All Mini models since 2001 have different variants, including One (entry-level), Cooper, Cooper S (sporty), and John Cooper Works (JCW) (high-end).
The hatchback/hardtop Mini was the first model of the new generation Mini, introduced in 2001, and was back then known as simply Mini. It was available in Cooper, Cooper S and One variations at launch. In many European markets, the Mini One was powered by a 1.4-litre I4[37] version of the Tritec engine but all other petrol powered Minis used the 1.6-litre I4 version. The Cooper S and JCW models included a supercharger intake system. This generation of minis was the only production model to have one, replaced by a turbocharger from the second generation onwards.[38][39]
The names Cooper and Cooper S followed the names used for the sportier version of the classic Mini, which in turn come from the involvement of John Cooper and the Cooper Car Company. The Cooper heritage was further emphasised with the John Cooper Works (JCW) range of tuning options that are available with the Mini. John Cooper also created a one-off racing model of the Mini Cooper S named the Mini Cooper S Works. This car featured many extras which help to improve performance, such as a racing exhaust and air filter as well as uprated suspension. The car also had one-of-a-kind 17-inch (430 mm) racing wheels.[40]
The Mk I Mini One, Cooper and Cooper S used some version of the reliable, Brazilian-built Tritec engine, co-developed by Chrysler & BMW; the Mini One D used a Toyota-built 1ND-TV diesel engine. In August 2006, BMW announced that future engines would be built in the UK, making the car essentially British-built again; final assembly took place at Oxford, and the body pressings were made in nearby Swindon at BMW's Swindon Pressings Ltd subsidiary.
The last Mk I variant was the Mini Cooper S with John Cooper Works GP Kit: a light-weight, quasi-race-prepped John Cooper Works model. Hand-finished by Bertone in Italy, it was offered as a limited-production run of 2,000 cars during the 2006 model year, with 444 of those originally intended for the UK market (although ultimately, 459 were sold).
Mini (stylised as MINI)[1] is a British automotive marque founded in 1969, owned by German automotive company BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in the United Kingdom, Austria and the Netherlands. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a marque in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names.[2][3] BMW acquired the marque in 1994 when it bought Rover Group (formerly British Leyland), which owned Mini, among other brands

As an owner of a Mini Cooper R50, the R50/52/53 are pretty underrated hatchbacks imo, great cornering cars for what they are, they definitively deserve more love! This one is mental 😂
Ive been looking at mini cooper S for quite some time, but some people tell me it can be quite expensive for repairs, is that true? Im just working minimum wage xD
@@Nick-vd7cg I’ve heard the superchargers can cause all sorts of headaches if not routinely serviced, and the fuel mileage is awful around town on them+ it’s getting harder to find one that hasn’t been abused within an inch of its life.
Personally I would get yourself a normal R50 cooper, not the Mini One version, as they are fun enough for daily driving and you mentioned your on minimum wage, just make sure the clutch has been recently done as that’s one of the most costly jobs on them, do regular maintenance and keep an eye on coolant and oil levels and itl be fine!
@@Nick-vd7cgit's a car made by early bmw so if you aren't mechanically inclined it could get expensive if you end up picking up a car that's had a bad life.

If your left leg is killing you for repeated operation of a clutch pedal your probably living in central London or other large city using it in the wrong environment…ride a bike or take public transport. Cars are for the open road where they can be properly enjoyed

Makes me sad that this will be a straight line car tho as minis are probably one of the best handling cars to grace our roads. Really can't say bmw screwed up the design on these. Great proportions, quirky details, some absolute shyte bits here and there but overall cool cars, especially these 1st gen ones. They lost the plot a few gens later but I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the early ones. Can't knock him for spending a few on this platform. Sounds cool too. Been in a stock supercharged one and it felt great even at less than half the power with that tasty S whine.

What a belter of a mini, the flat-shift is definitely the best part about it, it’s crazy what you can do with the right tune. I assume the fuel cut was linked to the clutch position? You can have it cut fuel at a set rpm as well, then you can bang the next gear in without the clutch, shifts even quicker but puts a lot of stress on the syncros.

Had flat foot shifting on my old MX5 Turbo but could never get my head around doing it because I felt too much mechanical sympathy & that it wasn't going to trigger and I'd rev it to the moon. Luckily John has no such problem haha

I'm looking for ways 2 cool down a bit as these engines tend 2 b hotter than regular cars, plus I live in Panama which is hot and humid and obviously that doesn't help, I've got a R52 JCW bought it last year, been fixing it slowly as it was abandoned so basically been bringing it back 2 life

I liked my one, but it just had so many oil leaks. Literally chased them around the whole engine until I got to rear main, found out I needed to basically take the whole front end off, so sent it packing.
Taking the front end off an R53 is a five minute job!

Flat shift sounds sick. Does it mean that you can't heel toe though? I don't know how it works, I'm assuming it just kills the throttle when the clutch is fully down or something?
It's usually just a set rev limit so it doesn't over rev to the redline
Nah you can still heal and toe works of throttle input pretty sure high in rev range as above. Sure someone can give better technical explanation, it's awesome
