I’ve always loved this song but it has a sad new meaning now. My wife died in 2020 and when I found her, her eyes were staring up at heaven and her skin was a whiter shade of pale. I cry every time I hear it but I kind of feel like I’m in church and that brings me comfort.
Many of us have had that experience. After finding my wife, I tried so desperately to bring her back. She was the most beautiful, kind generous and gentle person I had ever met. Miss you darling, so much. Even after 15 years.😢
The perfect song my dear. Gary Brooker recorded that song in 1967 and if anything, he sounds better 40 years later. What a shame he passed away in February of 2022.. I have probably listened to this song 1000 times in my 67 year life and never get tired of it.
This is my all time favourite song. It was the last song I listened to see out 2022 and to honour the memory of the great Gary Brooker, lead singer who passed in Feb 2022😞Thank you for posting to see in 2023! 🇨🇦
Thank you for your heartfelt appreciation Puffachelli - really beautiful. I hope you and your family have a wonderful, safe, healthy and happy New Year. Also I adore Canada - I hope to live there one day...I think my intended mate lives there, somewhere 😂🤦🏽♀ 🙋🏽♀🕊🌹
Classic performance of a classic song.Procol Harum are in my opinion the best band ever,Having seen them live 8 times (5 with orchestra) I was deeply saddened to hear that Gary Brooker passed away just recently ,but the legacy of his music will live on for years to come.I for one Will never stop listening nor will I ever forget.
oui , j'ai encore écouté d'autres vidéos de P.H. , tous les jours , c'est nomal mon groupe préfféré, GARY est un génie , c'est la musique de ma vie .....
Gary Brooker was such a great singer. Loved this back in 67, still do. An iconic song. This was performed in 2006 not too long ago an incredible performance. Happy New Years to you and yrs.
One of the most beautiful recordings of one of the all time iconic gems of rock history in a perfect setting. Wish I could have been there. I have loved this song since I first heard it on my parents AM car radio in the late 60s as a preteen kid. Its simply an iconic 60s song that has always stood the test of time and crosses generations, colors and categories. I made it a point about a decade ago, a few years after this recording, to see the great GARY BROOKER and PROCOL HARUM perform this live before it was too late. Drove 6 hours just to see them live, and they did not disappoint. Of course this iconic gem was the highlight. No orchestra, just the band playing the original arrangement with the iconic Hammond B3 organ playing the gorgeous wistful Bach derived melody, and of course BROOKER'S powerful majestic pipes which seem even more suited to fit this masterpiece he wrote even more now than as a young 21 year old in 1967. Just an incredible delivery and so glad I finally got to see Gary and company play this live. Tears were welling up all around me. Thanks for your heartfelt reaction to this gem. RIP GARY.
I was 16 when this came out in 1967 and, like so many of us back then, was absolutely intrigued by this song and its possible meaning, but also simply by the song itself. When I first heard this live orchestral version I was truly stunned by its beauty. My first time seeing you react but the level of respect and appreciation you demonstrated, never interrupting the performance, was so wonderful it made me subscribe. Looking forward to your catalogue! Just so nicely done!
Now that's a reaction ! most of these reaction videos are people opening their eyes wide with dropped mouth in a very pretentious way and then have nothing more to say but i loved it . this woman is intelligent articulate and paints a picture with words to describe the indescribable .
Bless you SS, that is so uncredibly kind 🌹. Those channels you talk about have 100k and some have only created about 100 videos so YT is strange and somewhat demoralising. But thanks again, I received this at the right time. Psyche 🙏🏽 🙋🏽♀️🌹
I saw a video about American boys dying in Vietnam... with this song playing... I was crying and crying. It makes me cry every time I hear it. So beautiful!
Music at its' best can make you cry, can make you smile, can make your spirits soar or bring you to tears.. this song manages to do all of that and more in one performance. Thank you Procol Harum for one if the finest pieces of music ever written. The majesty of music...
This is beautiful emotional and sad also, Gary's voice grew as Frank S says like old vintage wine, absolutely beautiful voice, the amazing orchestra - and the amazing band - and angels sang along, to make this one of the most prestigious songs for the younger generations to understand what true genuine music is truly appreciated, no AI no PC no DJ, true genuine collaboration of genuine musicians coming together, and delivering an absolute masterpiece. I appreciate this being recorded, I was brought up listening to the released version, But in truth this version was Godly ! I think it blows everyone away, Gary Rest In Peace, You delivered a true heavenly Masterpiece
Very rare a later live or studio version sounds as good as the original. The dynamics in this version are fantastic. My whole life this song has always captured me with its melody and that organ. Painting my own personal picture of mystery with the lyrics. Having a full orchestra and especially the choir makes this phenomenal. Hats off to the soundman, the mix is spot on beautiful. Nobody can touch that today because too many computers are being used, you need real musicians, humans with souls. Poor kids today, it seems more of a visual and over rhyming for them.
Hello Bernd, what a beautiful and kind comment. I'm really touched. 🌹. This is a tough gig. Some channels make 20 videos and get 100k subs. I've made almost 1k videos and get 15k subs. But with maturity I've learned that it's not quantity but quality of those who becime your sub family and I'm real. Thank you so much for being on my side Bernd. May you prosper in 2023, it's nothing short of what you deserve. Psyche 🌹
One of the greatest songs of all time, so timeless and good! "A Whiter Shade of Pale" has become an enduring classic with more than 1000 known cover versions by other artists. In 1977 the song was named joint winner (along with the Queens "Bohemian Rhapsody" of the best British Pop single 1952 - 1977 at the Brit Awards, and Rolling Stone magazine placed it 57 on it list of The 500 greatest songs of all time. Some other great artists who has recorded the song: Bonnie Tyler, Annie Lennox, Helmut Lotti, Everly Brothers, Joe Cocker, The Congregation and Elisabeth von Trapp. The live performance of this song by Procol Harum from Denmark is magical! I look forward to more amazing reaction video 2023. Happy New Year Psyche! 🌠
