- Today we are starting our journey up north towards Jaffna. We are taking the train from Wellawate up to Aduradnapura where we will spent a night and then go further up.

From start to finish, that train journey makes your everyday casual travel life a wonderful experience. Beautiful moments of real regular life in Sri Lanka, beaches, different beautiful landscapes from region to region, beautiful green countryside were all very evident in the real face of the beautiful country.

I have seen many videos of train rides through Sri Lanka and they have made me fall I love with the country. And of course, the Sri Lankan people. Such beautiful people with rich, dark skin that I wish I had. I’m just another pasty whitey, myself.I long to visit India AND Sri Lanka. Such raw beauty would fill my eyes with awe and adoration!!❤❤❤❤❤❤

Anuradhapura is very historical of Sri Lanka's distance past going back way over 1000 year civilisation and the presence of so many ancient ruins. Yes certain things as public transport is not perfect and punctual.

Yes. It's a single track. I also used to wait on the train at Pothuhera so many occasions until the other train came along. It's been 10 years nothing has changed.

I don't think you can compare the two countries because Sri Lanka is so small. If you compare one of the states of India with Sri Lanka is more proper I think.
India is not a bad country, but when compared to Sri Lanka, the literacy of many people in that country is very low. That is the reason for this difference. North India is in a very good condition, but South India is very dirty and does not even think about its personal cleanliness. You can see it from the films produced in India. About the relationship and the transitory conditions of that country
In Anuradhapura you need to be careful with drinking water. Always drink only bottled water or purified drinking water. Unlike in other places of Sri Lanka, pipe water is not suitable for drinking in this region. Also for food, better go to a certified restaurant like Alankulama .

glad you enjoyed the journey through the Island, i think the information provided to you on the total time taken is either wrong or misunderstood, the 05:18 train you mentioned is a intercity meaning it wont stop on all stations along the path, where as the one you boarded is a regular train which will stop on all station along the path so its the 5:18 train that will be quicker, hope this helps - cheers

There is the only one Stargate in the world in Anuradhapura.
It is said Sinhalese people had come to the earth from ALNILAM solar system thousands of years ago.
It could be happen as our whole country has a very low gravity in the world.
People say that the aliens come to a place in Polonnaruwa geographical area still.
Anyway you can visit very ancient Nagadipa temple in Jaffna if you like.

The dilemma of these Sri Lankan train journey is, you are tired as hell and want to close your eyes. But at the same time, you don't want to miss a second of whats passing by.

Sri Lankan trains are always late...because of poor roads & less maintain of train engines...Sri Lankan government can't correct these problems because of economic crisis...but this railway track (Colombo to Jaffna *actually Maho to Omanthe*) will be close January to April for repair...

Do you know why Sri Lankan short eats have lots of black pepper? It's working as a natural preservative delay spoiling the food 😉 lots of street sellers use this, some time it will even not match with the food 😁

I would be a little careful with what you eat and drink on trains and in other places. I would never drink milk tea sold on train. Anything fried is fine though.
I drink and eat everything and I am fine. I have been traveling for more than half of my life, I never have problems.

Unfortunately your kids are too small to explore and understand, what was the golem ers of Srilanka 2600 years ago. These ruins are scattered all over in anuradhapura ancient city. Too much to explore unless someone really interested in history and archaeology.
I recommend you to visit JATASIRIMA BODHI TREE , AND RUWANWELISEYA STUPA BETTER VISIT AFTER 4 PM OTHERWISE ITS REALLY WARM . PLENTY OF STUPAS, MAN MADE LAKES WITH BEST IRIGATON SYSTEM S ARE THEIR FOR YOU TO EXPLORE
