They use more fuel...but carbs work....im just barely old enough to have driven carbed vehicles all over the US and carb never left me stranded.. Injection has
John Hull Have some fun with an old carbed car. Rev out a gear and shut the key off, pump the gas like 20 times and turn the key on. The noise is glorious. Back in the day we used to have a lot of fun with that. Best one was in a buddy’s truck, as he turned the key back on and got a Big Bang the next thing we felt was a bump as we ran over the exhaust system 🤣🤣
This is awesome, can't wait to see the finished product! We just bought a '70 Winnebago with a 318 that I'd like to eventually swap an LS in to for more power. Looks like a lot of work but not impossible!
Awesome!! Thanks for the update! It looked like it was actually missing, like a bad ignition coil. I would think the computer would use a limp-mode tune if the mass air wasn't there but in my opinion I think it's a bad COP (coil over plug)
I wonder if you gave some thought to an engine oil cooler as well as the larger capacity for the transmission .. Something to think about. I'd supply that turbo with cool filtered oil if it was me.
Ahh yes the pump plate looked like it hung pretty low but it was tough to tell from those angles. If it gets hit it will tear that tank and make a real mess. Tank it the last thing you want to be your lowest point to the ground.
This is awesome! Order a new water pump though because that one will be toast, only takes a minute or so to burn them up with no coolant in the system. You probably know that already though. Great video! Can't wait to see more.
You can run longer than you'd expect with no water in a motor. People freak out about this for no reason. The block alone is a 400lb cast heat sink that's going to take a while to warm up.
The water pump is metal fins not a piece of rubber or silicone like a jet ski or a stationary pump basically if it's not self priming it's probably ok to Run without water
The harness he got was designed to run a MAF, because initially we weren't going to turbo it until people on TH-cam started talking shit. You can run them with or without a MAF. The year electronics he was planning on using though used an air temp sensor that was built into the MAF.
I would have gotten rid of all that old gas, steel motorhome gas tanks are nototious rusty because they sit so much and sweat i would have had the tank sealed or tossed both of them and got an alum one or a plastic one from a GM van or truck or whatever would fit, or get a custom one built, mabey even look around in a salvage place for big rigs comercial trucks, shouldnt you have two turbos? seems like all that exhaust from the left bank would fight the right side and all that exhaust comming out that small pipe would generate more heat and cut down on power or does it create a scavenging effect?
Most people run this same exhaust setup and have no power issues. 1000hp+. Also we thought we drained the tanks, we blundered by not draining the auxiliary tank and then connecting them. I was thinking of throwing a suburban tank in, but as much as that would have saved by having the EFI goodies already in it, would have been offset by having to make a filler neck, the fuel gauge not working, etc, so we just modified the stock tank system to work.
WeberBuilt Weber Haha that would be a hoot. 52hp in a vanagon was horrible with 0-60 times over 30 seconds or almost impossible. I wonder if it would be able to outrun a moped.
Fuel Injection Sucks how do you know it's 450hp and 550 foot pounds? My boss has a 2015 Chevy 3500 with a 6.0 and I have a 1999 Chevy 3500 dually with a 454 with less hp and tourqe than his 6.0 and I can out pull him any day of the week. The guy I purchased it from had a vortec Max and he said the 454 would out pull that to. Why is that? Big block tourqe
Fuel Injection Sucks you can't get big block tourqe out of a small block. But you just can't figure that out for some reason and why all the work in this old shit box rv? Wasting your time to prove what? That your junk rv will be a turd
"Can't tune that out." 😂
Pumping the pedal on a fi engine lmao. Some habits die hard ;)
Tater79bj Yup, I’m guilty of this with my 73 390 Ford and newly installed Holley Sniper efi.
I have better luck with carbs as much as I hate on them lol
They use more fuel...but carbs work....im just barely old enough to have driven carbed vehicles all over the US and carb never left me stranded.. Injection has
Keeps your foot exercised 😬

This is cool af. I drive a truck and it would make my day to see this thing come around me hammer down at around 85 plus mph.
i want to drive it while a roast beef is in the oven
Cool to see it running. You gotta run an IAT sensor, don't just put a resistor on lol. It's easy and they're cheap
shawnmeyer44 we know the iat is cheap. There is more of a reason to use a resistor than you think lol.
Heads up you can level out IAT in the tune no resistor needed
I don't know anything about it, I couldn't find the screw to turn.
I know the feeling man, hell I got stumped by my '94 Sentra (I hate that turd of a car) not starting, all it was was loose starter bolts.
oof, been there.
lol Sloppy watches this as well.
Plays a large roll in a SD fueling strategy though. I think the better route would be to just add the sensor.