Loved this song when it was released (yes I am that old) but love this version more as it has more depth due to the orchestra and choir. Gary Brooker's voice aged like a fine wine. R.I.P.
Hello Chris, thank you so much for your lovely message. I wish the same for you and more. It's been a tough old time, but we will get through it by sticking together. An abundance of blessings winging their way to you. Psyche 🙋🏽♀️🕊🙏🏽🌹 (p.s. I sent a message my Community Board so have a look!)
It had to be very difficult to proportionally balance the rock band's performance with the signature Hammond organ sound playing that so familiar melody and Gary with his powerful majestic pipes with the orchestra's touches and the beautiful choirs singing all balanced correctly so that one doesn't drown out the other. That must have taken some practice to pull off so perfectly. Just an incredible live piece of gorgeous music.
This live version of this song is better than the recorded version I've got on CD I thought that this was brilliant. His voice hasn't aged at all, great reaction good luck thank you. 🌹 🇬🇧
Happy New Year Beautiful Psyche!! Paul McCartney was once asked if there was one song he wished he had written .. it was A Whiter Shade Of Pale. It was the song playing when Paul met Linda Eastman!! 💖🎶 This song brings good memories of growing up in the 60’s & 70’s. Best music ever!! Thanks Psyche 💐💐🕊️🦋🌷⭐️
Hello beautiful Debra - I hope you've been ok. A beautiful written comment - you write so well and always an enjoyable read. Have a truly wonderful New Year Debra, and I hope it brings 'everything' that you heart desires and much much more. Psyche 🙋🏽♀🙏🏽🕊🌹x
You absolutely get it. Craftmanship and presentation can be key to an exceptional live performance of an already great song. Good for you. One of the best "Live" performances that I've ever heard, You think?
Thank you for a great reaction. Thank you also for not stopping the song, it is the first time I have watched a reaction where the song played right through, and you got to really enjoy the song in its entirety, not listen to a bit then listen to the reactor speak, and you lose the flow of the song. This is one of the greatest performances of all time. RIP Gary, you will not be forgotten Sir.
Great to see your face again Psyche, loved this one. I was 10 years old when it came out in 1967. This arrangement with the orchestra is sublime. I could see how it touched your beautiful heart, may you have many more experiences that are uplifting and gentle for your spirit over the new year. Annie Lennox also did a great version of this. Thanks for all the hard work producing these videos for us to experience, you are the amazing one. By the way, your hair looks great. Much love, Rich
It's difficult for everything to come out perfectly in a live performance... the only thing I can think of to say is the great healthy envy I feel for the lucky ones who experienced it live. happy new year A hug
Great comment - 'healthy envy' love that! Lovely to see you Angel - and a truly Happy New Year to you and your family. May 2023 be the best year ever. Keep safe, healthy but above all, happy Angel. 🙋🏽♀🙏🏽🕊🌹 p.s. thanks for always showing up x
Procol Harum was a British Rock band, with two Guitarists, a Drummer, an Organist and Gary Booker, who unfortunately passed away last year ! That Organ has been haunting us since the original in 1967 ! This outdoor concert in 2006 was an invitation from the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and Choir ! Maybe not a reaction, but you should listen to the original video from 1967 ! 🇨🇦
Thank you, thank you thank you! You are the very ONLY reactionary TH-camr, who did not one time, interrupt the song to talk over it, and tell us what you thought about it, or ask a question or make a comment… All of the others butchered the song, and missed much of the meaning, and much of the beautiful instrumentation played in a lot of the songs, but my friend you did not! Kudos to you! I just subscribed To your channel because if that’s the way you do things I will be a listener all the time to see what you think about songs because you actually listen to them and do not talk over them as these are classic tunes that should never be talked over. I am 72 years of age and I remember this song being put out. It is my favorite all-time song and will be played at my last rites .if you would, give a listen to the Bee Gees”Nobody gets too much Heaven no more”, also Disturbed’s version of Simon and Garfunkel’s hit” Sound of Silence” and Sir Tom Jones who still performs at 82 yrs. of age singing “ I’ll never fall in love again”. These are just 3 tunes, I have hundreds from the 60’s you would really enjoy….take care, Stay healthy, and God Bless!
@@psycheinc-theSLC you’re most welcome….give those tunes I mentioned a try…again, I know a plethora of songs from the 60’-70’s that you would really like…..give a listen to BJ Thomas, you’ll like what you hear….many songs to choose from him,he died on May 9,2021 but his songs are still very much listened to…..enjoy!
@@armandchargois5733 Thanks. Armand. I actually already have my own list and don't take requests as I already give a lot of time free so cannot take on any more.. But people can search for what they want as it's free for them, and I give my time for free. Hopefully if people donate to the channel then it would help me.
Happy, happy New Year, Psyche! I love this video because it was done years after it was on the charts and everything still sounds like the original recording. It does transport me back in time even though today we are walking forward into a new year. I hope that 2023 brings growth, warmth and happy moments into your life and your endeavors. Take care and be well. Peace.
Hello my dear Cnatview - still here ☺ bless you. Yes it's an amazing track and he sounded exactly the same as all those years ago when originally recorded, and the orchestra - oh my - just exquisite. Anyhow, I hope life has been kind to you and I wish you a truly magical New Year. Keep following your heart, your dreams and your goals my dear. Blessings always - Psyche 🙋🏽♀🙏🏽🕊🌹

