    person: so who are you attracted to?
    me: yes

  • @kay-sp4gk

    my definitions:
    *bisexual:* you can be attracted to any amount of genders but attraction to a gender feels different than another.
    *pansexual:* all attractions feel the same regardless of gender.

    • @georgemichael3078
      @georgemichael3078 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Hmmm, that is what living your life is
      It is about going out into the world (or the nation)
      and then deciding where you fit in. ie I like TH-cam,
      Well I like TH-cam, Vimeo and DailyMotion.
      By not making a choice, letting others know.
      It is harder, not simpler, to decide where to eat out,
      what type of pizza to order. Whether to go downtown,
      or stay in. Don't judge a book by its label,
      but if every book was simple and plain with NO LABEL...
      it would be much harder and less comfortable.

    • @TWHowl
      @TWHowl 5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      People will do anything to feel a sense of purpose and belonging, especially when they don’t have anything concrete, in the way of skills, in life. They want to DO something without ever DOING something. Really think about the level of self absorption it takes to get to the point this video poster is at. On top of it all, this allows one to exert control over those around them, by forcing them to acknowledge their own imagined perspective. Controlling society, and having power over them, is desirable to those who’ve felt rejected or lessened by it; you used to earn respect in society, now people think just being gets them points. Throw in a dash of mental illness to distort the already frail human perspective, and this is what you get.
      It’s astounding and, you’re right, it doesn’t really matter. Sex can be the ultimate expression of physical connection between two people or just two people rubbing genitals. It matters, but it doesn’t matter at all. “Pansexuals” would be better off not obsessing over their identity 24/7 and focusing on being valuable members of society.

    • @georgemichael3078
      @georgemichael3078 5 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      @@dreamwish286 Not a duplicate, more like a finer distinction like the difference between Mocha and Mexican Mocha (richer with a bit o' spice), Or regular Coke (corn syrup) and Mexican bottled Coke (cane sugar). To the casual eye it looks the same, but tastes are different.
      Bisexual considers gender in their attraction.
      Pansexual does not consider gender.
      To a simple person, gender and biological sex are duplicates. More informed people know better.

      Bisexuality is not binary, it is biSEXual, it means sex and not gender, gender is socially constructed. We have the female genitalia, the male genitalia and people who have both male and female genitalia(intersex), that means two sexes (female/male). Society calls female sex people Woman(gender) and male sex people Man (gender) but we have people who identify as non binary or gender fluid or agender and they can have a male genitalia, a female genitalia or both. And there are people who change their sex to fit the gender they identify with (transgender). So BISEXUALS ARE ATTRACTED TO ALL GENDERS, the phrase "hearts not parts" is an old bisexual phrase that pansexuals kind of stole from them lol. You can be attracted to two or more or all genders, you can have preferences or like them all equally because bisexuality is not binary, is biSEXual.
      HomoSEXual: attracted to the same sex
      HeteroSEXual: attracted to the opposite sex
      BiSEXual: attracted to both sexes
      ASEXual: not attracted to any sex
      THIS IS THE BISEXUAL MANIFESTO:
      "Bisexuality is a whole, fluid identity. Do not assume that bisexuality is binary or duogamous in nature: that we have "two" sides or that we must be involved simultaneously with both genders to be fulfilled human beings. In fact, don’t assume that there are only two genders. Do not mistake our fluidity for confusion, irresponsibility, or an inability to commit. Do not equate promiscuity, infidelity, or unsafe sexual behavior with bisexuality. Those are human traits that cross all sexual orientations. Nothing should be assumed about anyone’s sexuality, including your own.
      We are angered by those who refuse to accept our existence; our issues; our contributions; our alliances; our voice. It is time for the bisexual voice to be heard.”