Awesome project.
Those engine mounts are sketchy lol
A update of this beautiful motor home this is why I subscribed
I love this thing lmfao. sweet build, can't wait to see when its done.
Is there an update to this? Enquiring minds.....
I can't wait to see this thing on the dyno :)
Nice work ! Listen to SLOPPY !!!!!
"Hold it til rods come out" awesome.
I wonder if you gave some thought to an engine oil cooler as well as the larger capacity for the transmission .. Something to think about. I'd supply that turbo with cool filtered oil if it was me.
That sounds great, even though it’s not 100% yet!
Can’t wait for your next video!
The fuel lines and pump look a little exposed. Are you going to put some type of skid plate protection on it
Ahh yes the pump plate looked like it hung pretty low but it was tough to tell from those angles. If it gets hit it will tear that tank and make a real mess. Tank it the last thing you want to be your lowest point to the ground.
Sub best engine ever built always wanted a motor home would daily it
Looking forward to Part 5!!!

rugrataudio I've done this a million times? I'm pretty sure the water pump bearing is a sealed bearing.
obrienracing1 it's a sealed bearing alright but the seal will most likely leak
Sounds great
Man, those fuel components are close to that exhaust!
They're like a foot away.
Haha, will that thing fit on Matts dyno?
That would be a sight to see. 😂
I think Matt had a motor home on that dyno at a dyno day years back. Might have been the same motor home for all I know.
No that was an 80s 454 one. Video is on my channel somewhere
Is it okay to run it that long without coolant lining the water pump? Just asking.
It has something in it judging by the vapor coming off the top rad hose elbow. Should be fine for a few minutes at idle.
You can run longer than you'd expect with no water in a motor. People freak out about this for no reason. The block alone is a 400lb cast heat sink that's going to take a while to warm up.
It is oil cooled.
The water pump is metal fins not a piece of rubber or silicone like a jet ski or a stationary pump basically if it's not self priming it's probably ok to Run without water
The mechanical seal in the water pump won't tolerate running dry, it will leak eventually .
Cant tune that out 😂😂😂😂😂
Kept saying to myself...
"Make sure it's in Park, make sure it's in Park"
From one who has seen too many "D" starts.
Love this but 2 things. Really plumbing that tank in without flushing was a n00b move and I cringed when I saw how long you ran it without cooling.
Fuel lines/system seems a little too close to the exhaust
awesome, keep at it!
Im ur 20000 subb also a rv tech gd work
4:40 forbidden orange juice
Good news!
do the ls motors need a sensor in the intake? like a mass airflow or a intake air temp sensor? (my saturn has both)
Russell Bluewolf pretty sure they can use manifold pressure and air temp or speed density (or both) depending on the year and vehicle.
The harness he got was designed to run a MAF, because initially we weren't going to turbo it until people on TH-cam started talking shit. You can run them with or without a MAF. The year electronics he was planning on using though used an air temp sensor that was built into the MAF.
Are you doing a full resto mod or just throwing the engine in it?
Doing a few other things, not full blown redo
No mass air sensor, they wonder why its limping?
It's been switched to speed density, doesn't use a MAF anymore.
@@FuelInjectionSucks I commented before the video was over and you said that. I loved the build! I love those old bread boxes. Rock on!
What cam you running in that 6.0? Thx!!
Stock
I would change the oil if a lot of fuel went in too
guess this vehicle will now suck, it has fuel injsection
And it's got a turbo, so it blows too.
Yeah who likes there shit to start when it’s raining, right?

Flooded thermoquad lol
no supercharger?????????
Turbocharger.
why turbo charger over supercharger?????????????
That things a wiring mess....do yourself a favor...put a weekend aside just for wiring...you'll be glad you did when you take a weekend trip
No MAF sensor?
BROWNWRENCH BROWN 3 bar map sensor. Maf in the trash
still sounds like a dodge cranking
You mean when it just cranks and doesn't start? Yup, sounds exactly like a Chrysler product.
Whoa
Shoulda put a rabbit diesel in it
WeberBuilt Weber
Haha that would be a hoot.
52hp in a vanagon was horrible with 0-60 times over 30 seconds or almost impossible.

Fire hazard lol
Guess this thing sucks now
Because it has fuel injection lol
shitchyea.
WTF dis welill uplpof
This motor home is going to be a turd even with the turbo. Great engine's wrong place for it to be. They put big blocks in them for a reason
Yeah I know a 450hp 6.0 with 550ft/lbs can't hold a candle to the 200hp 400ft/lb 440 we ripped out.
Fuel Injection Sucks how do you know it's 450hp and 550 foot pounds? you guys can say what you want but this is a huge improvement over the old junk engine
Because he's dyno'd the exact same setup in his brother's truck. Same engine, same turbo, same ECU, same fuel pump, same trans.