PROCOL HAREM, "WHITER SHADE OF PALE". The classic song that I loved from the first time I heard it, I was either 10 or 11. This version was a nice tribute to Singer Gary Brooker, who recently passed away. That being said I still like the closer to the song's release date of 1967. I saw a studio I believe version, which was great, another hit for them was "CONQUISTADOR"...
I first heard this song in the late sixties. It hasn't aged a bit, it still gives me goosebumps some 50 years later. The original doesn't have the orchestra and starts out with the organ part.
Awesome! If you like this, try the Moody Blues, probably the top classical rock band of all, out of England in the 60s. 'Nights in white satin', 'Legend of a mind', and 'Question' will get you started, as they have so many!
❤ Step 1 - Orchestra prelude Step 2 - Gary Brooker and orchestra Step 3 - Gary Brooker + orchestra + band (Procol Harum) + choir “A WHITER SHADE OF PALE” was released by Procol Harum in 1967 and it was their first single ❤ RIP Gary Brooker 1945 - 2022 *PROCOL HARUM is a latin expression that means "beyond these things”, but the legend tells that was a Burmese Blue cat, that belonged to a friend of the band and that he lived until 1972. The cat’s name was actually Procul Harun, but the cat’s name was misspelled.
And all of that performed in a little green forest in a little kingdom named Denmark. It is like a fairy tale taken straight out of a book by H.C. Andersen.
This tune is of course famous for drawing on Bach's music for the melody and chord progression and yet I don't think any first time reactors have noticed - or at least mentioned -the Bach connection. Strange that.
Such a fabulous reaction to this classic! I’m sharing a link in the hopes you will react to it. The song is “The Greatest Man I Never Knew” sung by the phenomenal LeAnn Rimes. I’m not sure of the correct method to request your reaction so I thought I would ask in the comments. Thank you and I always enjoy your reactions! th-cam.com/video/LqkU9HLHMGs/w-d-xo.html
What on earth is this random word salad that appears as closed captioning at the bottom of the video here? It occasionally bears some resemblance to the song's words, but not often. I would like to turn it off if possible, but, since I didn't ask for it in the first place, I don't know how to do that. It is very distracting.
You've obviously hit the 'cc' sign at the bottom if the video. Switch it off by clucking on it so its not highlighted. Or go into your settings which looks like a 'wheel', again at the bottom right if the video and switch it off from there. Simple as that.
@@psycheinc-theSLC Thanks - you found an easier solution than I did. I managed to fix it by searching through settings. I was going to come back and fix my post, but then I couldn't find it. Thanks - I realized it wasn't your problem.

