i have never forged a pipe hawk from an actual pipe, i always used a square bar or round bar. I need to get some pipe and try this method. THank you very very much for sharing. Basically all i forge is pipe hawks. I am obsessed lol
@@metalmanproductions9267 yeah i have watched that one about a dozen times. I am a glutton for punishment, so i have been starting with mostly round bar, with this method from Jay CLose from NESM th-cam.com/video/Rsc2T0WhWcw/w-d-xo.html
@@metalmanproductions9267 the best way is to find a straight piece of ash wood with a hollow pith. THeres a few kinds of wood with hollow piths. Its not a surefire method because sometimes the piths are not straight either and will get the bit to go out of the side. Its a pain in the neck any way you slice it
I eventually learned to use a standard hammer eye, Then use a lathe to drill the the handle... Prior to that, I used a table saw and made matching slots for a glue together handle
LOVE your hammer control opening up the bowl... well done
Thanks 👍

drilling a straight hole all the way through those tomahawk handles is pure insanity and frustration
I ruined two handles before I decided to use a 4x4 LOL

Love your take on it... I used a prybar
Hey Lawren
That turned out great. What size type tongs were you using in the beginning to hold the pipe?
Those jaws on those tong are used to hold square stock, those will hold 3/4 to 1 inch square stock. They work good for round stock too

I ruined two handles today trying to drill all the wat through, brainstorming another way
@@metalmanproductions9267tape a metal rod to the side of the wood tgis will at least give you a guide for your drilling angle
@@metalmanproductions9267harbor freight has the long drill bits thats the ones i use. The 24 inch i staller bits
You are right, I like the one that runs down the handle and not across the handles……
Thanks MOM
Thank you
