of the hands, nowadays playing up means defenders would open themselves up to being blown by so players tend to back off which means steals are considerably harder to get.

    • @CHRISISIIS
      @CHRISISIIS 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      How could you possibly null and void the hand checking with one sentence, clearly you never watched Michael Jordan because if you did you would know MJ loved to play up and loved to get his hands right up to you, as soon as you made a mistake or took a dribble he would immediately read it and steal it, in the modern NBA that would not fly, playing up on a man would be stupid because it would open you up to being blown by, especially seeing as you cant hold them in place anymore.
      So i ask you this question, if hand checking meant nothing, then why is it that Kawhi Leonards highest single season steals total is 148 whereas Michael Jordans highest ever was 259, so your telling me that Kawhi Leonard with all his ability is still 100 steals short of MJ's Total, clearly hand checking inflated those stats because it was considerably easier to steal the ball back then, if you need more examples here they are:
      Clyde Drexler's: 204 single season steals
      Larry Bird:166 single season steals
      Kevin Mchale:192 single season steals
      Clearly Hand checking boosted the steals stats for a lot of the 80-90's players because the players above are considerably worst defenders than Kawhi and all have higher single season steals totals. And not to mention Kawhi Leonard won the DPOY award with only 148 steals.
      Now for your Kobe argument even if we took 14 seasons that Kobe did play as you say he had a total of 1491 steals, that is still 300 off LeBron's current total of 1726, And on top of that LeBron has almost 250 more blocks than Kobe in those 14 PRIME YEARS, so your Kobe argument is "NULL AND VOID". The eye test you can clearly see Kobe can defend but anyone on the planet who knows basketball knows that LeBron is more capable simply because he is more athletic has the ability to guard multiple positions and is a better team leader who lifts the total level of defence when he is on the floor.

    • @CHRISISIIS
      @CHRISISIIS 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Clearly your not getting the point, I'm saying that even the average defender with hand checking could get a huge amount of steals, Chris Paul and Allen Iverson were great defenders who were tough and had a nose for the ball, but players like Larry Bird and Kevin Mchale who were not great defenders benefited from hand checking. And clearly you haven't seen LeBron play before, just watch him off ball maybe and see what he does, he knows when to help, when to double, who shifts when players get beaten, has a very loud voice which he uses continuously on defence to ensure the defensive structure is set. If you don't think that has an impact on defence then you "need to go back to basketball 101".

    • @CHRISISIIS
      @CHRISISIIS 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      All those things you mentioned are things LeBron does or do you need to rewatch this video again or the 100 other videos showing off his defensive abilities. To add to that LeBron has the statistics to put him up there as one of the best defenders in the league. Or do i need to refresh your memory about the recent NBA finals where he made Steph Curry scared every time he drove the lane, the astonishing thing is he isnt even a center.

      Lol. People actually forget though, his last Miami season (2014) he had regressed significantly defensively, presumably to wear and tear and the fact that he was required to do everything for the Heat team, he was their best scorer, facilitator, defender, and rebounder, and they played a trapping defense. Ive never seen anybody have that much responsibility on an NBA court at any sort of winning level, even Jordan. Oscar maybe did, but ive never seen any game tapes of him in the early 60's.