I’ve always loved this song but it has a sad new meaning now. My wife died in 2020 and when I found her, her eyes were staring up at heaven and her skin was a whiter shade of pale. I cry every time I hear it but I kind of feel like I’m in church and that brings me comfort.

This outdoor concert in 2006 was an invitation from the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and Choir ! Maybe not a reaction, but you should listen to the original video from 1967 ! 🇨🇦
I love this comment ❤
Thank you for your kind words much appreciated
Beautiful song! My youth.....

The melody is from BACH Sleepers Wake and Air On A G-String
Inspired by BACH's Air on the G-string-
Happy, happy New Year, Psyche!
Great reaction 😊

PROCOL HAREM, "WHITER SHADE OF PALE". The classic song that I loved from the first time I heard it, I was either 10 or 11. This version was a nice tribute to Singer Gary Brooker, who recently passed away. That being said I still like the closer to the song's release date of 1967. I saw a studio I believe version, which was great, another hit for them was "CONQUISTADOR"...
I first heard this song in the late sixties. It hasn't aged a bit, it still gives me goosebumps some 50 years later.
The original doesn't have the orchestra and starts out with the organ part.
I love this comment ❤️
ABSOLUTELY SUBLIME. YES.
Epic and georgeous
Awesome! If you like this, try the Moody Blues, probably the top classical rock band of all, out of England in the 60s. 'Nights in white satin', 'Legend of a mind', and 'Question' will get you started, as they have so many!
Thank you. Night's etc is already on my list as I choose all my music 🎵. Kent Clark -that's the reverse of Superman 🦸♀️ ☺️
@@psycheinc-theSLC Cool! The Moody Blues experience is one you might never come back down to Earth again from.
@@kentclark6420 yes, orgasmic for sure. Haven't heard it in over 30 years but have never seen the Moody Blues in person.
BROOKER . FISHER . REID .....magnifique.....
❤
Step 1 - Orchestra prelude
Step 2 - Gary Brooker and orchestra
Step 3 - Gary Brooker + orchestra + band (Procol Harum) + choir
“A WHITER SHADE OF PALE” was released by Procol Harum in 1967 and it was their first single
❤ RIP Gary Brooker 1945 - 2022
*PROCOL HARUM is a latin expression that means "beyond these things”, but the legend tells that was a Burmese Blue cat, that belonged to a friend of the band and that he lived until 1972. The cat’s name was actually Procul Harun, but the cat’s name was misspelled.
Gary Brooker / Born 29 May 1945
London, England
Died 19 February 2022 (aged 76)
Surrey, England . Rest in peace .

And all of that performed in a little green forest in a little kingdom named Denmark. It is like a fairy tale taken straight out of a book by H.C. Andersen.
I love this comment ❤️
The best pop/rock song ever. Based on the Strains of a J.S.Bach Cantata. Awesome!
Io amo più di tutti Billy Joel il più completo songwriter e performer ... Ma questo pezzo è questa performance supera ogni logica 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Best acid tripping song ever!
Dale........😂🤦🏽♀️
This tune is of course famous for drawing on Bach's music for the melody and chord progression and yet I don't think any first time reactors have noticed - or at least mentioned -the Bach connection. Strange that.
A song for history
Procol Harum may well be considered one of the very first true "prog-rock" bands. Bands like Yes, Genesis and Pink Floyd owe a lot to their sound.

Como que o cantor conseguiu melhorar algo que ja era excelente?!...
A very different type of love song. Watching his young girlfriend leave and her reaction.
What you did is exactly what I did.
🌹
Why do so many people thin that Procol Harum is a person?
My generation 🤔
subliminal...
Procol Harum is a band, not a “he”.
@@double00spy no problem at all double00spy - I hit it sometimes by mistake when watching content. Have a great coming week.
1/1/2023 "🔔 Happy New Year! 🔔"
Wishing all the very best that this ol' world can bring you in the New Year Psyche. With all its sham, drudgery, broken dreams and disappointments it's still a beautiful 🌎 world. Strive to be happy! 🤗❣️
(love this old school rock classic ... as you said ... "sublime"👍)
I love this comment ❤- wow Thank you so much Thomas. It's been rough - but you know, I've met some amazingly beautiful people on here, and it's all because of music and you are one. Thank you so much for being here. This is a really tough gig - but I'm hanging on in there. Thanks for your support and good wishes (just burst into tears). Anyway I hope 2023 is truly magical for you - we must keep our integrity and do what is right, and with 'wisdom' because that can never been taken away from us as long as we're good, kind people. See you again soon - until then, take good cafe Thomas. Psyche 🙋🏽♀🕊🌹🙏🏽
It´s not her first time watching or hearing this song. Just skip it.. No need for fakes.
