  • My friend Alex needs to run power to his garage he is building for his microgreens business. We were lucky in that the soil was sandy, so we use used a conduit connection with some slots hacksawed into it for our drill bit. The shop vacuum worked great to suck the dirt out as we went. In more compacted soil, a pressure washer hose down the middle of the conduit would help break up the ground as you go.
It was a fun projects, and a satisfying one as quotes for this job ran from $3000 to $7000, and we were not sure our plan would work. I know this won't work in all soil types, but I hope this helps someone out who has a similar project in mind.
If you would like to subscribe to my friend Alex's channel, it is called "The Microgreen Jungle". It is about starting a microgreens business, but he will be posting some videos about his garage build process and I'm sure some other interesting DIY type content occasionally.

    10/10 Bravo Sir.
Step 1: Lobby to have building codes amended so it's mandatory to build houses on sand.
Step 2: Short residential utility boring company stock
    Step 3: This video
    Step 4: Double profit

Ok, outside your usual subject matter but thoroughly enjoyable. I am guessing the problem arose, in depth discussion and planning was completed under the influence/with the assistance of copious amounts of thought enhancing alcohol and a plan was devised. Now with all possible contingent problems avoided and overcome, congratulations on your success. I think this calls for holiday drinks in celebration. Well done!

Well, no where near bedrock but I don't see any reason that sand couldn't have been put through a sluice. I think the largest gold producers in Alberta every year are the gravel pits that wash their gravel and do a cleanout after washing. I read something about that on the Provincial website about how much gold you have to collect before you have to pay a royalty to the Province and gravel producers end up generating at least enough gold that they have to pay a royalty on it. I could be wrong.

Why not use a core bit

A core bit would have worked great for getting through the first layer of concrete if I had one handy!
