Seeing the old guy's face light up like a child when the powder goes off, I can tell both why he does what he does and that his job has never gotten old for him.
Red hot chilis? Did this guy learn his recipe from Pinkman?
It's all lab grade chemicals, just to make those reagents from natural sources would be an epic journey, even something as simple as the charcoal for the gunpowder has a particular method to be made from particular types of wood if you want the best effect.
Even using modern chemicals, the most likely outcome would be a powder that burns fast but does not burns in a flash and this is what is needed for firearms.

@@costinhomescu2010it’s not the type of wood that is the issue but mainly the type of grain the powder is in, rifle and pistol ammo have different grain types which are hard to manufacture in less than industrial practices
It would have been nice in the video if they could show us some clips of him foraging for the actual supplies to make this I mean knowing how something made it's just not enough you need to know where to get it like for instance where the hell did he get the sulfur..
I could think a few places to get the charcoal and probably the potassium those would be a lot easier to get but I'm like how or where would you get the sulfur
Probably near a volcano rocks or something

It's not too uncommon for gunpowder to be made without sulfur, and soil loaded with nitrates isn't too hard to find depending on the lifestyle. If you search "traditional gunpowder making" you'll find videos where they show how they get nitrates out of soil.

How do you synthesize potassium nitrate? How do synthesize sulfur when the closest volcano is 2000 miles away? These videos are such a waste of time for anyone actually trying to learn something
I think you can make the potassium nitrate by peeing on the concoction and then letting it dry

Yeah i was disappointed as well that they used already synthesized components. But in our modern time its just such a hard process filtering salpeter or potassium nitrate from urine like u need gallons of it and months theris reallyno appeal to work with piss more than you have to. In ancient times no normal person would have gunpowder so it’s really not a survival tool