It is time for the bisexual voice to be heard.”

      pansexuality and bisexuality are literally the same thing. Pansexuality is erasing bisexuality and redefining it's definitions. You are automatically biphobic if you identify as pansexual or panromantic. Labels aren't for comfort they're for identification. Bisexuals can have preferences, but they don't have to, aka bisexuals can be genderblind. If you read the bisexual manifesto you can see that bisexuality has always included all genders, even though pansexuality was made because "unlike bisexuality" pansexuality includes trans and enby people too, which is both biphobic and transphobic. I'm not the best at explaining these things, but i'd suggest you learned about the history of bisexuality and did some research before saying you're panromantic. Pansexuality is harming bisexuality

    • @hayleigh7354

      kquackers i know about the history of both and understand that both are trans inclusive. Pansexuality and bisexuality CAN be the same, as pan is a more specific version of bi, but some people, such as myself, prefer to use pan over bi. "The more you pin down and specifically detail what a label entails, the less useful the label becomes." I have a huge issue with this mindset. Isn't the whole purpose of labels to allow others to better understand what we feel? So if we cannot specifically pin point the definition, then what is the whole point of the label to begin with? To me it seems more that people are afraid that these newer sexualities won't actually hold up if their true definitions are put into question because there are already sexualities like bi that cover them. People can't just invent something and say that it is so without giving an explanation of it. Everything should have concrete definitions. We all believe in science, right? Laws (scientific theories) that hold up no matter the situation? Then why can't the same be said for the definition of sexualities?

    • @DeonAbeytaRmcad
      @DeonAbeytaRmcad 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Exactly. None of these "Bi vs Pan" videos can really give a clear answer because the fact is: there really isn't a difference except for what individuals say they are. 🙄 And why are we so afraid of a specific definition? It makes no sense.

    • @chimchim827
      @chimchim827 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with this. I identify as pansexual, but I still have a preference to people who identify as men. I got confused when I did my research on bisexuality because the whole definition has changed to liking all genders with preference...deleting what I see as pansexuality. Bisexuality to me has always been liking men and women only. Bi means 2. Bisexuals have preference between men and women, and cis gender and trans. This, of course, only counts if the person identifying as bisexual has preference. That is how I've seen it for years. Pansexuality on the other hand is liking all genders and sexualities. For an example, they are attracted to men, women, and non binary folks. But preference differs per person. If bisexuality is what it stands for today, then why was pansexuality and omni-sexuality created? Omni sexuality is liking all genders with preference making pansexuality a non existent term. This is, again, how I view this. I don't think it is fair that the bisxual term gets changed because of the pansexual community. I think the definitions should never have gotten this similar because they are just not similar in the slightest. I also think that just because you have preference doesn't mean a whole different label/sexuality has to be created. Because that is allegedly what has happened with omnisexuality according to urban dictionary. This is my opinion. I know some will see it as wrong but I have done my research and this is the idea I settle on. This isn't a hate speech towards people who Identify as omnisexual or bisexual. I just don't agree with (some parts of) the definition that is stated in this video and I will continue with the mindset I have now. Although I am willing to learn more and I am open to changing my mindset but this doesn't make sense to me and thats why I prefer to think the way I do.

    • @mosscandle
      @mosscandle 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      VXR Kieran I’d like to point out that I never said it didn’t affect you. Now, if what I’ve found is true the woman that got arrested in the UK had gotten into a Twitter argument specifically where they were discussing transgenderism. She then was arrested for not only misgendering a trans woman, but also dead-naming her. Do I think this was a proper way to treat the problem? No, I do not. From what I’ve read, the circumstances were awful, but that still doesn’t excuse her behavior. She entered the debate uneducated. Whether or not she knew not to dead-name and misgender a trans individual, I have no clue. All in all this situation could have been handled differently, and both parts were maltreated.
      As for the law in Canada. I believe you’re specifically talking about Bill C-16. This law is protects trans people from the act of hate speech. This is just like the already existing bill that is protects people from discrimination regarding: race, religion, age and/or sexual orientation. As far as I’ve understood, this doesn’t mean you can get arrested for misgendering someone. It’s specifically meant to protect people from malevolent threats. However, if your description of it is true, I personally don’t believe that it would be abused by trans people who happened to be misgendered. If people are genuinely trying to do their best, and if handled maturely it simply won’t happen. The person that’s been misgendered can correct the other person, and they’ll remember that. Simple. It’s the act of bullying and purposely misgendering someone that’s hurtful.
      Now, the reason the act of misgendering someone is so hurtful, and should be dealt better with is because gender dysphoria is a real thing. Whether it is social or bodily. Gender dysphoria is described as the emotional distress experienced when a persons gender identity doesn’t match the gender they’ve been assigned at birth. Gender dysphoria has psychological causes, and some twin studies even shows it might even have biological causes, that meaning it’s not really a choice. There is also a reason the suicide rate of trans youth is so high (estimated at 40%). It’s because they don’t feel accepted by society, and left out. Not only that, but trans individuals have a greater chance of experiencing depression and anxiety. I’m not saying that to scare you in any way, but it’s a genuine issue that needs to be dealt with. If trans people are still being put down by other people, there’s still an issue. Trans people merely wish to be able to live their true self, and what’s so wrong with that? Being more accepting as a society and as people can save lives. It can create a more open environment for people, making them feel more included. Now, finally, you’re not “bowing down” to trans people, by accepting them. You’re simply respecting them as human beings. It doesn’t have to be a fight “us” v/s “them”. In the end we’re all humans. We all wish to be validated and respected.

