Not underrated. It is a highly rated movie by Michael Mann (the bloke behind HEAT) with a stunning soundtrack and quality actors. Scott Glenn and McKellen were excellent!
You will never ever find music like this ever ever again! We have lost our ability to appreciate good classic music. One day our grandkids will go back and look at the movies and listen to the music we had in the 80s and wish they had it and they’ll do the darndest to copy it and re-create it
Clive Beckford it's 2 years later remade for sure. I was 14 when this movie came out . I only remember seeing this movie on HBO. And we could not get the sound track in America. Well ebay came along in the 90s and I got a record album and VHS tape . The book was really good I had a copy from my mother.
I think the atmosphere of the film is perfect the only issue was the studio interfered and it got edited heavily. Their just needs to be like a director's cut blu ray or something

It's my favourite film, favourite music, and Ian McKellen is my favourite actor. That just about says it all! Before I thought of looking it up on TH-cam, I thought it was only me who had heard of it, and was also obsessed with it! Now I feel I must be right, because so many if you have also noticed this classic movie is! I'm going to contact the T.V. channel, Talking Pictures, to ask if they can show it to a new generation, and would urge you all to do the same! I'm also going to ask Talking Pictures to have a requests facility, and also have a programme like B.B.C.'s Points Of View, so fans of vintage movies can see what impresses one another!
there are a lot of movies that is considered not top level movies, but are still really great with a cult following and this is one of them. The music score is enchanting and beautiful to me and I have it in my collection.
Every cast member of this movie went on to become super actors and hit movies in the 90s and early 2000s you have Ian McKellen Jürgen Prochnow Gabriel Byrne to name a few and don’t forget the rest I don’t know what Paramount did in the editing room or in the board room but they totally effed this movie up I’m not surprised if this would’ve happened today but I can’t see it happening the way it did in 1982 somebody must’ve really been minus some brain cells to let this wonderful movie fall through the cracks!
Having watched this movie some years earlier, I attended a friend's wedding at a Croatian church. The gate had crenellated towers....then as I walked into the church, I saw cross-shaped candle holders on the walls. I was waiting for them to glow as I walked past. It was eerie/

He has been tricked and lied to, and only the intervention of the sorcerer prevents the world falling to evil worse than the Nazis.

The soundtrack and atmosphere make it worth it. Despite its flaws, I still enjoyed the movie. There are way worse movies out there by far. I am excited for the remake though. I do think it could benefit from it since Mann's version had lots of issues.
When are they going to make the soundtrack available on iTunes. Surely enough time has past for what ever difference that had occurred in the past, has past. For the love of music please release the sound track for the public to squire, thanks you.

Best scene in the move: ethereal demon saunters into McKellen's chamber and utters "WHY ARE YOU... HERE!?" Epic!

i think the film should be either remastered or remade. .but the soundtrack must remain because that's what makes the film.

learning more about running out of money and some studio interference, stop them from making this movie they really wanted it to be is very sad.
