My teacher has been adamant about using only half an inch of bow, playing deep in the string, having a strong sound that causes the string to ring.. I’ve been having a hard time with it because I normally use way more bow and never play that deep in the string. She specifically wants the bow near the balance point only. How come you use more bow compared to my teacher and play toward the upper third? Is it preference or something else?

I'm not an expert on bowing, but I know that different sections of the bow are better for different things. Up bow is better for fast string crossings, while down bow is better for creating loud sounds and stuff
