    Lugosi calling Karloff "Frankenstein" when he played Dr. Frankenstein's nameless monster, named only "The Monster" in the credits. So the mislabeling started very early.

    • @justanotherspook447
      @justanotherspook447 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it's because "Frankenstein" was shorter than saying "Frankensteins Monster". Idk I feel like that's why most people still call Frankensteins Monster, "Frankenstein".

    Oh my gosh - where did you ever find all these?? Except for the clip of Chaney demonstrating a little technique for "Hunchback", I'd never seen these! The last one with Karloff and Lugosi was especially amazing, not just because later we learned Lugosi didn't much like Karloff (or so it's been said - heck, who knows for sure now? lol).
    Anyway, THANKS for sharing!!

    There's an old story that goes like this: Bela was offered the part of "Frankenstein" before Boris Karloff. He reacted in a disgusted way to it, saying he was a world renowned actor and would NOT stoop so low as to portray "the monster" in Mary Shelley's classic. It didn't take the producers long to find the lonely Englishman Boris Karloff, who gladly accepted. Afterwards, we all know that Karloff went on to much greater things and Lugosi was left in the weeds. That may have contributed a lot to his emotional and physical decline that later we witnessed.

    • @cheezdoodle96
      @cheezdoodle96 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always thought it was the makeup that was his reason for declining, something he later regretted (and got a second chance at).

      Fun Fact-Bela Lugosi did eventually play the Monster in Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman. I guess he wasn't So Demanding about Roles at that Point.

      Sadly Lon Chaney Senior never worked with Bela Lugosi, But they both played the Same Role(more or less) when Lugosi Starred in a Remake of London After Midnight-Titled-Mark of the Vampire. What's interesting about the Chaney Movie is that it became a Lost Film, With Only Photos of Lon Chaney in Vampire Makeup Surviving. Not many have seen the Original Version, But according to some sources the Lugosi remake followed It Closely.

    Well, at least the great Barrymore did not expose his 3 piece set (Richard the III) to news reel viewing public. Which he was notorious for doing with, ah, should i say, the other sex.