      you are bi and here is why:

    After I started identifying as panromantic, a bisexual friend of mine told me that she had had some bad interactions with the pan community, with pan folks looking down on bi folks because pan people supposedly emphasize attraction to someone's personality and intelligence over attraction to their bodies, with the strong implication that this is a superior way to experience attraction. She felt this was particularly harmful because it plays into the stereotype of bisexual people as sex-crazed. I had never encountered that way of distinguishing between bi and pan before, and I find the idea pretty distasteful. I use pan purely because I want to be 100% clear that trans and nb folks are included within the realm of my possible attractions, because I do know that some bi folks are not inclusive there.

    Okay. I've gathered what I can from other places and this is what I came up with
    Bi:
    The sexual or romantic attraction to 2 or more genders. I interpret this as being attracted to 2 genders, all genders, or anywhere in between. Bisexuality is very fluid. You can have a preference. You also might not. This definition obviously includes trans people because binary trans people are not a separate gender.
    Pan:
    The romantic or sexual attraction to every gender. A pansexual person specifically does not have a preference when it comes to attraction. In other words, one's gender does not play a role in if their attracted to someone.
    Analogies:
    Every square is a rectangle, but not every rectangle is a square.
    Here, bisexuality is represented by the rectangle, and pansexuality is represented by the square. Every pan person COULD identify as bi, but not every bi person could identify as pan. Some might ask why there is the need for pansexuality if they could just identify as bi. The reason I've most often seen is to be specific. Bi is an extremely broad label. Some people just like to be specific as to how they identify.
    Another analogy I've seen is this:
    Let's say I say my favorite color is red. That's great and valid! I could also say my favorite color is specifically scarlet. Still valid! Another person could like strawberry red. That's still valid! All of these colors are red, but red is a very broad spectrum of colors, and some people just like to specify their specific favorite shade of red.
    I identify as pan. This is mostly because it is the first label I found that really described how I felt. I could technically go by bisexual, but I've identified as pan for so long that it would be difficult to make the switch, and I'm already out to my friends as pan, so that would make it doubly confusing.
    TLDR: All pansexual people are technically bisexual, but not all bi people are pan. The specifics matter to people.
    Thank you for reading, and please comment kindly if you disagree or think I'm wrong. I will debate with you as long as you're respectful about it!

    What I understood: Both mean basically the same, but some pople are more comfortable with the label pan over the label bi, and vice versa. As a bisexual, I think the term pan is bi erasure, but at the same time, I understand they are uncomfortable with the term bi.
    However, its important to know the origin of "pansexual" and the fact that it changed to be basically the same as "bisexual". In the past, pansexuality meant attracted to everything. And when i say everything, I mean humans, animals, plants, rocks, water, etc.
    Also, the label "pan" itself is bi erasure, as i said in the beginning. Why? Because thanks to it, I've had to explain that Bisexuality also includes all genders. Not to say how they took even more spotlight away from us and our identity.
    Some Pansexuals also use the "Hearts before parts" phrase, and
    1. That used to belong to bisexuals, pan people stole it.
    2. That insinuates bi people are only in it for sex, and not actually for a relationship.

    I think you explained this very well...There’s not much I can say because I agree with you 100% on everything you said.Its not up to anyone to judge or decide what someone’s label is or what it means to them.I have a few labels that fit me & help describe to me how I feel..the way I experience things is a bit different than others so I’m thankful to have finally found something that helps describe how I’m feeling & makes me feel not so alone since there’s others out there who feel the same way I do but I’m panromantic grey-ace demi sexual & romantic individual :) I don’t tell anyone that usually because I don’t want to disclose that info so I stick to pansexuality or say queer since that’s easier for some people to grasp and I don’t feel I have to justify and explain myself to everyone anyways.

