When I listen to those incredible giants, I always think about Bird and Clifford Brown ! I mean they could have been there if they didn't die so young, specially so foolishly for Clifford at 26 ! Respect and Love forever for all playing there, and all missing so much.

probably one of the rare occasions where Freddie Green played out of the Count Basie Orchestra... This said, epsecially in the 80s, you could put great names on the scene, without getting the magic, This is not the case here, lots of outstanding solii, must say Iam a Buddy Tate fan, but they are all inspired. Thanks for sharing this wonderful moment

Every member of this group has something special and that is they all have the same perception of time which shows in the swing which is why it sounds so great.

+Al Bourne What they have is Freddie Green (Father Time) to center their focus.

They are doing what experienced professionals do. They each speak and understand the same language, jazz.

@@ghairraigh You both miss my point " the same perception of time. " it doesn't matter who is on guitar if one person in the group is out a bit then the whole thing is fucked. You also missed the ubiquitous Ray Brown n pounding out the beat.

I would call Benny Powell one of Basie's top 3 trombone players. Nice video!

Tiny, tiny difference in the phrasing between the first motif/phrase (ends on the ii or II chord) and the second motif/phrase (ends on the i chord). Nice and cohesive section players make it happen each time. Nice job, fellas.

Probably the weakest solo I've ever heard from Dizzy Gillespie. Seems like he was struggling to get enough air into the horn at times.