      @mariafernandadepaula3984 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Also by the definition of pansexual it seems like by saying "Your not attracted to gender but personality or heart and soul or whatever" makes it seems like if your not pansexual then you can't love anyone for their personality, you only love them because their gender? Which confuses me because BI people like both genders but I guess if you believe theres more than 2 or 3(hermaphrodite if you want to count that as one) it makes sense.

      Why these special people ("pansexuals") want to over-complicate things to the level, that nobody wants to take them seriously.. oh.. I know! Pan has always resonated with me and how i experience attraction. Since i've always been more attracted to the character of a person rather than their looks, one of pans definitions(attraction regardless of gender) always sounded right. After learning about the split attraction model, ive come to realize that i was romantically attracted to my best friend(another guy) and it was because of the close relationship i had with him(im demisexual/demiromantic). But it has been really hard to pin down my attractions since i am so far down the asexual spectrum(towards asexual/aromantic), while being strongly attraction aesthetically primarily towards feminine presenting individuals.
    Im also glad you mentioned trans people. I had a really hard time admitting that i could be attracted to a trans woman, but once i learned about the split attraction model, i realized that my high aesthetic attraction was confusing myself. Now i could easily be attraction(at least romantically) to a trans woman, or a man, or a trans man. Since my attractions lie more in the character of the person, rather than anything physical about them.

      Bisexuals are attracted to their gender/sex and one other or more genders/sexes, and typically have a preference between these genders.
      Pansexuslity is "genderblind", they can feel attraction regardless of gender, they typically have no preference between genders. They don't care if you're agender, bigender, trans, cis, woman, man, etc.
      Some people believe bisexual is being attracted to the binary and only the binary, which can make it less confusing. Anyways, the line is thin, but it's still there. Bisexual is an umbrella term in which pansexual is under as well, it's young and has less history so I can imagine not many people recognizing and validating it but I hope if someone tells you they're pan you're not a cunt about it.

      I personally don't believe there's two genders, soo idk how to explain this to you, literally pansexuality partly (maybe mostly) happened because some people believed bisexuality was exclusive and didn't include non-binary people.
      Also i CAN say it, i just did. But i should of separated cis and trans from "gender", and i wasn't trying insinuate that if you're bi you can't like trans people, sorry.

    I’m confused, I always thought that bisexual was the attraction for men and women while pansexual was the attraction for all genders (and maybe even non binary)
    I’m attracted to men and women, don’t know If I’m also attracted to trans people, etc.. so I identify as a bisexual

      bisexual has always included trans/nb people and the attraction to 2+ genders :) pan is just a more specific bisexual

      Bisexuality is not trans or nonbinary exclusive. It's your personal preference to or not to date trans people but bisexuals can like all genders.

      Bisexual is attraction to 2 or more genders and pansexual is attraction to someone regardless of gender.

      yeah they are, look up battleaxebis on ig bc when I found that account it rly encompassed my feelings on pansexuality and helped me figure out why I was so uncomfortable with the popularization of the term

    Pansexuality is inherently biphobic. In the video the speaker even says its a “newer” label and people could use it to identify with younger peers. As a bisexual woman I don’t look at someone’s gender and think oh this person is hot because they are male or I will date them because of this. I just find them attractive because I just do. Sorry if that offends people but it’s bi erasure.

      Kivis Blet bi means 2 genders, it doesn’t have to be man or woman.

      Kivis Blet a bi person could be attracted to men and non binary people, or women and agender people. It’s not limited to man ad woman.

    bisexual - the attraction to two, some, or all genders no matter if gender is a factor or not, if you have preferences or not, etc. bisexuality has always included all genders and people attracted to others regardless of gender.
    the only requirements to being bi is if you are attracted to more than one gender AND you want to label yourself as such!
    pansexual - a much more specific term that means the attraction to all genders, usually without preferences/regardless of gender.
    i chose bi because i knew of it longer than pan, i already came out to some of my friends as bi so when i found out i was attracted to all genders, regardless of gender, i didn’t have to change my label bc of false info. plus pan mean bread in spanish so no one can make i’m attracted to bread joke hahah
